Tucson: Bentwood style chairs needed for Fall production

From: Suzy (Susan) Shear [mailto:spshear@gmail.com]
Sent: Monday, June 29, 2009 4:18 PM
Subject: Re: Theatre Chairs

Does anyone know where we can find some wooden chairs, like Bentwood chairs, to borrow or rent for a production in the fall?

Our group is a community theatre called The PrimeTime Players in SaddleBrooke. We perform in our 500 seat theatre space, DesertView Performing Arts Center.

The production is a mystery that takes places in present time.

I need about 8-10 chairs onstage, wooden and preferably like a Bentwood style.  I won't need them until the fall but I just thought I'd start looking.

Thanks,

(Tucson, AZ-June 30, 2009) Beowulf Alley Theatre, 11 S 6th Avenue, 85701, downtown between Broadway and Congress, presents a reading of Dachau by Jan-Ruth Mills on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at 7:15 p.m. Readers Theatre is a project to present nearly completed plays (mostly local Tucson playwrights) by actors reading the script before the public with a dialogue to follow providing comments and feedback for the playwright.

Synopsis of Dachau -
Bavaria, Germany. July, 1947. A barrack in the former Nazi Concentration Camp Dachau now serves as courtroom for the US Military Tribunal prosecutions SS officers associated with the Gusen Concentration Camps in Austria. The council for the defense and the German civilian attorney can agree that their clients are guilty but disagree on everything from trial procedure to the legitimacy of the court itself. Despite the defendants’ unwitting confessions during their testimony, the defending attorney’s decades of experience defending murderers in the German criminal court system challenges the skills of Prosecutor, an inexperienced attorney from the States. complications arise with the presence in the court of the victims’ ghosts who are frustrated that they cannot give witness to the crimes against them in the court of the living and that their relationships to each other are complicated by their experiences at the hands of Nazi guards and by the choices they made in their failed attempts to survive. Caught between the living and the dead are an Austrian woman who still lives in the town near the Gusen camps and a Jewish woman whose two sons were murdered near the Austrian’s window. Both women find themselves transported in their dreams and daydreams to witness the trial among the ghosts. As the US court prosecutes the SS, the dead and the grieving mother conduct their own trial of the woman who witnessed their deaths but claims not to have been able to prevent them. Proceedings against the SS fail to bring the perfect justice the dead seek, the mother must accept she and her children will live with the guilt and consequences of her countrymen’s actions.

BORDERLANDS THEATER ANNOUNCES OUR 2009/2010 SEASON “WHAT’S UNDER THAT SKIRT? A BORDERLINE LOOK AT GENDER.”

What’s Under That Skirt? A Borderline Look at Gender” brings two plays that question mainstream notions of what is male or female  through moving, earnest and shamelessly funny stories and characters, and a family favorite (with a feminist twist of course) for the 14th year.

 SHE WAS MY BROTHER
by Julie Jensen

Julie Jensen, the playwright that brought us the critically acclaimed play “Dust Eaters” (2007/08 Season), is back with “the most unlikely love story every told.” What happens when two Victorian white anthropologists –Tullis, a mature woman and Wilson, a young man- encounter Lamana, a “two-spirited” religious leader of the Zuni pueblo? This moving and intense play, loosely based on historical fact, explores the borderline between love, sexual orientation and fluid gender identities.

BETWEEN PANCHO VILLA AND A NAKED WOMAN

by Sabina Berman

A witty and incisive comedy from one of Mexico’s leading playwrights. A glimpse at the primal macho hidden within the progressive intellectual and the desire to be loved smoldering within a liberated woman. “Between Pancho Villa and a Naked Woman” brandishes humor as a tool of critique and reflection on gender roles and feminist issues in contemporary Mexican society.

“Between Pancho Villa and a Naked Woman” has been produced in Mexico and the U.S. Its premiere production earned seven awards from the Mexican Critics Association in 1994, including Best New Play of the Year, and the show was eventually made into an award-winning film.

KITTY KITTY KITTY
By Noah Haidle

Kitty (Steve Wood), a suicidal brown tabby belonging to an equally depressed scientist (Jacinda Swinehart-Johnson), finally finds true love in his clone, the first successfully cloned house cat, Kitty Kitty (Jody Mullen). They give each other hand jobs, but Kitty Kitty doesn't love Kitty back. So, Kitty decides to make another clone of himself, the title character Kitty Kitty Kitty (Christopher Johnson). But something goes wrong in the cloning process, as he makes more and more copies of himself, each one more mentally challenged than the last. The final clone, Kitty Kitty Kitty Kitty Kitty (Michael Martinez), communicates in
nothing but grunts and yells and drool. KITTY KITTY KITTY is a comedy about love, unrequited love, regret and hand jobs.
