Join us for a staged reading of "Lungs" at The Rogue!

Subject: Join us for a staged reading of "Lungs" at The Rogue!

The Rogue Theatre

300 East University Boulevard, Tucson, AZ - 520-551-2053

On this Sunday afternoon, April 2 at 2:00 p.m. we're presenting a staged reading of Lungs by Duncan Macmillan. This fascinating play is about a young couple who wants to have a child but is running out of time.

The Guardian describes the 2011 play: "Duncan Macmillan's distinctive, off-kilter love story is brutally honest, funny, edgy and current. It gives voice to a generation for whom uncertainty is a way of life through two flawed, but deeply human, people who you don't always like but start to feel you might love."

Several people who have come to the staged readings in our Ambruster Play-Reading Series have been surprised that a staged reading is a lot like seeing the actual play. The actors have scripts in hand and there's no set, but it's amazing how much of the play you can see and hear. And this play is definitely worth seeing and hearing.

Directed by David Weynand and featuring Matt Bowdren and Grace Kirkpatrick. Tickets are just $15.

Join us on Sunday afternoon by calling the Rogue box office (520-551-2053) or you can always  buy tickets on-line with NO added fees.

Here's to a wonderful week!

Auditions: ST. FRANCIS THEATRE TO PRODUCE REBECCA GILMAN’S "LUNA GALE" IN OCTOBER

From: St. Francis Tickets [mailto:stfrancistickets@gmail.com]
Sent: Saturday, March 25, 2017 9:18 PM
Subject: ST. FRANCIS THEATRE TO PRODUCE REBECCA GILMAN'S "LUNA GALE" IN OCTOBER

Award winning playwright Rebecca Gilman's searing drama, Luna Gale, is a play for our times. Its narrative centers on finding the proper home for a baby ("Luna Gale") born to a drug addicted young mother. But Gilman's drama is hardly just another grim story from the annals of child protective services. Beneath its narrative is a troubling exploration of beaten up characters desperately searching for miracles, from drugs, from God and, yes, from the Department of Human Services, where a social worker tries to heal her own wounds through helping others in distress. It is a play that understands the complexity of the choices that life offers, and reveals the complexity of the characters who must make those choices.

The play will run weekends from October 13-29, and will be directed by Mark Klugheit. Auditions will be in mid-May (dates to be announced) and rehearsals will begin in late August. There will be very competitive stipends for cast and crew.

The roles are Caroline (50, a social worker); Karlie (late teens, early 20s, young mother, addict); Peter (early 20s, Karlie's boyfriend, also a drug user); Cindy (early 40s, Caroline's mother, Christian fundamentalist); Pastor Jay (40-50s, Cindy's church leader); Cliff (40-50, Caroline's social services supervisor); and Lourdes (late teens, graduate of an addiction treatment program). There may be some age flexibility for certain roles depending on the overall composition of the cast.

This promises to be an intense, and exciting production. Plays at St. Francis Theatre usually generate nice-sized audiences, and Luna Gale will be well promoted.

Anyone interested in being a part of this play is encouraged to contact Mark at mklugheit@comcast.net

Mark is especially interested in hearing from anyone who might be interested in stage managing or set design. These positions will be well paid, and will offer significant opportunity to be a part of the creative process of bringing Luna Gale to life.

Started in 1971 as an arena for local playwrights, the theatre has expanded its programs to include adaptations of classics and recent Off-Broadway plays and musicals, while continuing to encourage new playwrights through both full productions and staged readings.

Under the leadership of Managing Artistic Director Susan Claassen, Associate Artistic Director James Blair, and PR Director Cathy Johnson, IT is strongly committed to community service and outreach programs. The company's current season includes a six play Main Stage season, many special events, a world class cabaret series, organizational collaborations, educational tours, seminars that encourage community dialogue and Project Pastime – an educational theatre program for mentally challenged youth.
