Winding Road Theater Ensemble presents Miss American Pie with opening night live-stream

From: Winding Road Theater Ensemble <windingroadte@gmail.com>

Subject: We're going to do WHAT?

Playwright Gwendolyn Rice with a tutorial on how to create your very own
Miss American Pie Smell-O-Vision experience!

Join us for Opening Night of Miss American Pie!

It's election night, November 2016. Amidst the exit polls and red and blue maps on TV, Maggie gets an urgent phone call from her friend Saiyna, a young photographer at the local newspaper. Rattled by the panic in Saiyna's message, Maggie decides to distract herself with a comforting ritual; she bakes a pie, while recalling specific moments from their friendship that revolve around food.

Part cooking show, part history lesson, Gwendolyn Rice's Miss American Pie leads the audience through each step of making a great apple pie, while recounting the little-known history of the lost colony at Roanoke, and examining America's history of hostility towards immigrants.

Miss Amerian Pie stars Ensemble Member Denise Blum, in a one-woman tour de force. Artistic Director Maria Caprile directs. See our YouTube channel for more clips from our exclusive interview with playwright Gwendolyn Rice!

Winding Road Theater is thrilled to be able to bring this original play to you online. Miss American Pie is a full production performed in a working kitchen, professionally lit and recorded. It is NOT a Zoom play.

There are two options for seeing the play:

Opening Night Only! Tune in Friday February 11th at 7:30 PM Mountain Time to watch a live-stream of our recorded production, followed by a live talk-back with the playwright, director, and cast! This will be an interactive experience, we look forward to hearing your impressions and questions!

Rent Video on Demand to watch Miss American Pie at your leisure, any time between February 12th through 27th. Run time for the show is approximately 90 minutes.

Arizona Arts Live presents CIRCA

CIRCA

SACRE

FEBRUARY 11, 2022

…THEIR EXPRESSIVENESS WAS AS MOVING AS IT WAS BREATHTAKING

-THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring has inspired dances and ballets for over 100 years, but never circus – until now. See the bodies of 10 fearless acrobats – highlighted by a technically and artistically stunning lighting design – hurl, twist, and collide in an electrifying explosion of physicality and power. These performances also feature a stirring new composition by Phillipe Bachman that pairs with Stravinsky’s classical music masterpiece. In this first-ever circus setting of The Rite of Spring, CIRCA weaves together powerful acrobatics with poetic tenderness and raw emotion – penetrating the senses and stirring the soul.

Seen by over one million people in 40 countries, the Australia-based performance troupe, CIRCA, is at the forefront of contemporary circus, leading the way with a diverse range of thrilling creations. Under the direction of circus visionary Yaron Lifschitz, CIRCA features an ensemble of exceptional, multi-skilled circus artists.  CIRCA is a regular fixture at leading festivals and venues in New York, London, Berlin, and Montreal with seasons at Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Barbican Centre, Les Nuits de Fourvière, Chamäleon Theatre as well as major Australian Festivals.

THE KREUTZER SONATA

by Nancy Harris

February 17 - March 19, 2022

In this stage adaptation of the 1890 novella, Nancy Harris brings Leo Tolstoy's wishes to fruition by presenting his story with music. When Marshal suspects his wife of having an affair with her music partner, he is consumed by jealousy and is driven to murder. Controversial upon its original publication, this work explores lust, passion and possessiveness, with Beethoven's timeless music heightening the joy and tragedy of such universal themes.

New AZ film incentives bill - join the mobilization list of the AZ Film & Digital Media Coalition

From: Film Tucson <pcatalanotte@visittucson.org>
Sent: Tuesday, February 1, 2022 12:07 PM
Subject: News from Film Tucson - February 2022

Films Bring Jobs. (And So Do Film Incentives.)

Fueled, in part, by the renewed uptick of high-profile, high-spend film and TV projects in our area a new AZ film incentives bill (SB1708) has just been introduced by Senator David Gowan of Legislative District 14.

If passed, this bill would give Arizona a chance to compete with other states already enjoying the lucrative economic benefits which film incentives bring to their region every day.

Right now would be a great time to join the mobilization list of the AZ Film & Digital Media Coalition (AFDMC).

Use the link above to enter your contact info after which AFDMC will send you urgent messages in the coming weeks regarding the bill's advancements and how you can show your support. Here are some talking points.

If you'd like to see more film projects come to our area, connect ASAP with AFDMC so you can get motivated and mobilized.

If you have questions about this message, call Film Tucson at 520.770.2172.
