Position Announcement: The historic Fox Tucson Theatre is seeking an organized, creative, performing arts production professional with a can-do approach to join our team in the role of
Production Stage Manager at an exciting time of renewal and reopening, as we launch the 2021-
22 Return to the Fox season of shows at the heart of Tucson’s vibrant downtown.

Position Overview
The Fox’s Production Stage Manager (PSM) is responsible for the safe and successful production and technical execution of all live events taking place at the Fox Tucson Theatre. The
PSM will assist the Director of Facilities and Production in the “advance” of upcoming shows, as well as managing technical aspects of theatre facilities, including event load-ins, set-ups, strikes, and use of the facility’s sound, lighting, stage, projection, rigging, and other theatrical equipment and systems. The PSM ensures that all technical aspects of touring, rental, and locally produced works run smoothly and safely.

Requirements
Minimum 3 years work experience in a performing arts presenting/producing organization. Two years supervisory experience in technical theatre, facilities management, or related field preferred. Bachelor’s degree in theatre, performance, music, or related field; or equivalent.

Schedule and Start Date
Full-time. Schedule is determined by production schedule, with evening, weekends, as well as early and late call times required. Desired start date no later than July 5.

Compensation: $46,020 - $55,120 annually; $885 - $1,060/week; plus health, paid time off, and other benefits.

PRODUCTION STAGE MANAGER
FULL JOB DESCRIPTION

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Organize, schedule, manage, and train stagehands (from third party vendors or other sources), including tracking crew work hours.
  • Effectively communicates all pertinent technical information to all end users and Fox

Theatre staff.

  • Act as primary venue point of contact for all technical matters on day of show from load in until load out is completed.
  • Ensure safety standards are met and local, state, and federal guidelines are followed.
  • In consultation with DPF and end users (renters etc.) create day of show schedule for all technical areas including staffing, rehearsals, and load in and out times.
  • Interact with facility users (including renters, co-promoters, etc.) in the planning, coordination, and execution of programs, services and events.
  • Oversee the load-in, set up, and strike of theatrical lighting, sound, and overall stage set up for a variety of productions and events including nationally renowned musical acts, touring and local theatrical productions, and other presentations and productions.
  • Be able to fill a working position on the crew when needed; Fly Op, Board Op, etc.
  • Build and maintain effective and proactive working relationships with local vendors and production companies.
  • Other responsibilities as requested, as part of a positive and productive team pursuing the best for those we serve.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Sufficient education, training and/or work experience to apply thorough understanding of theatre equipment, including but not limited to lighting systems, digital and analog sound systems, automated rigging systems, digital cinema/video equipment (experience with

35mm film projection is desirable). Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Ability to work independently and follow through on projects with minimal direction.
  • Ability to read, interpret and implement stage plots, light plots, sound plots, and blueprints; and ability to read technical riders and performance contracts, and assess requirements for staffing, budgets and/or design.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and legal codes for local, state, OSHA, and other federal guidelines is required.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and events software, with ability to learn new software.

Experience with Vectorworks and/or CAD desirable.

  • Ability to lead and motivate a team and set and model standards of excellence.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and project management skills.
  • Broad understanding of all aspects of technical theater, music production, and stage management.
  • Basic principles and practices of personnel management.
  • Knowledge of materials, staffing, supplies, and equipment needed for performance events.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to resolve problems with diplomacy, and to act decisively in the face of unplanned situations while remaining calm.
  • Able to work safely around power tools, on ladders and lifts, and around electricity.
  • Hands-on work with various crews may be required.
  • Able to lift 40 pounds or more.
  • Some supervisory/managerial experience is preferred.
