Subject: Acting & Audition Technique class

Major Blowout...Spring Discount

Acting & Audition Technique I

at The Studio for Actors

This is the foundation course for learning the important building blocks to great performance.  You'll learn how to break down the script, how to analyze the character, how to play him/her, and most importantly how to mark the script to give a really great audition.  Throughout the course, you'll have two or three auditions, and you'll be given lots of information and insightful advice about how to handle the important few minutes before each audition.  This course is not just about auditioning - it's also a great acting class.

The course is taught by Anna Risley, who has had many speaking roles in SAG Feature Films along with Movies made for Network Television and Miniseries.  (Most of her films were cast and shot in NYC, some in LA, and a few in Phoenix and Tucson.)  Because of her acting experience, she knows exactly what casting directors want at an audition, and what directors hope for from a performance.

This is a six-week course (six consecutive Monday evenings) at the spring discount of $40/week (normally, $45/week).  If your schedule prevents you from attending all of the sessions, you may make up an absence by booking a private session outside of class for $65 for an hour-and-a-half session.

6 consecutive weeks
Monday nights, starting May 7, 2007
6:30-8:30pm at The Studio for Actors in Tucson

$40/week.  Call 881-2363 for details and to sign up.

Our Town

By Thornton Wilder

Directed by Art Almquist

The Pulitzer Prize-winning American classic,

onstage at Tucson’s oldest high school

Perhaps the most frequently produced play by an American playwright, Our Town at first seems to be a simple look into the lives and interactions of the citizens of an everyday town in the early 20th century.  As we get to know the residents of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire, the play reminds us that in seeing them go through the day-to-day business of their lives, we are witnessing something much deeper and more profound: the sheer beauty of life’s simple, everyday moments.   We also begin to see that, even though these characters exist in the world of 1901, we have much more in common with them than we might have initially believed.  Seen it before?  It’s time to see it again, brought to life by Tucson’s multiple award-winning high school theatre program.

“Beautiful and remarkable.  One of the sagest, warmest and most deeply human scripts to have come out of our theatre ... A spiritual experience."                                             N.Y. Post

Tucson: Pima Student Screening

From: Dave Wing [mailto:dwing@earthlink.net]

Subject: Pima Student Screening

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Pima Community College Digital Video and Film Arts Screening featuring the premier of “the Adventures of Ace Proton”

What: Pima Community College Digital Video and Film Arts Screening
Where: PCC Center for the Arts Proscenium Theatre, West Campus, 2202 West Anklam Road, Tucson
When: May 18-19, 2007, at 7 p.m.
Tickets: Free and open to the public.
Information: Box office: 520-206-6986, centerforthearts@pima.edu

Tucson, Arizona--Pima Community College digital and film arts department is excited to present the Digital Video and Film Arts Screening on May 18-19 at 7 p.m. in the Center for the Arts Proscenium Theatre. The screening will include film and video work from students in the beginning and advanced classes and the premiere screening of  “The Adventures of Ace Proton,” produced by the advanced cinematography classes this year.

According to student screenwriter Michael Doroudian, “Ace Proton is a fun little story with just enough humor to make you giggle, but not so much that it steals from the storyline by making it ridiculous. What we've captured is glimpse back through time to a point where you didn't need super special effects to believe in the universe on the screen. It was all about the writing, the acting, and the childhood imagination that everyone still has inside of them. I rediscovered my boyhood dreams in making this film, and I hope that at least some of the audience, if for only twenty minutes, will want to tie towels around there necks and teeter on the arm of the couch while flying through the galaxy on magical strings.” The film is shot in black and white and is reminiscence of the 1930s-style sci-fi serial “Flash Gordon.”

The Digital Video and Film Arts Screening is free and open to the public. The PCC Center for the Arts is located on West Campus at 2202 West Anklam Road, Tucson, (just west of downtown on St. Mary’s Road).  For information call 520-206-6986 or e-mail centerforthearts@pima.edu

Comedy Improv I

at The Studio for Actors

Comedy improv isn't half as hard as it looks when you learn it from a former Saturday Night Live cast member.  Anna Risley gives you the keys: formats, dialects, and structure.  Come play, have a ball, and enjoy discovering how funny you can be.  Also, for acting students, studying comedy improv loosens up the body, helps you think fast on your feet, introduces dialects, and sharpens your timing.

This is a four-week course (four consecutive Wednesday evenings).  However, if your schedule prevents you from attending one or two of the sessions, you pay for the classes you miss and then take the missed classes for free when the course rolls around again.  For example, if you must miss night #3, you pay for it and then take night #3 of the next course.  The course typically starts every four weeks.

4 Wednesday nights, May 2-23, 2007
6:30-8:30pm at The Studio for Actors

4 week course, $35/week.  Call Anna Risley at 881-2363 for details or to sign up.

"SISTER'S BACK AND THAT IS VERY, VERY GOOD!" DECLARE THE CRITICS ABOUT THE
LATE NITE CATECHISM SEQUEL, LATE NITE CATECHISM 2

Sometimes we feel guilty because we are guilty

The long awaited sequel to the comedy hit, Late Nite Catechism will be
presented by Arizona Theatre Company at The Hotel Arizona, 181 W. Broadway
Blvd in downtown Tucson. Sister appears May 16 - 27, 2007. Tickets are $35
($25 for ATC subscribers) and are available by calling ATC's box office at
(520) 622-2823. For group sales discounts, please call (520) 884-8210 x
8204. Student discounts also available.

The Los Angeles Times declares Late Nite Catechism 2 "funnier than the
original!" This time around Sister tackles sin and is the undisputed
conqueror! Armed with banners, filmstrips, mimeographed handouts, historical
facts and hysterical insights, she conducts her class into convulsions of
laughter. Picking up where she left off in the original, Sister begins with
an affectionate look at women's religious orders which leads to her own
'confession' about the goal of every nun - to get herself into heaven first
and then bring along as many of the faithful as possible, thereby securing
her own wings and possibly the salvation of countless others.

Now, in Late Nite Catechism 2, it's up to Sister to save the souls of those
assembled - AKA the audience! Beginning with an overview of heaven and hell
as a Catholic version of Chutes and Ladders, she is soon offering her own
suggestions for celebrities who might end up sharing digs with the devil, as
well as a list of new sins for the new millennium. (Needless to say bobble
head dolls of the holy family is right near the top).

Maripat Donovan's Late Nite Catechism 2 is 'blessed' with all the wit,
wisdom and wackiness that made the original an international hit. "Who knew
damnation could be so much fun!?!" (LA Times). Join the 'flock'; see Late
Nite Catechism 2.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Tucson, AZ)— Beowulf Alley Theatre Company will be holding a special benefit performance of John Steinbeck’s American classic play, Of Mice and Men, on Sunday, May 6, 2007, at 1:30p at the theatre, located at 11 South 6th Avenue, between Broadway and Congress. This event will include a special barbeque dinner, with the cast, immediately following the performance and includes door prizes and entertainment by local residents and international artists, Lisa Otey and Diane Van Deurzen. The proceeds of this event benefit the theatre. A portion of each ticket is tax deductible. Tickets may be purchased on-line at www.beowulfalley.org or by phone at (520) 882-0555. Ticket prices are $65.00 for the entire afternoon of entertainment.

Steinbeck received the 1938 New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Of Mice and Men and, in 1962, the Nobel Prize for Literature.

In Depression-era California, unable to maintain stable work because of Lennie’s low mental capacity, George and Lennie find work on a ranch, dreaming of one day owning a ranch of their own. Their hopes, like "the best laid schemes o' mice an' men," begin to go awry.  Soon after settling in and making friends, their world is ripped apart by tragedy.  John Steinbeck's classic tale of two friends explores the underside of the American Dream.

Glen Coffman directs Of Mice and Men. Stephen Elton is featured in the role of Lennie and Terry Erbe in the role of George. Additional members of the cast include David Alexander Johnston, Amy Erbe, Greg Sweet, Tim McKiernan, Brian Wees, Jonathan Hicks, Nate Weisband and Darwin.
