The Asteroid Reading Series is the fourth iteration of Tucson poet, Eva Sierra's, Reading Series, all-ages poetry open mic which began in 2020. The series aims to provide a safe space for people of all identities to share. 'Reading' in the title references astrology and tarot readings: inviting ancestors, spirit and divinity to empower those who step to the mic. THE ASTEROID READINGS, named after some of the asteroids regarded in astrology, begin January 2024 in collaboration with Borderlands Theatre.

Chervanna Givens is a Black, Latina writer who resides in Tucson, Arizona. Chervanna writes about her experiences with grief, queer love, and heartbreak. Chervanna encapsulates her style in this debut collection of poems and states: "I write not for myself, but for those who desire a space to belong to, a place to call home.

As part of our year-long collaboration with One Nation One Project (ONOP), we are assisting with a research study about the possible relationship between arts participation, well-being and social cohesion in our community. ONOP is looking for 4-8 participants who will be part of a 90-minute virtual discussion.

 

Participants will receive a $50 gift card. You must be 18 or older to take part in this focus group.

Teaching Artists For Upcoming Spring Youth Camp!

 

Are you an inspiring and imaginative individual with a passion for education and the arts? BorderlandsTheater wants YOU to be a part of our upcoming project!

March 11th - 15th

 

Project Overview:

We are excited to present Barrio Stars, a youth camp taking place in the spring with an original script that will captivate the minds of 4th - 6th graders. As a teaching artist, you will have the opportunity to bring this script to life through engaging and dynamic workshops. Join us and cultivate creativity, expression, and a love for the performing arts for our local communities!

 

What We're Looking For:

- Enthusiastic teaching artists with a background in drama, theater, or related fields.

- Experience working with elementary school-aged children and class management.

- Energy to encourage a positive and inclusive learning environment.

 

Responsibilities:

- Facilitate interactive and educational workshops based on the original script.

- Inspire creativity, teamwork, and self-expression in young minds.

- Collaborate with a talented team of educators and professionals.
