Community Players Announce Winners In Second Annual New One Act Play Festival

Tucson, AZ (May 25, 2017) - The Community Players, Tucson's premier community theatre company, have announced the winners of the Second Annual New One Act Play Festival, a yearly event where playwrights from the state of Arizona submit their never published, never produced one act plays, which are then scored by a panel of judges. The plays are judged on 4 criteria: Plot, Character Development, Dialog and Overall Writing Quality. The top three scoring plays are then rehearsed, staged and produced as the final show of The Community Players season. "The caliber of playwrights that we have, not only in Tucson, but statewide, is amazing", says Scott Berg, president of the board of directors. "The judges really had their work cut out for them. Each play is so different and have elements that one judge may favor and another may not. It really is a daunting task for the judges."

The winners of The Second Annual New One Act Play Festival are:

Vince Flynn for his play "Dealing With It". This is Vince's second time as a winner, having won the honors last year.

Carl Damhesal for his play "A Good Cradle Doesn't Wobble"

Richard Thompson for his play "Last Call"

"Playwrights in Tucson have so few outlets for their work" continued Berg, "We hope, with this becoming an annual event, that Tucsonans will begin to appreciate and support these truly gifted, talented individuals. They deserve more than we can give, and hopefully, our event can be a stepping stone to bigger and better things."

The New One Act Play Festival will run July 14-30, 2017. Shows are on Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2:00pm. The Community Playhouse is located at 1881 N. Oracle Rd.
