Tucson: Casting Call, Horror Short - Male Lead

Horror Short Male Lead (Tucson)

Date: 2010-07-29, 11:21AM MST
Reply to: ninebuddhas@gmail.com

Nine Buddhas Films is shooting a short horror film this week end here in Tucson to submit to the Arizona Underground Film Festival.

An elderly couple commit suicide together, because they are unable to pay off a series of payday/title loans.

Their adult son [our male lead] kidnaps the title store manager. He beats her, tortures her and is going to kill her -- but when his sister finds out what he has done, she tries to convince him that they should keep her alive as long as the title loan store agrees to remain closed. But her idea does not go as planned. Things get ugly. As it's a horror film -- not everyone can go home at the end of the show.

We shoot with broadcast quality equipment: 3 Canon 7d's, a series of L rated prime lenses, Photoflex and Lowell Pro lights, Seinhauser mics, and Matthews C-stands.

Our group won the audience award for best picture at the Loft's last 48 Hour Shoot Out and for our film Edward Scissorhands is Black, and we showed our film Brother's Work at the Phoenix Art Museum last week end as part of the IFP Phoenix's last program.

We want our current hostage short to be the best film we have made. We already have some wonderful actresses to play the hostage and the daughter/sister.

But we need an 18 to 35 year old male actor to play the brother. You don't need to be tall and handsome -- you do need to be able to act. It's the lead male role. You are the protagonist. Great action in dealing with the hostage. Great dialogue exchanged with the female lead -- the sister. It's a fabulous role in what we hope will be a great film.

No monetary compensation, but you get title credit, a copy of the DVD, and some mighty tasty treats to eat while you work.

If you want to audition, send an email to Chris at ninebuddhas@gmail.com with either your headshot and resume or a description of your experience.

·         Location: Tucson

·         it's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests

·         Compensation: no pay

Please bring a headshot and resume. The audition will consist of a cold reading from the script.

Rehearsals begin August 8th and will be scheduled according to the production team’s availability, usually some late nights, weekday evenings and weekends. Performance dates are Sept. 17th, 18th, 24th and 25th at 10:30 p.m. Some portions of performance will be filmed.

Manticore is a multi-media comic performance with music, masks and monkeyshines; Manticore  touches the edges of the emerging 21st century with outrageous conjectures, ridiculous dancing, strange gods and grudging compassion, as Sanjiv Smith must fight waves of distractions to finish a thought. “This is a play for people who find television too slow.” The Guardian (London).

NATIONAL TOURING ENTERTAINERS SARLOT & EYED PRESENT “CARNIVAL OF ILLUSION” A ONE-OF-A-KIND EVENING OF MAGIC, MYSTERY, AND SECRETS!

Tucson, Ariz. – August 1, 2010 Nationally renowned illusionists Roland Sarlot and Susan Eyed return to Tucson this fall to present Carnival of Illusion, a modern, hip parlour show inspired by the Victorian era which last season played to 62 sold-out audiences. This season opens September 2010 at the Doubletree Hotel Tucson at Reid Park. Tickets are available at www.carnivalofillusion.com and start at $24.

Audiences are transported back to a time when magic flourished as an art and was practiced in the salons and “parlours” of the wealthy. Carnival of Illusion offers a modern, hip edge to the world of magic with an equal partnership, there are no assistants in this show!  Susan is one of the world’s few female magicians.  Carnival of Illusion combines wonder and mystery, humor and secrets to a select audience of just 35 guests. Roland Sarlot and Susan Eyed have created a brand of magic which incorporates everything from unique twists on classic illusions to stories, music, dance and costumes one doesn’t usually think of in a magic show. Their magical vignettes take place around the world – at a café in Paris, a Moroccan Bedouin tent, a royal palace in ancient Japan and other places and times your imagination will love visiting.

“We are thrilled to have Carnival of Illusion back at the Doubletree. This show has been a hit with locals and tourists alike and is not to be missed”, says Helinda Lizarraga, General Manager of the Doubletree.  “As guests of the show, Doubletree is pleased to offer attendees a two for one dinner entrée in our restaurant valued at nearly $40 with each show ticket”.

Sarlot left a career in astronomical research to return to his first love: performing magic. Eyed traveled the world, studied Middle Eastern dance and received a degree in International Studies.  In 2002, Sarlot and Eyed teamed up to create Dance of Illusion, a stage show combining the ancient arts of magic and dance and based on their international travels. Susan became one of the few female magicians in the world. In 2009 they created the parlour show, Carnival of Illusion.

Sarlot and Eyed 2009 National Recipients for "Excellence in Magic", were granted “Featured Performer” status during their 21 show run at Hollywood’s World Famous Magic Castle. They have performed as house entertainers at the world's top resorts including Canyon Ranch and Miraval. About: Roland Sarlot and Susan Eyed are National recipients for “Excellence in Magic” awarded by the oldest magic convention in the country. Fox News called them “Outstanding” and the LA Weekly wrote “Amazing”. These entertainers tour nationally sharing their love and respect for the ancient Art of Magic.

Carnival of Illusion will play September 17, 2010 through May 2011. Show times are every Friday and Saturday at the Doubletree Hotel Tucson at Reid Park. Tickets available at www.carnivalOFillusion.com or (520) 615-5299.

"DOG EAT DOG"  by Nick Seaney

It's Hansel-and-Grethel-meets-Fight-Club when a young man named Fabian, trying to discover his self-worth, keeps repeating the same destructive behavior until he is kidnapped by an organization with a bizarre lust for flesh and given the chance to finally prove himself a man.

LEAD ROLE
-----------------
FABIAN: Lead role
Male, mid-20s
Average male preferably with short hair. Average build.
Fabian is a normal guy who works to survive. He hates his job and has big aspirations but doesn't have the initiative to make his dreams come to fruition. When he is kidnapped, his survival instinct is finally tested to its limits.

SUPPORTING ROLES
-------------------------------
BOSS: Supporting role
Male, 40-50
Fabian's boss is a man who prides himself on his success. He tries to inspire a positive attitude toward work and being successful in others. He absolutely loathes those who get stuck in a rut and eventually learn to accept their circumstances. To him, it is the ultimate sign of weakness and he gives such people no pity. He is a member of a secret organization which feeds the poor to the rich.

IVAN: Supporting role
Male, mid-20s
Very thin, preferably with a shaved head or willing to have head shaved clipper-short.
Ivan once worked with Fabian. Now he's a resident of the secret organization's cellar. He refuses to eat and has gone a little stir crazy from being under such stress for so long. He has the willingness to change as long as he doesn't have to work for it. However, if the opportunity came along, he would fight tooth and nail to achieve it.

GREGORY: Supporting role
Male, 25-30
Very thin, preferably with a shaved head or willing to have head shaved clipper-short.
The epitome of what Fabian is trying to change about himself. Gregory has accepted his fate down alongside Ivan in the cellar of the secret organization. He takes a childish approach to survival -- trying to extend a life he's given up on long ago.

MAITRE D': Supporting role
Male, 35-45
A consummate gentleman through and through. The Maitre D' exhibits a sophistication that is second to none. Underneath his ostentatious exterior lies a sinister man who is a front for the secret organization's restaurant.

SPEAKER: Supporting role
Male, 35-50
A member of the secret organization. He is a morale booster and the equivalent of a fuhrer.

FEATURED EXTRAS
-----------------------------
WOMAN: Featured extra
Female, 60+
Classy older woman in formal attire.
A patron at the secret organization's restaurant.

HUSBAND: Featured extra
Male, 60+

Subject: to list member- national dance day with ku studios

For Immediate Release

There has been a call to make July 31st National Dance Day. National Dance Day is intended to be a grassroots initiative created by Nigel Lythgoe, “So You Think You Can Dance” executive producer and judge, to encourage the nation, young and old, to move. “Dance is one of our greatest mediums of expression and storytelling which, through shows like ‘So You Think You Can Dance,’ has proven its value in bringing individuals from all walks of life together through a positive platform that has no boundaries and cultivates imagination and passion,” says Lythgoe, National Dance Day founder and promoter. “Most importantly, the day is intended to promote health and wellness.”

KU Studios is jumping on the “get moving” bandwagon and would like you, your friends, and family to join us. On July 31st we will be opening our studio to the community to come in and try dance, performance, and general wellness classes for free.

In addition to their standard classes, KU Studios has also invited some amazing people and groups to join in on the festivities. Do not miss out on the fun and try:

Yoga with Arizona Power Yoga
Hawaiian hula with Susan Marshall
Intermediate dance with Tanya Fisher, formerly with Gotta Dance
Acting with James Gooden of Live Theatre Workshop, Comedy Playhouse, Top Hat, and Gaslight Theatre notoriety

KU Studios is also hosting an improv dance hour starting at noon which will give one and all a chance to get up and get their groove on!!

Whether you have just been too shy to get started earlier or never found the time, KU Studios would like this to be the day when anyone and everyone can have an excuse to move that body! Celebrate the day, promote health and wellness through movement and involvement be it dance, pilates, yoga, or just good old fashioned exercise, and be sure to get your groove on. Will you join us?

Remember, the event is free and welcome to everyone. Please do not hesitate to contact us at 520.293.1225 or kukidsbase@aol.com if you should have any questions or concerns. www.kustars.com

Tucson: EEA Productions presents Cornfield of Dreams - Casa Grande

From: Dr Doowopp [mailto:drdoowopp@cox.net]
Sent: Saturday, July 24, 2010 12:36 PM
Subject: Cornfield Of Dreams

Get ready for the corniest play this side of the Mississippi, whichever side you're on! Puns keep popping up in this wacky melodrama like a Jiffy Pop ready to explode! Pop and Ma Kornwell, along with their adopted daughter Little Sweet Pea, are beside themselves with worry. Colonel Kernal's cornfields are inexplicably drying up, so they have no corn for their recipes at the Corn Cafe. To make matters worse, the new banker in tow... Ira Fuse, is demanding payment on their late mortgage! Lucky for them, Major Major comes to town scouting a new location for a military fort. Building the fort in Cornville would be a huge boon for Corn Cafe and General General's General Store (and especially for the lovestruck Little Sweet Pea!), but it won't happen unless they can solve the problem with the water shortage. Besides rolling their eyes at all the puns, the audience will be rolling in the aisles with laughter at the climactic corncob eating duel between Major Major and Ira Fuse that exposes the villain for the river-diverting cad he really is. Ah, shucks!
