The Invisible Theatre continues its 48^th Anniversary Season with ZERO HOUR. This not-to-be-missed theatrical event is set in theatre legend Zero Mostel's painting studio, a naive reporter attempts to interview the famously volatile artist, prompting an explosion of memory, humor, outrage and juicy backstage lore. Mostel is remembered for his comedic genius, but in the 1950's he was equally known for his place on the infamous Hollywood blacklist. Zero Mostel is brought back to the stage in this volcanic tour-de-force.

Tucson Fringe 2019 brings with it some exciting new events that are going to make our 8th festival the biggest and best yet. We'd like to start by thanking TUCSON IMPROV MOVEMENT, our newest venue, for hosting us after the unfortunate closing of Cans Deli.  They're proving to be a most gracious host and we can't wait to see where this partnership goes.

Beginning January 11, 2019, Roadrunner Theatre Company will extend its repertoire into classic drama with Tennessee Williams' Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for drama, the play's themes of death, deceit and desire are as timeless now as when Williams wrote 60 years ago. A "masterpiece of marital, familial and sexual dysfunction" Cat hurtles its audience into a steamy southern night as the Pollitt family gathers to celebrate its dying patriarch's 65th birthday — and fight for control of the biggest plantation in the Mississippi delta.

 

Cat has some of the most iconic characters in American theater: Maggie the Cat herself, captive to a passionless marriage and unable to produce the child that would secure her inheritance; Maggie's husband Brick, a former football hero desperate for daily alcoholic refuge from his own sexual ambiguity; family head Big Daddy, dying of cancer and raging against the dying of his light; and Big Mama, ready after a lifetime of humiliated subservience to assert her own familial dominance.

 

Director Mark Klugheit notes that Williams' extraordinary script and the opportunity to portray these singular characters drew some of Tucson's best known stage actors to Roadrunner's intimate venue. Watching up close as Cynthia Jeffery, Roger Owen, Robert Anthony Peters and Sara Jackson and the rest of his cast give life to Williams' exquisite words, Klugheit promises, will be an experience not easily forgotten. 

 

In another first for Roadrunner, performances will be at two locations: at Roadrunner Theatre, 8892 East Tanque Verde Road (Jan. 11-12, 18-19 and Feb. 1-2 at 7:00 pm and Jan. 13, 20 and Feb. 3 at 2:00 pm); and at the Temple of Music and Art Cabaret, 330 S. Scott Avenue (Jan. 24-26 at 7:30 pm and Jan. 26-27 at 2:30 pm).

Have you or anyone you know thought about taking an improv class, but weren't sure if it was right for you? Well, now's your chance to get a sample of what our classes are like, and have some fun!

 

On Saturday, December 22 from 2pm to 5pm, we will be having an "Improv Appetizer" workshop for people 18 years of age or older at Unscrewed Theater. Each workshop fee of $15 includes a free ticket to ANY Unscrewed Theater show.

 

We'll start with some warm-up exercises, learn the basic rules of improv and play some really fun games! You'll be able to get a great feel for what and how we teach.

 

It will be a really fun morning taught by at least one of our amazing improv instructors. You can even purchase this workshop as a gift for someone who loves to laugh!

Developing their writing and performance they worked for 16 weeks with instructor apprentices Eva Sierra and Leo Herrera under the mentorship of instructors Logan Phillips, Sarah Gonzales and theater instructors Marc David Pinate and Milta Ortiz.
