Old Pueblo Playwrights Presents 'The Last Aloha, a Hawaiian Quartet'
When the world is about to end, disasters may add up, but solutions still remain simple. Hawaiian residents thought their world was about to end after receiving an incoming ballistic missile threat alert at 8:07 am, Jan. 13, 2018, advising them to seek shelter immediately.
"This is not a drill."
Old Pueblo Playwrights presents staged-reading performances—The Last Aloha, A Hawaiian Quartet—Sunday, April 28, 2019, of four original, unproduced plays written in response to last year's false Hawaiian missile crisis.
The first, at 2 pm, One Hot Mess was written by Tucson physician, playwright and OPP board member and Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine (AMDA) member Mel Hector, MD. Former Green Valley News reporter Regina Ford—a singer, actor, and director—directs a cast that features:
- Megan Jones as Billy Comstock, a 40-something bookkeeper for an orthopedist group and caregiver for her terminally ill mother;
- Sydney Flynn as Billy's 75-year-old mother, Aileen Morrow, who has pancreatic cancer; and
- Dave Youngerman as former Marine Steve Harkness, a middle-aged mid-level manager with back, depression, and opiate issues.
David Youngerman's Wedding Vows, John Cafiero's World Enough and Time, and Gretchen Wirges' 38 to Life round out The Last Aloha lineup at Unscrewed Theater (4500 E Speedway Blvd., #39, Tucson). Performances start at 2. Admission is $7 per performance or $10 for a festival pass. Pay at the door with cash or check; no reserved seats. There will be a talkback after each play.
