We're holding Auditions!

Come audition for Winding Road's 4th Annual Eight 10s in Tucson ONLINE: a 10-Minute Play Festival

Please prepare a monologue that is approximately 1 minute long and showcases you as a performer.

THE MOST PRECIOUS THING by Amy Dellagiarino

Directed by Gretchen Wirges

Worldweary Jaqueline is forced to evaluate her life's value before time runs out.

CHARACTERS:

JAQUELINE (F, 30s): A frazzled and broken person who has given up on whatever it is she wanted her life to be.

CHARLIE (M/F/Non-Binary*, 30s): A frazzled and optimistic person who has one job and is trying really hard to be good at it. (*Pronouns will change accordingly.)

YOU HAVEN'T CHANGED A BIT by Donna Hoke

Directed by Dawn McMillan

Lottie has never been to a high school reunion; Len has been to them all. Their 70th is a first for them both.

CHARACTERS:

LEN: An old man

LOTTIE: An old woman

ROAD TRIP by Jan Probst

Directed by Annie Koepf

The well-planned family vacation takes a sharp left turn.

CHARACTERS:

ALLEN T. – Fifties. Buttoned down in personality and appearance.

MARY T. – Allen's wife of thirty years. Same age. A former free spirit, her enthusiasm for life has been dampened over the years.

JACK T. – Their son. Twenty-nine years old. He has never quite grown up.

AUNT PAT – Mary's sister.

UNCLE JOE – Allen's brother.

MICHAEL – Jack's best friend since childhood.

FOUR DAUGHTERS by Ellen Wittlinger

Directed by Gabriella De Brequet

Joanne interrupts Ruth's meditative viewing of her favorite painting with stories of her personal problems until Ruth is pulled out of her own introspection and connects with Joanne over the contrasting feelings the painting stirs in each of them.

CHARACTERS:

RUTH: 80ish female, any race, glasses, gray-hair, dressed conservatively in clothes that were beautiful and in style 30 years ago. Orthopedic shoes. She carries a cane and struggles to stand up straight.

JOANNE: 60-65, female, any race, hair dyed, wearing a brightly-colored dress, perhaps a little small for her, and heels higher than they ought to be for a woman with bad feet.

MUSEUM GUARD: any age, gender, or race

SOCK PUPPET FETISH NOIR by Kelly McBurnette-Andronicos

Directed by Emily Gates

Jane's socks are missing, and she needs the help of "Darrell", a sock puppet investigator, to find them. But "Darrell" has issues. As it turns out, so does Jane.

CHARACTERS:

JANE – a woman, any age.

MELVIN – a man, any age but also "DARRELL," a sock puppet.

FIGHTING MR. RIGHT by Barbara Lindsay

Directed by Louise Lohmann

After a great first date, a young man learns there are rules to follow if he wants to get to second base, or even to a second date.

CHARACTERS:

MARLA - A young single woman, awkward, eager, excited, scared

JOEL - A young single man, doing his darndest

A RIGHT WAY TO FOLD A FITTED SHEET by Robin Berle

Directed by Mara Capati

Mira can't sleep and decides to do some laundry. When she goes to put the laundry away, she sees what has become of the linen closet.

CHARACTERS:

MIRA - (30s) she/her, any race, she wears baggy sweatpants, a sweatshirt, and socks, married to WYATT.

WYATT - (30s) he/him, any race, he wears pajama pants and a white undershirt, married to MIRA.

GIRL SCOUT COOKIES by Pat Montley

Directed by Gianbari Deebom

A Pothead tries to do business with a Girl Scout.

CHARACTERS:

Girl Scout - 12 (but can be played by older actor), any race; precocious, bright-eyed-and-bushy-tailed, bit of a smart-aleck ready to take Pothead for a ride, great sense of humor

Pothead - early 20's, any race; laid-back
