The Minutes

By Tracy Letts

April 25th through May 11th

on the Mainstage

This scathing Pulitzer Prize-nominated comedy unravels a web of secrets, power struggles, and dark truths lurking beneath the surface of everyday life. From the author of August: Osage County, Tracy Letts infuses this story with his signature wit delivering moments of uproarious humor as a cast of very recognizable city council members let their idiosyncrasies fly. Unable to locate the minutes from the previous meeting, or move beyond their pet projects, the city council devolves into ridiculously reenacting their town history for their newest member who is full of questions and doubts about his new role. With razor-sharp wit,unflinching honesty, and a healthy dose of comedy, The Minutes is a gripping exploration of the complexities of power and the fragility of democracy. Don't miss your chance to witness this explosive drama and side-splitting comedy that has captivated audiences and critics alike.

"Astonishing... a pitch black comedy about the current state of American politics."

 Chicago Sun-Times

"The Minutes is also quite funny, silly even…But the questions Letts poses – what are you willing to do, what are you willing to ignore, what are you willing to forget to preserve your 'cocoon of comfort'? – are provocative. And perennial." – Daily Herald

The Minutes by Tracy Lett runs April 25th through May 11th, 2025. Showings Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm, Sundays at 3:00pm. Sundays at 3:00 pm. Directed by Rhonda Hallquist and starring Dawson Woolridge, Cliff Madison, David Alexander Johnston, and more. Tickets start at $25.00. Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre CALL FOR PLAYS IN TRANSLATION 2025

Since our inception, The Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre has been thrilled to present new works of translation and adaptation with such beloved works as The Little Prince, Blood Wedding, and the winner of our last call for plays, Russian Roulette.

This season we are excited to present to our audiences the winner of our fifith annual plays-in-translation contest hosted in collaboration with the American Literary Translators Association (ALTA). We will select a winner from a diverse field of global plays translated into English. In the past selections have ranged from dark comedies to quiet character studies, on a breadth of themes including socio-political corruption, family dynamics, and medical decision-making.

CALL FOR PLAYS IN TRANSLATION 2025

https://www.scoundrelandscamp.org/plays-in-translation-2025

In association with the American Literary Translators Association for the fifth year, The Scoundrel and Scamp Theatre seeks short form plays in translation for an in-person staged reading performed by local actors during the ALTA conference in Tucson, November 5-8, 2025. The winner of the Plays in Translation Contest is awarded a prize of $100.

We are particularly interested in plays that meet the following criteria:

  • Plays translated from any other language into English;
    • We especially encourage translation of non-European plays, though plays from Europe or in European languages will be considered on equal footing with non-European plays.
  • Plays that can be performed with of six actors or fewer;
  • Plays that have a runtime of 90 minutes or less (we encourage looking up the runtime of the play in its original language to gauge this);
  • Plays that feature content that is aligned with Scoundrel and Scamp’s mission to create “immersive and imaginative experiences for a diverse, cross-generational audience that inspire empathy and encourage discourse";
  • Plays that foreground language in a manner that will work well in a staged reading (i.e., that do not heavily lean on physical theatre, scenery or props, or other non-spoken elements).
  • We encourage the submission of translated plays that will open space for discussion not only about the act of translation but also about the topics and themes of the play.
    • The play reading is followed by a talkback in which the translator(s) and playwright are invited to participate either in-person or remotely. Unfortunately, travel funding is not available.
  • No repeat submissions, please.

Submission Information

Please submit to playscripts@literarytranslators.org by May 30, 2025:

  • a translation of a complete play with the original. (Plays of 90 minutes or less are preferred!)
  • a brief query letter including confirmation of permission to translate the piece
  • short bios of both author and translator
  • a note as to whether the translator would be available to attend the performance, if their work is selected
  • Please note: if selected as the winner, the translator must secure the appropriate permission to present a one-time, non-recorded staged reading of the translated play at The Scoundrel and Scamp Theatre in Tucson, Arizona.

Please send any questions regarding this Call for Plays to playscripts@literarytranslators.org.

TRUTH by Marilyn Harris Kriegel

This is the final offering in The Invisible Theatre's Women's Voices play reading series, made possible in part through the generous support of Dr. Bella Eibensteiner, produced and directed by Fred Rodriguez and Susan Claassen

TRUTH, starring Maedell Dixon*, Susie Cookie Baker, Eric Anson, Joe L. Smith and Fred Rodriguez is a fast-paced suspenseful drama/thriller. It takes place in Paris in the first decade of the 21st century when the United States, shocked by 9/11 struggles to protect itself from further attack. It is in this context that fiction writer and former activist Maggie Leeds arrives in Paris, jet lagged and disoriented, from a long flight, to visit her son and his wife. It's entirely unclear from the shreds of her bizarre travel tale whether she is just a muddled, confused woman, a national security risk or something far darker. Andrew, her adult, expatriate son, blocks any attempts at opening the door to her confusion while his intrepid French wife, Martine, risks her marriage and her Mother-in-law's safety to discover "la verite", the truth.
