Subject: Announcing Our 2024-2025 Season!
Winding Road is thrilled to present our 16th season, an eclectic mix of live theater productions including:
POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive, by Selina Fillinger.
The first of four Main Stage Productions, starting in September, 2024, is "POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive", by Selina Fillinger. One four-letter word is about to rock 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. When the President unwittingly spins a PR nightmare into a global crisis, the seven brilliant and beleaguered women he relies upon most risk life, liberty, and the pursuit of sanity to keep the commander-in-chief out of trouble. Hailed as a cross between "Saturday Night Live" sketch comedy and HBO/MAX's "Veep", Selina Fillinger's brilliant, all-female farce took Broadway by storm in a star-studded production that earned three 2022 Tony nominations.
Tales of Terror!, devised and adapted by the Winding Road Ensemble.
In October, 2024, Wounding Road will be getting into the Halloween spirit with "Tales of Terror!", devised and adapted by the Winding Road Ensemble. Nestled within a frame story crafted by the Ensemble, this production features tales of the macabre by some of the world's greatest writers of scary stories, including Edgar Allan Poe, H.P Lovecraft, Washington Irving, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and more. Come for the spine tingling spookiness, but be prepared to ask yourself, "Am I afraid of the dark?"
American Moor, by Keith Hamilton Cobb.
In February, 2025, the Company will stage "American Moor" by Keith Hamilton Cobb. A seasoned African-American actor, auditioning for the role of William Shakespeare's iconic Black hero Othello, must respond to the dictates of a younger white director who presumes to understand how to maximize the Black character for believability. What could possibly go wrong? "American Moor" is a poetic exploration that examines the experience and perspective of black men in America through the metaphor of Shakespeare's character Othello, offering up a host of insights that are by turns introspective and indicting, difficult and deeply moving. It is a play about race in America, but it is also a play about who gets to make art, who gets to play Shakespeare, about whose lives and perspectives matter, about actors and acting, and about the nature of unadulterated love.
Admissions, by Joshua Harmon.
The final show of the season, scheduled for March, 2025, is "Admissions" by Joshua Harmon. Sherri Rosen-Mason is head of the admissions department at a New England prep school, fighting to diversify the student body. Alongside her husband, the school's headmaster, they've largely succeeded in bringing a stodgy institution into the twenty-first century. But when their only son sets his sights on an Ivy League university, personal ambition collides with progressive values with convulsive results. "Admissions" is a no-holds-barred look at privilege, power, and the perils of hypocrisy that explodes the ideals and contradictions of liberal white America.
Performance dates and venues will be announced soon. More information is available on our website, www.windingroadtheater.org
