Kayner's plays have won numerous awards and been produced to full houses and positive reviews. Thumbs – 'the best theater I (have) witnessed' – S. Gibson. Noche – 'a brilliant schematic' (Citizen) and 'lyrically written' (Star). Hokey Pokey – 'powerful…clever and witty'. Flowers – 'The Language of Flowers is an eminently satisfying work from both an intellectual and an emotional point of view.' Eric Marshese LA. Etc.
Cast
BENNY: A quirky earnest young man in his early 20's. He's driven to be a superhero like those he reads about in his comic books. As a result, Benny invents different characters, dons ad-hoc costumes and patrols the streets attempting to fight crime. This fantasy ambition is fueled – on the surface by practicality, but in reality by the terror of his past. Benny is all unintentional pratfalls and slapstick and childlike sincerity.

TILLY: A spunky New Yorker in her early twenties. Like Benny, Tilly has a beguiling dichotomous character: naïve and street-wise by turns. She is saving her money and taking swimming and yoga lessons to realize her dream of becoming a mermaid in a Florida amusement park. She's a big fan of the romantic movies from the 30's, 40's and 50's. Tilly dreams of whales, but sleeps with demons.

ABE: A crusty bitter Jew in his mid-fifties and older who knew the, yes, horror of Nazi Germany and the terrorism of Joe McCarthy. Of course, he became a comedy writer. A blacklisted and forgotten comedy writer. He's quick with a line and broken in so many ways it's difficult to believe he'll recover. For Abe – redemption is a joke.

NATE: A man well into middle-age who could'a been somebody – but alcoholism and family obligations conspired to keep him where he is – the owner of a neighborhood bar called Stout House. The bar and Nate are haunted by a vicious murder that took place there. He's looking to escape Stout House and his guilt.

VON: A socially inept and repressed young man (20's – 30's)so tightly strung it's only a matter of time before he snaps. When he does, there's going to be one hell of a mess.
Contact - 297-3317 – Gavin Kayner and/or Norma Montano.

Audition - male actor - A Midsummer Night's Dream at St. Francis Theatre

From: David Goguen [mailto:theplaysthethingdg@gmail.com]
Sent: Friday, July 18, 2014 10:41 PM
Subject: Announcement for A Midsummer Night's Dream at St. Francis Theatre

St. Francis Theatre is looking for a male actor to play the part of Demetrius for our September performances of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Age: 17 to mid thirties should play as if in twenties.

Please respond with bio, if available, and times available to audition.

A Midsummer Night's Dream is one of Shakespeare's most beloved and entertaining plays. It depicts the events surrounding the marriage of the Duke of Athens, the madcap romantic escapades of four young lovers and the efforts of six inept amateur actors as they seek to achieve fame.  These characters are helped or hindered (or both) by a group of fairies from the forest.  This lighthearted comedy will, for the most part, retain William Shakespeare's brilliant original language but will be set in modern times to enhance relevancy and comedic opportunities.  Prior classical/Shakespearian experience is not required.  Performance dates are September 12th through September 21st.

St. Francis Theatre has provided a wide variety of theatrical entertainment to a loyal following for over 20 years.  We specialize in offering a quality theatre experience in an intimate setting at an affordable price.  St Francis Theatre is located at 4625 E. River Rd.  Tucson AZ 85718

August 2014 Discount on Comedy Improv at The Studio for Actors

Sent: Friday, July 18, 2014 10:41 AM
Subject: Announcement: August 2014 Discount on Comedy Improv at The Studio for Actors

Taste of Improv Class

The Studio for Actors is now offering a "Taste of Improv Class." Here's how it works. Just come on one Wednesday night from 6:30pm-8:00pm for only $30. This class is normally $40, but for the evenings of August 6 or August 20, you can attend for $30 for one class only, and see how much you love studying improv at The Studio. So, if you've always wondered (or if you've never wondered) if you would enjoy comedy improv, this is your chance to check it out.

Call (520) 881-2363 to sign up.  To qualify for the discounted price, you must say the words "Taste of Improv Class" when you call.

* Limit one $30 class per person.

Comedy Improvisation

You don't have to be a funny person to love and get a lot out of a comedy improv class. I can make you funny. Because you have to focus in this class, you can end up both taking a vacation from the stuff that goes on in your life, and there's a lot of healing with laughter. Your coach is a former Saturday Night Live cast member, and will give you the accents and the formats you can use as a "safety net." Improv is a great stress reliever and really encourages the ability to verbally communicate. So, come, play, have a ball, and enjoy releasing your own special creativity.

Also, for students of acting, improv enhances your auditions, loosens up the body, helps you think fast on your feet, introduces dialects, and sharpens your timing.4 consecutive Wednesday nights

6:30pm-8:00pm
Start on any Wednesday (but you must call first to sign up).
$40 per week

CYT presents HAIRSPRAY JR

CYT presents HAIRSPRAY JR

Good morning, Baltimore! It's 1962, and spunky plus-size teen Tracy Turnblad has one big dream -- to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show. When she finally gets her shot, she's transformed from social outcast to sudden star. In balancing her new-found power with her desire for justice, Tracy fights to dethrone the reigning Miss Teen Hairspray, Amber von Tussle, and integrate a TV network in the process. With the help of her outsized mom, Edna, and guest DJ Motormouth Maybelle, the rhythm of Tracy's new beat just might prove unstoppable -  HAIRSPRAY JR is a show that will celebrate our students' diversity and bring you to your feet with its positive message and uproarious sense of humor.
