St. Francis Theatre audition - Fahrenheit 451

From: David Goguen [mailto:theplaysthethingdg@gmail.com]
Sent: Monday, June 8, 2015 8:15 PM
Subject: St. Francis Theatre audition announcement - Fahrenheit 451

St. Francis Theatre is auditioning for October performances of Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451.

Audition Times:

All auditions will be at St Francis in the Foothills, 4625 E. River Rd.  Tucson AZ 85718.

Thursday 06-11-15, 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm  Room 30-31

Saturday 06-13-15, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm  The Center

We will be casting up to 24 adult parts (young and older).  Small stipend available.

Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 is a dystopian, (opposite of utopian) play presenting a future American society locked in a senseless war where books are outlawed and "firemen" burn any that are found.  The play will be directed by Mike Wilkinson and will be performed in a Dynamic Reader's Theatre format with no required memorization and limited rehearsal schedule.

Come prepared to read excerpts from the script that will be provided.  Bring a bio and headshot, if available.  Plan to stay for as long as the Director requests.  If selected for a role or roles, the rehearsal schedule will begin on Tuesday, September 22nd and be held on every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday until the week of the play opening with a Preview performance on Thursday, October 15th.  The play will be presented over two weekends from October16-18 through October 23-25th with final weekend performances being held on Sundays as a 3:00 PM Matinee.  Even though the rehearsal schedule is abbreviated, you will not be required to attend every rehearsal and will only be scheduled to rehearse when your particular unit is meeting.

St. Francis Theatre has provided a wide variety of theatrical entertainment to a loyal following for over 20 years.  We specialize in offering a quality theatre experience in an intimate setting at an affordable price.

Contact Dave Goguen at St. Francis Theater to inform him of the date you will audition or with any questions at: theplaysthethingdg@gmail.com

FOUR NEW PLAYS AT TADA!FEST

By Chuck Graham, TucsonStage.com

FOUR NEW PLAYS AT TADA!FEST

This year 322 new plays were submitted to the annual script writing contest held by the Tucson Alliance of Dramatic Artists. Those entries were narrowed to 10...and now the Final Four, to be showcased at TADA!Fest 2015, running June 11-June 14 at  the Community Playhouse, 1881 N. Oracle Rd.

Each evening will feature the stage reading of a different play, with talk-back to follow. The winner will be chosen in a popular vote by...You the Audience!

Here's the schedule

"Money Master
," written by Ron Pullins of Tucson, Arizona, directed by Dlyn Fairfax. Ralph makes corn dogs and reads Plato, but his wife wants him to get rich. The Dollartorium, she says, is where a machine makes money. Ralph finds out the true cost of unearned riches.
Presented Thursday, June 11, at 7:30 p.m.

"Other People's Dreams," written by Evan Guilford-Blake of Stone Mountain, GA,    directed by T. Loving. The story concerns the dissolution of an African-American family. A patriarchal but well‑meaning father, whose dreams for his sons conflict with their own, is forced to confront the reality that he may lose them both if he refuses to compromise his own dream. This script was also the winner of the Southern Playwrights Competition.
Presented Friday, June 12, at 7:30 p.m

"Private Company," written by Briane Raine of Los Angeles, CA, directed by John Vornholt. Albert Maynard is dead. The elderly founder and CEO of Maynard Associates died four days ago in the penthouse of one of the five luxury buildings his company owns in Lower Manhattan. Andrew Maynard is dead~!!!! ! His widow, Ardyce, is determined to present to their shareholders an appearance of a smoothly organized transition.

But first she must deal with senior employees who compete for promotion. She meets with them in his penthouse as they attempt to work out their differences - personal, financial and romantic - all in one night.
Presented Saturday, June 13, at 7:30 p.m.

"Senior Moments," David Middleman of Tempe, Arizona, directed by Sheldon Metz.

Secretive and driven, Dr. Liz Sanders drafts young and unsuspecting Dr. Jason Frick into the world of her capricious patients, whose escapades are frequently humorous, often heartbreaking, and sometimes dangerous.

Resisting his unsolicited mentor's regimen, Jason uncovers a compelling revelation about both her and the looming tsunami that is Alzheimer's disease.
Presented Sunday, June 14, at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets are $7 each play, $20 all four. Completely free for active military. Details and reservations, contact Sheldon Metz, 520-722-9553, (cell) 310-367-5640, email: thedrektor@gmail.com

THE HARD PROBLEM

PLEASE NOTE: WE CANNOT ACCEPT PASSES OR GROUPONS FOR THIS SCREENING.

Co-presented by The Rogue Theatre and The Loft Cinema.

Acclaimed playwright Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love; Arcadia; Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead) returns to the National Theatre with his highly-anticipated new play, The Hard Problem, directed by Nicholas Hytner (Othello; Hamlet; One Man, Two Guvnors).

“Stimulating. Absorbing. A rich, ideas-packed work.” – Guardian

Hilary, a young psychology researcher at a brain science institute, is nursing a private sorrow and a troubling question at work, where psychology and biology meet. If there is nothing but matter, what is consciousness? This is ‘the hard problem’ which puts Hilary at odds with her colleagues, who include her first mentor Spike, her boss Leo and the billionaire founder of the institute, Jerry. Is the day coming when the computer and the fMRI scanner will answer all the questions psychology can ask? Meanwhile Hilary needs a miracle, and she is prepared to pray for one. (Running time: 180 mins., includes intermission)

Many of you may have heard about the terrible accident that occurred last Sunday during our play "The Language of Flowers"  http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory/arizona-actor-accidentally-stabbed-performance-3153115... has incurred a lot of out of pocket medical expenses due to the accident and we would like to help him out.  He is a wonderful friend, father, teacher and actor in the Tucson community and we want him to be able to keep doing all of these things once he's recovered.  What you may not know about the incident, this is why Ken is such an amazing actor, is that after the accident Ken finished the scene.  He went on for an additional 10 minutes without missing a beat (or a line).  His scene partner new that she had scratched him, but had no idea how bad it was until the two of them were both off stage.  Talk about commitment to your craft!  Please help him out, go to Caringbridge at http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/kenbeider or directly to Go Fund Me at http://www.gofundme.com/w8zbww
