The artistic team strives to create characters and situations that rally against stereotypes and introduce new cultures and relevant life situations. Live performance and post-show discussions catalyze family and community conversations about rarely-visited subjects, fostering the empathy and creative problem solving that the Tucson community needs. When the same families repeatedly attend ATT productions, they create a family tradition in which the children grow up and attend and participate in the American theatre tradition. $7 ALL SEATS!

(Contains mature content and violence and is not suitable for children).

Described as "a play about witchcraft without any witches in it," and inspired by the 1970 women’s rights movement, this epic play by award-winning writer, Caryl Churchill, explores gender and power dynamics against the backdrop of the infamous witchcraft trials in 17th century England. This story details society’s rejection of people who march to the beat of their own drum and is a dark account of how fear and hate can lead to the death of innocent people.

Written in 1976 as a call to feminism, the play's resonance is stronger than ever. Hot on the heels of Rush Limbaugh's scathing remarks about Sandra Fluke, and the ongoing controversy about women's reproductive rights, women's issues are in the political spotlight and still being debated as ferociously as they were then.

"Vinegar Tom is a churning cauldron of well-staged drama..." - The Minneapolis Star Tribune

"...provocative theatre as well as a conscience-baring feminist document." – The New York Times

Pima Community College Theatre Arts presents Inherit the Wind, the gripping and inspiring fictional drama based on the 1925 Scopes Monkey Trial, written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee. Nancy Davis Booth directs the play that tackles the ever-present debate over the right to freely think and question. Set in a present-day small town, faith and science collide when a teacher is arrested, tried and convicted for teaching evolutionary theory to his public school students during science class. The whole town is forced to confront their long-held beliefs as a raging discourse ensues between the literal interpretation of creation found in the book of “Genesis” and the scientific theory of evolution as posited by Charles Darwin in his “Origin of Species” (1859). A question and answer discussion follows each performance.

Booth remarks, “The debate continues 80 years later and its still not settled, nor will it be. It invokes the eternal question of where do we come from and who made us? It’s important for the audience to understand that the story is not so much about science versus creationism as it is about a person’s right to think.” She adds, “I’ve updated the setting to current day and changed the gender of some of the key characters to emphasize the universality of the story.” A minimalistic set and the intimate size of the theatre gives the audience, seated on three sides of the action, a sense of direct involvement.

Synopsis below

Gracie Stanley has gotten herself in hot water by promising to deliver her distant cousin, rock star Ziggy Springer, for the high school Hippity Hop at Louise's Luncheonette.  Ziggy's manager doesn't want his client performing anywhere without pay, so Gracie and her friends have to produce a double — and fast!  They use a singing soda jerk and plan to have him perform in the dark!  It won't be easy for Gracie to get away with this one with her rival, snooty Muffin Mansfield, waiting for her to flop.  Meanwhile, Louise has her own problems.  The building's owner forbids the dance and plans to turn the eatery into a dry cleaner.  With all of this happening, Gracie's brother is living in terror because he's smashed up a Harley belonging to Sinbad Gallucci, a bad dude.  There are fun roles to play, with everything from students to beatniks.  This is a one set, easy to stage musical comedy that will have your audiences cheering.  Included in the sensational Francoeur fifties score:  "Bop-A-Lu-Bop Dance Party," "Teen Queen," "It's Tough To Be a Teenager In Love," the hilarious "It Was The Blob," and, of course, the toe-tapping title tune.

Tucson: April 2012 Discount on Comedy Improv at The Studio for Actors

From: The Studio for Actors [mailto:acting-courses@the-studio-for-actors.com]
Sent: Friday, March 23, 2012 9:22 AM
Subject: Announcement: April 2012 Discount on Comedy Improv at The Studio for Actors

Taste of Improv Class

The Studio for Actors is now offering a "Taste of Improv Class." Here's how it works. Just come on one Wednesday night from 6:30pm-8:00pm for only $30. This class is normally $40, but for the evenings of April 11 or April 25, you can attend for $30 for one class only, and see how much you love studying improv at The Studio. So, if you've always wondered (or if you've never wondered) if you would enjoy comedy improv, this is your chance to check it out.

Call (520) 881-2363 to sign up.  To qualify for the discounted price, you must say the words "Taste of Improv Class" when you call.

* Limit one $30 class per person.

Comedy Improvisation

You don't have to be a funny person to love and get a lot out of a comedy improv class. I can make you funny. Because you have to focus in this class, you can end up both taking a vacation from the stuff that goes on in your life, and there's a lot of healing with laughter. Your coach is a former Saturday Night Live cast member, and will give you the accents and the formats you can use as a "safety net." Improv is a great stress reliever and really encourages the ability to verbally communicate. So, come, play, have a ball, and enjoy releasing your own special creativity.

Also, for students of acting, improv enhances your auditions, loosens up the body, helps you think fast on your feet, introduces dialects, and sharpens your timing.4 consecutive Wednesday nights

6:30pm-8:00pm
Start on any Wednesday (but you must call first to sign up).
$40 per week
Don't worry if you have to miss one or even two of the four classes. You simply pay for the class you have to miss and then take class #5 free.  It's even possible to pay $160 at your first class, and then take your last three classes whenever you can make it. (I keep great records.)
