CASTING FOR MALE ACTOR FOR SHORT FILM, LATE 20s-EARLY 30s, PAID GIG

ON APRIL 7TH, AT DOWNTOWN MAIN LIBRARY FROM 3-5PM, CATALINA ROOM

PLEASE EMAIL US AT PINATAMOVIE@GMAIL.COM w/ an image of yourself and let us know if you can make it.

For the audition, we will give you sides to read for voiceover scenes and then act out a quick scene.

The Story

The Story is a narrative about an outcast, quietly living alone in his empty town by the train tracks. One day he finds a dead woman laying on the tracks. He connects with this body, pities it. So, he decides to carry her into his house. Since he lives entirely alone, he creates an odd relationship with the body, as if she is a guest in his house, he begins to care for the corpse. He decides to investigate the crime on his own without the involvement of the police, hoping to bring the killers to justice. This is not your average whodunit, this is the journey through the shadows within the mind of our hero and the mystery of the body becomes a catalyst for his explosive mental breakdown.

This is an introspective analysis about the corruption of human nature, told through speculative narration by the protagonist. This film's comment on violence presents a disturbing metaphor using a PiƱata to emulate the deep seated brutality spawned as a child.

The Authors

Rio Finnegan - Writer/ Director - Rio is a budding filmmaker, drawing his influences from Kurosawa and Godard  to Gondry and Jonze. He is an active member of Voices Inc, a program designed to produce and share the stories of our community.  He has directed several documentaries, which have shown at the Arizona International Film Festival. He is presently working with the Arizona Theatre Company creating a film documentary of the ATC Summer OnStage program. He grew up emersed in theatre, and believes the experience of live theatre has influenced his desision to be a a practicing screenwriter and playwrite and plans to enroll in the film school at The California Institute of the Arts. He is also an avid music lover and enjoys writing and performing original music with his eclectic blues band, Quaking River.

Donny Tran - Producer - Donny graduated from the University of Arizona and went on to open his own production company shooting 2 pilot shows in Arizona, Get Ripped (WB) and the novela Modelos Y Cueros (Telemundo). He has also worked on several projects in Hollywood including Letters from Iwo Jima, Pirates of the Carribean 3 and Entourage. He teaches documentary video for Voices Inc.

Roles Needed:

Protagonist - Male, in his late 20s or early 30’s. He is a quiet, soft spoken, sympathetic character, he is often misunderstood. He lives alone, so the presence of this lifeless body becomes a catalyst towards his explosive mental breakdown.

Pima Community College Theatre Arts presents Inherit the Wind, the gripping and inspiring fictional drama based on the 1925 Scopes Monkey Trial, written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee. Nancy Davis Booth directs the play that tackles the ever-present debate over the right to freely think and question. Set in a present-day small town, faith and science collide when a teacher is arrested, tried and convicted for teaching evolutionary theory to his public school students during science class. The whole town is forced to confront their long-held beliefs as a raging discourse ensues between the literal interpretation of creation found in the book of "Genesis" and the scientific theory of evolution as posited by Charles Darwin in his "Origin of Species" (1859). A question and answer discussion follows each performance.

Booth remarks, "The debate continues 80 years later and its still not settled, nor will it be. It invokes the eternal question of where do we come from and who made us? It's important for the audience to understand that the story is not so much about science versus creationism as it is about a person's right to think." She adds, "I've updated the setting to current day and changed the gender of some of the key characters to emphasize the universality of the story." A minimalistic set and the intimate size of the theatre gives the audience, seated on three sides of the action, a sense of direct involvement.

Pima Community College Center for the Arts is located on the West Campus at 2202 West Anklam Road, Tucson (just west of downtown).

Arizona Theatre Company

Presents

Winner of the 2010 Tony Award for Best Play

RED

by John Logan

Master abstract expressionist Mark Rothko, one of the most visionary artists of the 20th century, has landed the commission of a lifetime, a series of murals for New York's Four Seasons Restaurant.  As he wrestles with the overwhelming task of creating multiple paintings on a grand scale, his new young assistant questions his views of art, creativity and commerce. What follows is a raw and provocative dialogue between master and novice, old guard and new guard exploring the question, "Is art meant to provoke, soothe or disturb?" Based on true events, Red is a searing portrait of an artist's ambition and vulnerability as he tries to create a definitive work for an extraordinary setting. Red is the winner of six 2010 Tony Awards including Best Play, the most honored play of the Broadway season.
Contains mature language.

LIVE THEATRE WORKSHOP - 5317 E. Speedway | Tucson, AZ 85712

Located on the North side of Speedway between Rosemont and Craycroft

Produced by Special Arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc.

THIS PRODUCTION CONTAINS ADULT LANGUAGE AND CONTENT.

NO ONE UNDER 16 ADMITTED.

Kyle Kalke, an astronomer since childhood, a high school "science nerd," falls in love with flamboyant, outspoken, openhearted Zoe, who—astonishingly—loves him back. When she is kidnapped and murdered, Kyle barricades himself by devoting himself more feverishly to the cosmos and losing himself in loveless sex. TOUCH is about a man in despair questioning whether there is any point to rediscovering passion, risking connection, groping toward the touch that will rekindle joy.

“…a gripping, heart-wrenching, tender drama whose scenes shift seamlessly, character to character, past to present.”

-The New York Times

This dark comedy portrays husband and wife George and Martha in a searing night of dangerous fun and games. By the evening’s end, a stunning revelation provides a climax that has shocked audiences for years. With the play’s razor-sharp dialogue and the stripping away of social pretense, Newsweek rightly foresaw Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? as, “A brilliantly original work of art—an excoriating theatrical experience, surging with shocks of recognition and dramatic fire [that] will be igniting Broadway for some time to come.”

WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? is directed by Ensemble member Terry Erbe (Winding Road’s THE LAST FIVE YEARS and TALLEY’S FOLLY -- 2011 MAC Award nominee, Best Director) and featuring Lesley Abrams (Live Theatre Workshop’s THREE VIEWINGS, Winding Road’s THE LION IN WINTER), Bill Epstein (Beowulf Alley’s LEAR) as George and Martha with Ensemble member Amy Erbe (Winding Road’s THE LAST FIVE YEARS and A HUMAN EQUATION) and Robert Anthony Peters (Chicken Lipps’ DEAD MAN’S CELL PHONE) as Honey and Nick.

Winding Road Theater Ensemble is a group of artists whose mission is to tell dynamic, theatrical stories that illuminate the human condition and celebrate the theater’s power to entertain us, to move us, and to bring us joy. Inspired by the disparate creative journeys that eventually brought us together, WRTE has a special commitment to developing new work by living American playwrights. We fulfill our mission by producing seasons of contemporary and classic works representing diverse styles, themes, and perspectives; and by presenting readings, workshops, and full productions of new plays.

Active Imagination Theatre at Beowulf Alley presents Rabbit Hood, at noon (12:00PM) Saturday April 7th, at Beowulf Alley Theatre, 11 S 6th Avenue in downtown Tucson. Tickets prices are $5 for children and adults. For more information call 520-882-0555, email theatre@beowulfalley.org or visit our website www.beowulfalley.org.

In this retelling of Robin Hood for Easter, Rabbit Hood steals eggs from the snooty chickens to decorate them and hide them for kids on Easter. The chickens used to willingly give up their eggs, but this year Farmer John hires Cluck, a mean chicken bounty hunter, to catch Rabbit Hood. We have Friar Duck, Little Juan, and many familiar characters, and our young audience is invited onstage to participate in the play, which ends with an Easter Egg Hunt.
