Tucson: Lighting Technician needed / 6th Annual Play-in-a-Day

-----Original Message-----
From: tucsonstage-owner@yahoogroups.com [mailto:tucsonstage-owner@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Richard Chaney
Subject: Lighting Technician needed

Old Pueblo Playwrights (OPP) seeks a Lighting
Technician for its 6th Annual Play-in-a-Day, scheduled
for Friday 5/9 & Saturday 5/10/08.

This year's Play-in-a-Day will be presented at the
Cabaret Theater at the Temple of Music & Art, 330 S.
Scott Avenue.  Friday night activities include: (1)
rehearsed staged-readings which showcase work by OPP
members and (2) random pairing of twelve playwrights
who will write overnight.  Saturday night features
staged-readings of the six short plays written
overnight.  This is an adrenalin-charged and fun
event.

The Lighting Technician needs to be available on
Friday 5/9 to set the lights at the Cabaret Theater
and then to run the lights on Friday 5/9 and Saturday
5/10.  Because of the nature of this event, lighting
design will be minimal and should require little more
than lights up & down, once the stage is competently
illuminated.

OPP is offering a stipend of $120 for the Lighting
Technician for this event.

Please contact Richard Chaney, Play-in-a-Day Chair, if
you are interested:  orlando132000@yahoo.com or

Tucson: Locations needed for short film

-----Original Message-----

Subject: Locations needed for short film

Hello!  Looking to get something for this weekend/following week, if

possible, for the following locations:

* "Courtroom"

* "Two-way mirror / Interrogation room"

* One of those glass window rooms at a police station where an inmate

can talk to his lawyer/visitors on a phone while looking at them

through a glass window.

Obviously, I'm not expecting to get the 'real world' counterparts for

these locations.  Creativity is preferred.  I'd love to hear from

anybody that thinks they know of a good lookalike for any of these.

Or if you happen to work at a county court/sheriff's office that would

be great, too!

There aren't any on-screen characters.  It's all VO.

Tucson: LTW's ETCETERA presents "Close"r By Patrick Marber

ETCETERA,
Live Theatre Workshop's
Late Night Series, Proudly Presents

Closer
By Patrick Marber

The University of Arizona’s Students on Stage is producing “Closer”, written by  Patrick Marber, as a part of Live Theatre Workshop’s Late Night Series.  “Closer”, made popular by the 2004 movie, is a disarming tale about the  complexity and ugliness of love. The play has fundamental differences to the  movie, including the ending, and has different relationship dynamics between  characters. Director Alison Klemp, a junior majoring in Theatre Arts at the  University of Arizona, says that she wants to get back to the root of the play,  the language.  Marber, made famous for his use of language as theatricality,  colors “Closer” with lines such as, “Deception is brutal” and “Ever seen a  human heart? It looks like a fist wrapped in blood.”

â€œCloser” explores society’s obsession with love and devotion. It \chronicles four  years in the lives of four ordinary people living in London. Marber discovers the hurt and depravity that comes hand in hand with love and ends the play with  a devastatingly ironic tone. Under Alison Klemp’s direction, a team of  talented students has breathed new life into this production.

Tucson: The Magic Box makes its way to Sunnyside District

From: Lisa Gernak [mailto:lgernak@gmail.com]
Sent: Tuesday, March 25, 2008 8:28 AM
Subject: Press Release: The Magic Box makes its way to Sunnyside District

• FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE • MARCH 25, 2008 •

• MEDIA CONTACT: LISA GERNAK 520.891.6841 •

THE MAGIC BOX MAKES ITS WAY TO SUNNYSIDE DISTRICT

Mission Manor Elementary is being taken over by Stories that Soar!

At 9:30 a.m. on Friday, April 4, 2008 Stories that Soar! performs at Mission Manor Elementary School located at 600 West Santa Rosa Street in Tucson.  This is Mission Manor's first year with Stories that Soar!, so the kids may not know what to expect.  The students have fed the "hungry" Magic Box™ over 600 stories and are currently waiting that day when adult performers transform their stories into an innovative, magical performance created especially for them.

This is a first not only for Mission Manor, but for the Sunnyside District as well.  The mission of Stories that Soar! is to empower children to believe in themselves by giving voice to their original words and creative ideas.  The program honors that mission by bringing these students' stories to life AND by bringing each author on stage to join the cast in the reprise of the Stories that Soar! theme song as a celebration of their contribution to the event.  Being able to accomplish this mission in another district, only further accentuates the goals of SharMoore Children's Productions, an arts-in-education nonprofit organization now in its third year of operation, which provides this program.

Although each Stories that Soar! program starts in a similar way with the Magic Box inviting children to  write about anything at all, the results vastly differ depending on the school population and the time of year the program takes place. At the Mission Manor show, prepare to be charmed by comic-style super heroes, creepy adventures through a haunted house, and sincere feelings about what the students want to be when they grow up.

Come see how the magic of Stories that Soar! brings the words of Mission Manor students to life on Friday, April 4, 2008 at Mission Manor at 9:30 a.m.  Visitors are welcome and encouraged to come see this show as long as they check in at the office.

Production Information: The School of Theatre Arts Workshop Production Series presents “Summertime” by Charles Mee.

Can people find each other in a deranged world?  Is love between two people possible in the world without rules that we live in today?  As two people meet in a balmy Martha’s Vineyard garden, they become surrounded by a tempest of friends and family whose distorted love affairs and unrestrained impulses threaten their pursuit of love.  Contains mature themes, and adult content and language.

The Workshop Production Series compliments the Arizona Repertory Theatre’s professional training programs in classical and musical theatre.  Comprised of staged readings as well as fully mounted productions, the Series often provides student directors, performers, designers and technicians with their first chance to share their passion and talent with an audience.  Open to all theatre majors in the school, the Workshop Productions are designed to allow these young artists an opportunity to participate in staging new works, finding new voices for traditional theatre pieces, and experimenting with new theatrical styles.
