Subject: ReadOUT, ACTout: Banned LGBTQ Children's Book Theatre

ReadOUT, ACTout is a theatrical performance based on five commonly challenged children's books that feature alternative families and gender expressions. This production will not only draw attention to banned books week and the right to read, but will also serve to educate the University of Arizona campus about lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) issues and help prevent bullying of those who are different. It is primarily a collaboration between the Progressive Librarians Guild and Pride Alliance.

Possible books to be read aloud as the actors perform include:
-And Tango Makes Three by Justin Richardson
-The Sissy Duckling by Harvey Fierstein
-The Different Dragon by Jennifer Bryan
-My Princess Boy by Cheryl Kilodavis

This production is in honor of Banned Books Week 2011 and is part of a larger series of Banned Books Week events.

We are currently running a kickstarter campaign to raise $1000 by July 1 in order to get the show started! Kickstarter is a cool way for creative projects to get off the ground. You simply "pledge" a certain amount of money that corresponds with different reward levels. For instance, a pledge of $5 will get you an LGBTQ-themed button and a pledge of $20 will get you a DVD copy of the performance! You can pledge any amount of money, but you don't pay unless the project gets fully funded by the deadline.

You can learn more about the project and make a pledge at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/118256704/readout-actout-banned-lgbtq-childrens-book-theatre
