Musical Director – Education Programs

(Part-Time Hourly Position)

 

Live Theatre Workshop is seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative Musical Director to join our Education team. This flexible, hourly position is a wonderful opportunity for someone looking for a rewarding side gig while helping students of all ages discover the joy of music and theatre.

At Live Theatre Workshop, we believe that theatre has the power to bring people together, build confidence, and create lifelong memories. We are looking for someone who shares our commitment to fostering a warm, welcoming, and accepting environment where every student feels valued and encouraged to grow.

Responsibilities

·    Teach and lead vocal music for youth and adult classes, camps, and productions.

·    Help students develop healthy vocal technique, musicality, and confidence.

·    Collaborate with directors, choreographers, and education staff.

·    Create an inclusive and supportive rehearsal atmosphere.

·    Encourage creativity, teamwork, and a love of performing arts.

·    Accompany rehearsals or provide rehearsal tracks as needed.

Qualifications

·    Experience as a musical director, vocal coach, accompanist, or music educator.

·    Strong piano skills are preferred.

·    Passion for working with students of all ages and experience levels.

·    Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

·    Commitment to creating a positive, respectful, and affirming space for all participants.

Schedule & Compensation

·    Flexible, hourly position.

·    Primarily late afternoons to evenings & weekends.

·    Ideal for educators, musicians, performers, or music directors seeking supplemental work.

·    Compensation: $18 per hour.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Invisible Theatre  •  Tucson, Arizona

Submissions are now open for Invisible Theatre's 6th annual all-monologue show: GOING IT ALONE We'd love some hometown representation — submit today! The show is a collection of monologues chosen from submissions, celebrating the unique challenge of writing for a solo performer and performing solo.

 

Submission Guidelines

•      Must be a solo piece.

•      Must be a standalone monologue — not a monologue excerpted from a full-length play you've written.

•      Open to all playwrights worldwide.

•      Only one (1) submission accepted per playwright.

•      Performance length of the piece cannot exceed 7 minutes. No exceptions.

•      Any topic.

•      Please be sure your name and email address appear on the title page.

•      Monologues only — the piece must require just one actor on stage.

•      10–12 monologues will be selected.

•      A small honorarium will be paid to chosen playwrights.

•      Selected monologues will be cast, performed, and directed by Tucson theatre artists.

About the Show

With time running out to renew their lease, the women of the beleaguered New Bunion Historical Society must find creative ways to snare new members and lure visitors to their sleepy New England town. When a set of George Washington’s dentures turns up in the hands of an unexpected rival, the ladies of the society brace themselves for all-out war. Heartfelt and historic, this farce proves that our differences don’t divide us — they make us strong.

Role Descriptions

•      Hester Bunion: Older female. President and oldest member of the New Bunion Historical Society.

•      Ann Mather: Female, 50s or up. One-time trophy wife of a wealthy townsman.

•      Edie Plotz: Middle-aged female. Florist and narcoleptic; an expert on all affairs of the town.

•      Jess Wilder: College-aged female. Nonconformist.

•      Louisa Tye: 50s or up, Black female. Descendant of New Bunion settlers; scholar.

•      Mayor Ronald Rice, Big Jim & Announcer: Male, any age, capable of creating three distinct character voices. Does not appear onstage — voice-over only — but the role will be performed live rather than pre-recorded.

What to Prepare

•      Cold readings and stage movement direction

•      A short monologue, one minute maximum — bring your own, or one will be provided

•      You may attend either or both audition nights

•      Shoestring does not precast — all roles are cast from auditions

Casting & Rehearsal Timeline

•      Cast announced: Thursday, September 10

•      Rehearsals begin: Monday, September 14 (first reading), then Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays at 6:30 PM

•      Tech week: October 25–29
