This partnership with Scoundrel and Scamp and Tucson Meet Yourself has been fun and you get to enjoy the end result!
When a young couple discover the largest Día de los Muertos altar they've ever seen, magic begins permeating their world. A little creature, known as an alebrije, sweeps into the room and takes the bride's imagination, merging past and present in this playful homage to Pedro Linares, the creator of the alebrije. Set in present-day San Luis Potosí, in Xochimilco in 1936, and in an afterlife that looks rather like a psychedelic Oaxacan jungle, young Pedro realizes his artistic potential and creates a cultural legacy. Alebrijes celebrates the beauty and absurdity of life, art, and love, and invites us to consider that death is not a severance, but an evolution.

The Hunter Moon Reading
We're in collaboration once again with The Reading Series, an all-ages poetry open mic that aims to provide a safe space for people of all identities to share. Reading in the title references astrology, tarot, and other means of divinity; inviting spirit and ancestors to empower those who step to the mic.
THE MOON READINGS, named after the respective Full Moon of each month, will be the series' sixth season. This newest season begins next Saturday with featured poet Soojung, DJ Mommy1ssues, and series host Eva Sierra!
Saturday October 12, 2024
6:00- 8:00 pm
Open mic sign ups at 5:30pm
El Pueblo Center Courtyard
Free!
Featured Poet:
Soojung is a queer, diasporic Korean singer-songwriter and poet, whose work explores family mythology, mourning, and memory. They interrogate the dreamscape of inherited sorrows and joys, and love a bowl of boiling-hot soup, and reading with their cats Jadu and Podo. They are a 2023 Phoenix Artist to Work Grantee, and are currently working on their upcoming EP to be released November 2024.
DJ: Mommy1ssues
Come through and share the love. Sign up to spit a poem or listen in and enjoy the vibe!
The Moon Readings are made possible through a Budget de la Gente grant from Ward 1's Participatory Budgeting program.
