Steel Magnolias is a hilarious and heartwarming tale about six women dealing with the joy and heartbreak in their lives.  The show opens November 10 and will run for two weekends.  Showtimes are as follows:

The ARIZONA GRAND OPRY is a new live music production organization dedicated to developing new talent by paying homage to the roots of American Country music. Drawing on the repertoire of the legendary artists that set the American experience to song, the Arizona Grand Opry is a membership-driven showcase for those who have chosen to pursue the performing arts of country music in all its forms and styles.

 

The opportunity to showcase local and regional country music talent in a professional setting has been greatly lacking in the southwest. The Arizona Grand Opry sets out to fill the void by providing a forum for talented performers who share a passion for country music to develop and refine their skills (regardless of prior experience). The Opry will provide an environment that promotes education and experience-building by partnering developing talent with seasoned professional musicians, and allowing them to polish their skills in a live performance setting.

 

The final product of the ARIZONA GRAND OPRY and its family of performers will be a bi-monthly live concert at the beautifully-appointed GASLIGHT MUSIC HALL in Oro Valley, AZ. The production will be a public, ticketed event designed to showcase the passion and hard work of these talented up-and-comers as they perform country music classics backed by a live band comprised of music industry veterans. Join us for the special opportunity to train with Maxim Fomitchev. A great opportunity for circus, theater and dance performers and students to add to their performance skills. Get flexible. Learn how to move and create a story using mime and body language. Create a scene with invisible props, use expression without words to convey a message. Focus on:

This panel dives deep into the world of reality TV or, in entertainment industry terms, "unscripted" television. Four expert panelists, three of whom are UA Alumni, will share their personal experiences working in reality TV as a production company exec, an agent, a producer, and a competitor. Some of the questions we'll ask them are: How do I get my reality TV show idea in front of an industry decision-maker? What types of shows are producers looking for? What's it like to participate or compete on a show? And, of course, is it really reality? Hear the real story from professionals who are behind the scenes and from someone who took the leap to compete.... and won.

PLUS…if you have a Reality TV show idea, we're offering an opportunity for a selected few to pitch their show ideas to industry professionals. Winners will be judged on originality, creativity, and whether the project is doable, with extra points going to shows that lend themselves to filming in Southern Arizona. Logline: When an elementary school English teacher suspects his students of cheating, he goes to extreme lengths to uncover a scandal interwoven with passion and pizza.

Description: A goofy math teacher who's always just outside of the inside joke. His passionate and accommodating nature is always helpful in times of need.

November feels like the right month for a Chekhov play. A little melancholic, the brink of winter, family gatherings approaching, the temperature dropping below 90 degrees (well, it's Chekhov in Tucson

after all). 

 

In just a few days, Uncle Vanya opens at The Rogue. Here's what Director Joe McGrath has to say about the play:  

 

   Chekhov's theatre exists in the subtle, brittle exchanges of the human animal: our foibles and skillfulness, our venal preoccupations and noble courage, our delusions as well as those flashes of self-awareness when we see, with pain and wisdom, our own frailties.
   It is well known that Chekhov insisted that his plays were comedies. It is often hard to render them as such. Uncle Vanya is a series of events gone wrong or off the rails. But I take him at his word that these moments of deep pain, frustration, and crossed signals, like a clown's slips or collisions, are for the most part to be taken with humor. And Chekhov, good doctor that he is, sees the vulnerabilities of people and their foolish intentions with sympathy, and perhaps prescribes laughter as the best therapy. A cure never comes, but how could it? The affliction is our humanity--a malaise to be managed, not cured. 

  

Join us, dear Rogues, for this classic play opening this Thursday.

A little laughter about the foolishness of humans seems to be especially timely this November.

A variety of choreographers throughout Tucson and Southern Arizona come to share fresh and innovative works from various stages of the creative process. The works range from serious to silly and some are presented here for the first time. This year features choreographers from ZUZI!, Billbob Brown, MAC & Company, and others.

 

"The 'No Frills' concert has come to serve two important purposes," says ZUZI!'s Director of Arts Education, Nanette Robinson. "It has become a popular venue for showcasing youth performers, schools, and youth choreography and it continues to be venue for local choreographers to take creative risks with new work." The show has been described as an open mic for dance and is a unique opportunity to perform in a relaxed setting. As the name suggests, there are no frills-no fancy lights, no fancy sets-just dancers, choreographers, and experimentation.

Lucid Body Movement Class with Nanette

Tuesday mornings at 11:00am - 12:15pm

 

Our Lucid Body Dance class involves movement rituals and studies rooted in Skinner releasing principles, images, improvisation and authentic movement. In this class we will look at the internal landscape of the body and how it relates to the external landscape of our world. We will move from a felt (kinesthetic) movement experience to be explored and expanded. There will be lots of breathe awareness and an opportunity for gentle hands on approaches to a spacious alignment, full of beauty and grace. Be prepared for some deep listening to the rhythms of the the body and playful, spontaneous explosions of movement. 

 

Bring your curious self! Open to a new way of inhabiting your precious body. This class holds the space for nurturance in safety and trust.
