Rhonda Hallquist and Joanne Mack Robertson in Body Awareness

Body Awareness

May 5 - June 4, 2022

on the Mainstage

"An engaging new comedy by a young playwright with a probing, understated voice...Its quiet rewards steal up on you." - The New York Times

Annie Baker's award-winning Body Awareness simultaneously brings out the comedy and underlying empathy of characters under one roof trying to balance opposing social views. Phyllis, a staunch feminist professor and her acquiescent partner Joyce are hosting Frank, a nude portrait photographer in their home. When Phyllis objects to his work, tensions rise as Joyce unabashedly appreciates his perspective. Her desire to pose for him serves as a small retreat from the responsibilities of raising an adult son who is likely on the Autism spectrum. Received with warm critical acclaim upon its premiere in 2008, Body Awareness continues to resonate strongly with today's audiences.

Body Awareness is directed by Sam Rush and stars Joanne Mack Robertson as Joyce, Rhonda Hallquist as Phyllis, Preston Hatch as Jared, and Keith Wick as Frank.

The show runs May 5th to June 4th, 2022. Thursdays, Fridays, & Saturdays at 7:30pm, Sundays at 3:00pm, with a special Saturday matinee on June 4th at 3:00pm. There's no evening show on June 4th.

Body Awareness contains strong adult language that some may find offensive.

Please bring and wear your mask while attending shows at Live Theatre Workshop.

AZ Bill SB1708 Needs Your Help!

From: Independent Film Arizona <independentfilmarizona@pb02.ascendbywix.com>

Subject: AZ Bill SB1708 Needs Your Help!

AZ Film Incentive Bill SB1708 Needs Your Help to Pass!

Please Help!

We know there are some raw emotions making their way throughout Southern Arizona tonight. After finding out yesterday that the HBO Max Television Series "Duster" was not going to return to the Old Pueblo for further filming and it has pulled up stakes and moved to New Mexico has been a difficult pill to swallow. But there is SO MUCH HOPE! We are a hairs breathe away from passing the Film Incentive Bill SB1708. As I write this newsletter the bill is sitting in the Arizona House awaiting its final vote. Once approved it moved to the Governors desk for his final signature, and from all reports he is eager to sign this bill into law! Here's how you can HELP us. We would love it if you could reach out to our AZ Legislators and let them know that these incentives are now critical.

Send Out Positive Messages!

While we wait on the Arizona House we need you to continue flooding your social media with positive messages (complete with hashtags) which reaffirm why film incentives are great for small businesses and the AZ economy. Feel free to add your own wording to help personalize it. Suggested examples of what to post on Twitter and Facebook:

#SB1708 helps put money back in the pockets of small businesses across AZ by opening the door to BILLIONS in local investment!

#SB1708 puts BILLIONS of new dollars into the AZ economy while creating thousands of high paying jobs across the state.

Filming brings jobs! #SB1708 brings high paying jobs to AZ in an industry that is not currently here in any significant capacity.

Thank you @AZDavidGowan for working hard to bring Arizonans that work in the film industry back home with #SB1708!

#SB1708 is a workforce/infrastructure bill that puts BILLIONS into the Arizona economy.

Please email your Legislator today and ask them to support #SB1708!

Please email your Legislator today and ask them to support #SB1708 so small businesses across AZ benefit from BILLIONS in industry and workforce development!

#SB1708 will allow Arizonans who want to work in the film industry to stay in AZ.

Support #SB1708 and bring thousands of Arizonans who currently work outside AZ back home!

#SB1708 allows students at AZ film schools like @ASU & @UA to stay here after they graduate and work in AZ! Please email your Legislator today and ask them to support #SB1708!

#SB1708 is specifically designed to benefit AZ while opening the door for the industry to spend BILLIONS in our state.

Keep Arizona film students in AZ! Support #SB1708 and allow students at AZ film schools like @ScottsdaleCC & @pimatweets to stay in AZ to work in the profession of their choice.

One Last Thing!

The last thing we would love for you to do is to email our Arizona legislators with your messages of support for SB1708. Our representatives are finally listening to us and we want to use that to our advantage by reaching out in the most positive ways to let them know that a "YES" vote means A LOT more money pouring into our beautiful and talented state! Keep your wording polite and courteous, and provide a brief message on why film incentives makes dollars and sense for Arizona. If SB1708 passes, Arizona  will have the best chance yet to attract lucrative, high-budget film and TV projects to the Old Pueblo for years to come. If there was ever a time to voice your support of state film incentives to your representatives, this is it. Don't let this opportunity pass us by.

Independent Film Arizona

is as always in support of programs and legislation that will bring more work to our state for those within our film, television, media, and visual arts community. We also welcome incentives that make it easier and more affordable for our fellow Independent Filmmakers from within our state, throughout the country, and hopefully around the world to bring their future projects to our beautiful state. We will continue to watch and inform our Independent Film Community as this legislation makes it way through our Arizona State Government.
