Parking: Theatregoers may park in the Park Avenue Garage, located on Park Avenue just north of Speedway Blvd.  For weekday evening performances, you can pre-pay for parking.  Monday through Friday, 5 p.m. to midnight, take your parking ticket immediately to the garage cashier after parking.  Cashier is located on the east side of the main level.  Parking fee will be $3 (cash only).  After the performance, insert the parking ticket at the gate to exit.  Saturday and Sunday there is no charge to park.

Guest Director Andrew F. Holtz has a special connection to the musical, having grown up about four blocks from the home of Colonel C.G. Conn, the founder of Conn Band Instruments and the person upon whom Meredith Willson based Harold Hill.  Holtz's family history also makes "The Music Man" a natural fit.  His grandfather played in big bands and his great-grandfather, who knew C.G. Conn, played in John Philip Sousa's band and helped invent the sousaphone.

IMMENANT THREAT - Tucson Mayor and City Council may cut or eliminate all funding for Access Tucson TUESDAY!! Don’t let them take the community’s voice away!! FACTS: The economy is tanking, yet cable fees paid by Cox subscribers to the City of Tucson are not declining. These fees amount to $5,250,000 a year. They are not taxes although the City treats them as general fund income. Access Tucson funding from the City of Tucson went from $1,077,690 in 2008 to $897,921 in 2009. That was a funding decrease of 17%. As a result every budget category has been cut, staff has been laid off and all remaining staff will be sent home without pay for the month of June. Just to get through June! Access Tucson proposed to the City that significant money could be saved by co-locating their own government channel (Tucson 12) with Access Tucson to save on rent, equipment and some functions. At this point there are no signs that this is under consideration by the City. Future funding for Access Tucson is likely to be cut or eliminated for the fiscal year starting July 1st. The City Manager has asked the Mayor and City Council to cut the budget group Access Tucson is in (called "outside agencies") by $4,000,000 or about 28%. An additional 28% cut to Access Tucson would mean the elimination of many more staff and a dramatic reduction of services. A larger cut might mean that Access Tucson would no longer be able to provide its services to the community at all. You can help! Your voice does count! This is a short film that is set entirely to one track of music by a former popular band in Phoenix, AZ called "The Bodhi Tree". It's a story about a man accepting his own death and is loosely based on a piece of artwork by Rob Dobi and inspired by "The Coma" by Alex Garland.

We will be submitting this film to as many festivals as we can.

LOGLINE: While traveling home with a sacred gift, Graves is caught in a series of unfortunate events, which wash his plans down the gutter. To his dismay, Graves finds himself unable to return for his important engagement. When he escapes, he soon realizes that the world around him has become different.

Graves - MALE / 20 TO 30
There is no dialogue in this movie, so this part ESPECIALLY should be able to act very subtle and powerful to communicate feeling without making it cheesy.

Comfort - FEMALE / 20 TO 30
Graves' widow who is pregnant when Graves visits. It would be preferred if the actress is willing to change hair color/style, but not required.

Driver - FEMALE / 18 TO 25
A clumsy driver that hits Graves while putting on make-up while driving. College look.

Man walking Dog - MALE / 18 TO 60
A man who walks a dog. It's preferred if you already have a dog that can bark on command.

Paramedic - MALE OR FEMALE / 20-35
Paramedic who helps Graves after he is first hit by the car

Nurse - FEMALE / 20 TO 40
Nurse who helps Graves after he is hit by the car.

Doctor - MALE / 30 TO 50
Doctor who is hit with blood by one of Graves' wounds.

Wraith - MALE / 20 TO 50
BIG guy. At least 6'5". A mean looking guy who is also dead and can see Graves. He ends up attacking Graves outside of the hospital.

Child - MALE OR FEMALE / 5 TO 10
Graves future child.

Since we are a new, small company, there is no pay, but you will get a DVD as well as exposure at festivals.

Tucson: problem with recent posting for Feature Film

Dear TTA List Members,

 

A recent posting for “SPANISH MEN AND WOMEN, RUGGED ROUGH TYPES” elicited an email from a long-time, respect TTA List member, who had some difficulty with the production company posting the call on CraigsList.  If anyone else has had a similar problem with this production company, please let me know.  I’d rather not fill up your email boxes with bad leads. 

 

Here is part of what the TTA List member told me:

 

“8 of us had shown up Friday night for a night shoot, and not one member of the production team came in to talk to us - The people at the TTT truckstop finally told us (after we waited around for an hour) that the crew had said they were tired and had packed up and left - apparently without remembering the actors in the diner who had responded to a 10:00 PM call time! … We all tried to reach the one person whose cell # we had, but her mailbox was full! ”

Mr. Bennett is an award winning actor, director and instructor of the Stanislavski System of Acting. He is a founding member of the American Stanislavski Theatre (AST) in New York City and a protégé of Russian émigré teacher and director, Sonia Moore. Phil served as the Assistant Artistic Director of AST where he was both an actor and instructor.

 

In 1976, he founded the San Francisco Theatre Academy at Fort Mason, and subsequently the Bennett Theatre Lab, an avant-garde actor training company. Internationally acknowledged for his expertise in both classical and contemporary theatre, he lectures and conducts workshops at prominent universities and conventions. Graduates appear regularly in films, on television and the professional stage.

The Feature-Length Film "It Sounds so Simple", a CalGav Prodution, is starting their production this weekend and we will be needing several extras and featured extra's throughout the rest of March and April.  Our shooting schedule is Fri. evenings, Saturday and Sunday's, and Monday days'.  If you may be available during one or some of those days, please reply to rosiezwaduk@gmail.com with a picture and your phone number.  :)  (Headshots aren't required--snapshots would be fine.  :)

 

18-29 years old:  mostly "party" and "nightlife" scenes.

Eddie - early 30's, an inventor, desperate to "make it" with his ideas - rough-edged, high-energy, endearing yet head-strong.

Alita - early 30's, Eddie's wife, a singer, questioning how much she wants to "make it" with her music over starting a family.

Leonardo Da Vinci - middle 50's to 60, 15th Century inventor/ painter, a wise-fool apparition in Eddie's mind.

Quentin Herubay - mid 40's, a potential investor.

Doubling Parts:

Sean / Debt Collector - mid 20's - Eddie's son / also a collector.

Nurse / C.J. Harper / Mrs. Zarmon's Voice - middle 30's.

I am STILL looking for at least one more woman who can convincingly play a character of child-bearing age for a production of IN THE SHADOW OF MY SON.  I am looking for a theatre actor, unfortunately not movie extras or day players.  This is a intense piece of drama that demands an actor with some serious chops.

 

There is a stipend of $150 for 3 performances (April 16, May 11 and May 14). Rehearsals will begin as soon as I can complete casting so we are ready for the staged reading on April 16, then the full performances in May.  Rehearsal will be at St. Joe's hospital.

 

An audition is scheduled in the Auditorium of St. Joseph's Hospital on TUESDAY  March 17 from 5 - 7pm.  Please call to schedule an appointment: 760-2434 or email say_rah@yahoo. com. 

If you have already auditioned, you do not need to come again - I will let you know who I cast as soon as I am able.  Thank you for your patience.

Directions:  Enter hospital complex area at the traffic light at the corner of Carondelet Drive and N. Wilmot Rd. (between Speedway and Broadway). Park in the multi level structure near the front door (it is free).  Ask the receptionist where the auditorium is OR simply take the elevator down one flight to the basement. The auditorium is a big empty room next to the kitchen

The Great American Trailer Park Musical to be presented in Green Valley 

 

            There is a theatrical treat at the end of April. Santa Cruz Shoestring Players are stepping out – out to the trailer park!  Talented local players from Arivaca, Vail, Green Valley and Sahuarita present a delightfully trashy, totally fun production of “The Great American Trailer Park Musical.”  This 2005 off-Broadway show brought the house down, and will rock the walls of the new theatre at the Pima County Community Performing Arts Center in Green Valley, too.

 

            Start with a unique trio of babes in Armadillo Acres, South Florida's “most exclusive trailer park” who rock’n’roll you through the show; add a very dull toll collector and his agoraphobic wife in trailer #79. Then throw in a stripper running away from her ex- boyfriend who is out for revenge and ….. a hurricane? And 14 songs.  Road kill and Rock’n’Roll!  Flashbacks and flirting. Babes and the blues!  Dishing about the neighbors and Disco.  The New York Times calls it, “A bright new show!”  This show is “funny, funny, funny. Loud, loud, loud.
