MARK MORRIS DANCE GROUP

OCTOBER 21, 2021

Venue: Centennial Hall

… A TRULY JOYOUS, CELEBRATORY WORK OF ART… BRILLIANT HOMAGE TO ONE OF THE GREAT ROCK ALBUMS.

-THE TELEGRAPH

Mark Morris meets The Beatles! Created at the request of the City of Liverpool to start its Sgt. Pepper at 50 Festival in May 2017, the Mark Morris’ evening-length dance work features an original score by composer Ethan Iverson interspersing arrangements of “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” “With a Little Help From My Friends,” “A Day in the Life,” “When I’m Sixty-Four,” “Within You Without You,” and “Penny Lane” along with six original Pepper-inspired pieces intended especially for Mark Morris’ profound understanding of classical forms: Allegro, Scherzo, Adagio, and the blues. This colorful new piece resounds with the ingenuity, musicality, wit, and humanity for which the company is known.

ArKtype presents CARTOGRAPHY

CARTOGRAPHY

OCTOBER 27 - 29, 2021

Venue: UA Marroney Theatre

A WONDER OF THEATER-MAKING… CARTOGRAPHY IS A UNIQUE LIVE DOCUMENTARY ABOUT YOUNG PEOPLE SEARCHING FOR ASYLUM AS HARROWING TIMES AND HOSTILE ENVIRONMENTS OVERTAKE THEIR LIVES.

-DC METRO

How do we navigate our worlds? We build maps of our histories, our memories, and our futures.

Inflatable rafts on the Mediterranean. Dark holds of cargo trucks. Family photos wrapped carefully in a backpack that crosses border checkpoints. These are some of the powerful images of modern-day humanity-in-motion depicted in the theater piece CARTOGRAPHY. Sewn from stories of young Eritrean and Syrian refugees, CARTOGRAPHY fuses dance, film, map-making, and projections to explore the tragedy and wonder of young lives in motion.

In 2016, theater director Kaneza Schaal and award-winning author for young people Christopher Myers flew to Munich, Germany, as 30,000 people were arriving in the city each day in the largest migration in recorded history. Listening to the stories of young refugees, they pondered how to create an artwork that placed all of us within this historical moment.

Combining simple storytelling with interactive video technology (audiences shape the onstage video projections with their own cell phones), Cartography maps the perilous physical journeys and the confusing interior journeys which brought four young people from their old homes to their new ones. Performed by a diverse company of actors from El Salvador, Syria, Lebanon, and Rwanda, this is theater for our times, theater for all ages, theater at its most relevant.

CARTOGRAPHY was made possible by the generous support of The Joyce Foundation, and was workshopped and presented as a rehearsed reading in April 2018 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as part of New Visions/New Voices 2018.

Commissioned by John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts; The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi, Playhouse Square, Cleveland; Wesleyan Center for the Arts, Wesleyan University, CT; and with development support provided by Young People’s Theatre, Toronto, ON, Canada.

What is Mischief Night?
In some areas, October 30th is when ordinarily well-behaved folks set out to stir up a little trouble.  The most famous Mischief Night was on October 30, 1938 when a little radio show announced Martians had landed in New Jersey and were attacking; broadcasting an H.G. Welles science fiction story "War of the Worlds" as if it was a newscast.  The panic that ensued caused some real problems so we don't suggest that sort of prank.  Instead, dress up to express your mischievous side in a fun, positive way on a very special night of our Haunted Ruins Show at Valley of the Moon!

Winding Road Theater Ensemble Season Tickets Now On Sale!

From: Winding Road Theater Ensemble <windingroadte@gmail.com>
Sent: Friday, September 24, 2021 11:59 AM
Subject: Woo hoo! It's a whole new season!

Season Tickets Now On Sale!

As it became clear that theaters would be reopening this fall, Winding Road scrambled to select a season, contract the show rights, secure performance venues, and research a ticketing provider to handle Season Passes as well as individual show tickets. Thank you for your patience while we pulled it all together!

We're thrilled to present to you our 2021-2022 season!
New artists, new plays, exciting new venues!

keepingabreast by Jackie Rosenfeld is a fast-paced, laugh out loud, three person show depicting 28 year old Mina's journey through the decision making process that accompanies a diagnosis of breast cancer. Unlike anything you've seen on this subject, this Winding Read is directed by Ensemble Member Denise Blum and features Ensemble Member China Young, along with Sean Patrick (Spring Awakening) and Myani Watson (Hole in the Sky). keepingabreast plays October 15-24th.

Speaking of Hole in the Sky, our online version is available to view on our YouTube channel through September 30th, free of charge! Click here to watch Hole in the Sky by Reed McColm. This play is sponsored by the generosity of Arizona Theatre Company. All donations benefit Winding Road and Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

Birds of North America by Anna Ouyang Moench is our first Main Stage show, playing November 13-21st. This quiet play observes a strained father/daughter relationship played out over ten years as they meet for their annual ritual of bird-watching. This play will be presented at Valley of the Moon, an outdoor location! All four showings will be matinees, so feel free to bring your binoculars!

Miss American Pie by Gwendolyn Rice, is also a Main Stage show, to be presented at the Cabaret Theater. This one-woman tour de force is part story-telling and part cooking show, an intimate evening of confession and instruction. Note-taking not necessary; we'll give you the recipe! Miss American Pie plays February 11th through 20th, 2022.

A Shot Away by Donna Fiumano-Farley is a docudrama highlighting the death of Tina Priest, a soldier from rural Texas. This powerful Winding Read features actual interviews with women and men who were sexually assaulted while serving in the American military. Performances will be held in various locations throughout April, Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Our last Main Stage show of the season, Eight 10s in Tucson ONLINE streams on demand May 28th-June 5th, featuring eight ten minute plays written and directed by women from all over the US! This popular festival returns for its fourth season, featuring dozens of actors in an evening of diverse entertainment with comedy and drama for all!

Season Passes to all five shows are only $90, a substantial savings over the at-the-door price! Purchase your passes via this link.  ShowTix4U will email you a code to use when you make your reservations to any show this season. It's that easy!

Winding Road Theater Ensemble observes Covid-19 safety protocols. All actors are fully vaccinated. In order to ensure the safety of our community, we respectfully require all patrons to wear masks while in the theater.

Unscrewed Theater: weekend of improv fun with FOUR shows

From: Unscrewed Theater <UnscrewedTheater@gmail.com>
Sent: Thursday, September 23, 2021 6:01 AM
Subject: Have Your Funny Your Way

We Just Wanna Have Fun.

Don't You?

So let's do it.
Safely.

After much deliberation, conversation, and research, we've made the decision to update our Unscrewed Theater COVID-19 policy. So we can keep having fun. Forever. In the safest possible way.

You can read the whole policy here - COVID-19 POLICY.

The short version is that all audience members aged 12 and older attending Unscrewed Theater in-person shows must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (with an FDA or WHO authorized or approved vaccine) or provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 48 hours of the show.  Along with that, we will continue our existing mask policy for all performers, volunteers, instructors, and audience members.

We want to do our absolute best to keep our improv community as safe as possible, and that includes you, our wonderful audience.

And the really great news is that you can live-stream any, and yes, we mean any, of our shows online for a mere $8 per household. From EVERYWHERE! And if that isn't a comedy bargain - well, we don't know what is.

No matter where you sit when you watch our show, you'll be part of the fun. Without your suggestions and participation. . . . . well, it wouldn't be improv, now would it?

We're looking forward to another great weekend of improv fun with FOUR shows coming your way. We just love bringing the funny to Tucson. And now the WORLD.

See you there!

Your Weekend Funny

Your Funny - Your Way!

Friday, 9/23

10:00am (MST/PDT)
10 Minutes With Dawn

Featuring: Cy Barlow, Mike Pierce, and Chris Seidman!

Exclusively on our Unscrewed Theater Facebook page

This Friday, get ready for a Dawn Flashback! We're going back in time to feature three improvisers from our #10MinutesWithDawn Video Vault - Cy Barlow, Mike Pierce, and Chris Seidman. All are members of Unscrewed Theater's founding House Team, "Not Burnt Out Just Unscrewed." Lovingly called NBOJU by those in the know.

And if this isn't enough for you - you can relive even more Dawn Magic here:
https://www.facebook.com/watch/UnscrewedTheater/3579721688750032/

Forty-five weeks of magic, to be precise.

Cy Barlow is a musician with an IT day job. She's a perpetual student of music, theater, and improv and relishes every opportunity to entertain people. At Unscrewed Theater, she performs with "From The Top" and "Not Burnt Out Just Unscrewed." She's also the tenor pan player in Tucson's nerdiest steel drum band, Apocalypso. Cy is probably not your uncle.

Mike Pierce, who is one half of Unscrewed Theater's Team, "The Big Daddies," has been studying, performing, and teaching improv for over 15 years. He is one of the founding members of Unscrewed Theater and performs weekly with "Not Burnt Out Just Unscrewed," Tucson's premier improv troop. He firmly believes that the skills you learn in improv are directly applicable to everyday life as well!

Chris Seidman has been a performing member of "Not Burnt Out Just Unscrewed" since 2005 and an improv instructor since 2013. For over a decade, he has studied improv theory and practice with a variety of Improv veterans, including educational directors of Second City and iO (ImprovOlympic). Not to mention collaborating with Unscrewed Theater's well-versed and professional instructor team. Chris believes the world would be a better place if everyone took an improv class. AND, it's fun! Improv changes lives.

Catch the fun with Dawn - all online and only on the
Unscrewed Theater Facebook page!
