DESCRIPTION:  “Lucky U Ranch” (working title) is a coming-of-age story about a bullied boy, set in a small desert town in 1953.

SEEKING TALENT:

JUNIOR MCCAULLY - Lead (15 days), 10-13, Caucasian, 5’ 1” or shorter. Junior is bullied at school because of his weight. Desperate to know more about his absent father, who may or may not have died in WWII, he lives at Lucky U Ranch trailer park with his loving, hard-working mother. Junior has a good heart and a very creative imagination. (Experience not necessary, but preferred).

STAN MCCAULLY (2 days), 35-50. Caucasian. Stan is Junior’s long-absent father. Tall, a bit lanky. Could be mistaken for a hobo, has been hopping trains to find his family. Cleans up well. Suffered from shell shock (WWII) and was hospitalized. Wasn’t expected to recover. 

CLIFF DIXON (2 days), 35-50. Caucasian. Cliff is good looking with a big ego; a well-to-do son of a star of yesteryear. Has a temper when drunk. A “player,” he is at constant, near violent odds with his equally mean, alcoholic wife.

TOM DAWSON (1-2 days), 10-13. Caucasian. Athletic, good looking. Bullies and humiliates Junior. Thinks he’s invincible. Has his ‘gang’ of followers and a lot of influence.

ARNIE SHAPIRO (1 day), 10-13. Team captain, chooses baseball team. Athletic, insensitive & competitive.

LEROY (1 day), 10-13. Athletic. Defends Junior to Tom Dawson’s face.

TEACHER (1-2 days), 35-50. Male or Female. Junior’s 6th grade teacher. Referees a baseball game.

DIRT POOR WOMAN (1 day), non-speaking, 20-35. Thin. Sits in front of shack with toddler, smoking.

BEAUTIFUL WOMAN IN NEGLIGEE (1 day), 25-35. Featured in “Dragnet” T.V. show fantasy sequence with “Junior” as Jack Webb. Will appear in negligee.

MOVIE STAR G.I. (1 day), 25-35. Tall, handsome soldier who walks off the movie screen in Junior’s dream and is introduced as his father.

TRUCK DRIVER (1 day), 45-60. A friendly regular. Knows and likes everyone.

TRUCK STOP WAITRESS (1 day), 20’s. Often sick, stays home from work. Has personal problems.

FEMALE CAFETERIA MONITOR (1 day), 30-50. Not popular when she was in school. Takes a smoke break to flirt with “Male Cafeteria Monitor.”

MALE CAFETERIA MONITOR (1 day), 30-50. Not popular when he was in school. Takes a smoke break to flirt with “Female Cafeteria Monitor.”

TOM DAWSON’S “CHEERLEADERS" (1-2 days), 11-13. Four giggling girls who follow the popular Tom Dawson around.
