Subject: Guess Who's Back? Tucson Fringe Festival, that's who!

Did you think a pandemic could stop the Tucson Fringe Festival?

We are so proud to announce that we have recently awarded
TWENTY performing artists / groups almost
$7000 in grants
to create new works to share with the Tucson Fringe Community
in February 2021.

February 4 - 7th, 2021, Tucson Fringe will bring you seven livestream performances (two chances to see each show) as well as 13 pre-recorded shows on our YouTube channel. Performers are from 10 different states and 3 countries - this is stuff you won't see anywhere else!

HOW DO WE GET TICKETS?
First of all, tickets to all livestream, and access to all pre-recorded shows, is FREE!  That's right. FREE!  For the livestream shows, we'll have links for you to reserve a spot and get links to the live event - they'll be on our website around the first of the year.  For pre-recorded content, simply subscribe to our youtube channel to get notified when content is added.

IF TICKETS ARE FREE, HOW DO PERFORMERS GET PAID?
Usually, Tucson Fringe performers get 100% of their ticket revenue, but this year, each performer was awarded a grant of up to $500 in advance.

HOW DO WE FIND OUT ABOUT THE SHOWS?
Follow us on Facebook and Instagram - we'll be posting festival stats and show info all month long. Then in January our performers will each get a day to take over our social media accounts and tell you about their show. In addition, the last two weeks of the year, we'll be sharing teaser videos from each show on our social media and our YouTube channel.

DATES? TIMES? LINKS TO WATCH?
All of that info will be on our website. The show schedule will up soon, reservation links will be available by the 1st of the year and our digital program will be ready by mid-January, available on our website.

We are currently looking for a few people to offer tech support to our performers via zoom (stipended position) , as well as internships in Marketing and Social Media! Email tucsonfringe@gmail.com

Thank you so much for continuing to support performing arts
where ever and how ever they're happening in these strange times.

Tucson Improv Movement some fa la la la laughter this holiday season

Subject: The Yes And News 12/3/20🎁

We are excited to bring you some fa la la la laughter this holiday season, even if it is virtual.  We were hoping to do some masked up, in person shows this December, but with the steady rise in COVID cases in Tucson, we are holding off for a bit longer.

We are currently offering in person classes starting in January.  For these classes, we will be reducing the number of participants to 6 people, and following strict 6 feet social distancing at all times.  Everyone will be required to wear a mask, and with the lower number of students we are hoping to get through the classes within a shorter amount of time each week.  We are so excited to get back to teaching comedy in a safe, socially distant way, and hope to see you in our classes starting this January!

One of our Digital Edition Teams, the Stuck At Home Comedy Show, will be performing in The Very Normal Festival on Wednesday, December 9th at 8 pm.  You can watch the show on twitch.tv/countdownimprov. If you want to watch from within the Zoom room with the performers you can get a VIP ticket for $10.  It should be a fun show, and we would love to see your support at this national, virtual improv festival.

Trying to shop local this holiday season!?!? Check out the TIM Online Store on our website, and buy everyone on your good list some of our new TIM apparel!  Heck buy everyone on your naughty list some TIM appeal.  We are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel in getting back to opening our theater, but every little bit helps us make it through.  Hats, hoodies, baseball tees, oh my!

Our three-night, live and streamed performance of Antigone at the Border was a HUGE SUCCESS! On behalf of Borderlands Theater staff and artists and our collaborating partner, Teatro Bravo, we wish to share our profound gratitude for everyone that watched and for all the compliments and words of support for this timely project. Antigone at the Border is the quintessential medium and message for the moment we are in.

Here's what playwright and MacArthur genius Luis Alfaro (Electricidad, Oedipus el Rey, Mojada) had to say:

Bravo to Pinate for mixing the ancient Greek text with the ancient Meso-American, and our complicated history of the Americas, at the place where drama and political discourse collide... Leading the charge is a brilliantly reimagined Antigone as a Queer Chicana DACA recipient and Humanitarian Aid Worker leading the familial dynasty into a bloody discourse on loyalty and fate. We are at once roaming through the Arizona desert swept up in an epic tale of border life ... while Pinate uses the ancient Greek text as a launching point into a deeper examination and meditation on our own political strife.

... I call a jealousy foul on the use of drones to capture beautiful scenes in and out of the desert (no one told me we could use drones to create cool Zoom imagery!). I also loved the use of language here. You had me at Antigone's Spanglish declaration; "My huesos are tired", and a marvelous riff on liberation, "Brown people are stem cells… we can become weapons of change…"

Bravo to our colleagues in the Southwest who have never stopped being brave in their art making.

Don't miss your chance to see this ground breaking experience

of theatre, cinema, and digital media.

After December 23 it will be gone forever.

Brief Bio: Brian Trenchard-Smith

Brian Trenchard-Smith is an Anglo-Australian film and television director, producer, and writer, with a reputation for large scale movies on small scale budgets. Quentin Tarantino referred to him in Entertainment Weekly as his "favorite obscure director." His early work is featured in Not Quite Hollywood, an award-winning documentary released by Magnolia in August 2009.

Born in England, where his Australian father was in the RAF, Trenchard-Smith attended UK's prestigious Wellington College, where he neglected studies in favor of acting and making short films, before migrating to Australia. He started as a news film editor, then graduated to network promos before he became one of a group of young people that, as he recalls, "pushed, shoved, lobbied and bullied the government into introducing investment for Australian made films." He persuaded Australia's largest distribution-exhibition circuit at the time, the Greater Union Theater Organization, to form an in-house production company that he would run. The company made three successful films in a row, and his career was underway. In parallel careers, he was also founding editor of Australia's quarterly Movie magazine for 6 years, and has made over 100 trailers for other directors in Australia, Europe, and America.

Among early successes were The Man From Hong Kong, a wry James Bond/Chop Sockey cocktail, the Vietnam battle movie Siege Of Firebase Gloria, and the futuristic satire Dead End Drive-In, a particular Tarantino favorite. BMX Bandits, showcasing a 15-year old Nicole Kidman, won the Prix Chouette in Europe, as Best Saturday Matinee Movie. Miramax's The Quest/Frog Dreaming, starring ET's Henry Thomas, now on Blu Ray, won a prize at Montreal's Children's Film Festival. He has directed 43 episodes of television series as diverse as Silk Stalkings, Time Trax, Five Mile Creek, The Others, Flipper, Chemistry, and the Showtime docu-drama DC 9/11: Time Of Crisis, one of five movies he made for the network.

Among Trenchard-Smith's recent films are Long Lost Son, starring Gabrielle Anwar and Chace Crawford for Lifetime, and the family drama disaster movie Arctic Blast., starring Michael Shanks and Bruce Davison, which premiered on Spanish television as the number 1 movie with a 15.6 market share, and more than 2.5 million viewers. In Dublin he shot The Cabin, a rom-com starring Lea Thompson for the Hallmark Channel. He produced and directed Absolute Deception, a thriller starring Academy Award Winner Cuba Gooding Jr. Recently released through Image is Drive Hard, an offbeat action comedy with John Cusack as the bank robber and Thomas Jane as his reluctant driver.

His body of work has been honored at the Paris Cinema, Karlovy Vary, Melbourne, Brisbane and Toronto Film Festivals. In 2016 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Fantaspoa International Fantastic Film Festival. The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia recently hosted a three city retrospective of his films. He is a member of the Masters of Horror Circle, and is a contributing guru to Trailers From Hell. He is married to Byzantine historian Dr. Margaret Trenchard-Smith, and lives in Portland, Oregon.

His debut novel Alice Through The Multiverse was published in 2018. His new book Adventures in the B Movie Trade is now available on Amazon and Kindle.
