Improvisation 101

September 8th - October 20th, 2021

Improve your ability to run and manage your work related meetings and peer interactions with our fast paced, fun, and educational improvisation classes.  Build confidence in yourself, learn to broaden your friendships, conquer your fears, and become an excellent listener, who is able to pick up on other’s cues and act on them.  For the actor, there is no better way of challenging your training than by pushing the boundaries of comfort. Improvisation will strengthen your character work, writing skills, enhance spontaneity, and listening skills.

 

Scene Study and Technique

September 7th - October 28th, 2021

For the student actor and lifelong lover of the arts.  Strengthen your skills as an actor by digging deeper into yourself, and the text, by various sensory technique exercises and direct, concrete feedback from your teacher and classmates in your scene work.  Scenes are from contemporary and classical selections chosen by the student, or the teacher, on the first day of the workshop.  Learn what it means to tap into our personal humanity in order to add depth and complexity to the text.  Tuesday’s will be sensory work that will be used in the scene study work on Thursday’s. 

 

Professional Public Speaking

Improve your public speaking abilities by working with memorized text, personal presentations, and performing in front of peers.  This class will help you build the confidence in yourself to speak in any public event from company meetings to large scale conferences.

 

Tap Dance for Beginners

September 12th - October 3rd • October 10th - 31st, 2021

An ideal class for beginners, this class is for the student who wishes to improve rhythm and musicality while learning and developing basic tap technique.  Explore tap styles from different time periods.

 

Dance for Musical Theatre

September 12th - October 3rd • October 10th - 31st, 2021

Learn the basic steps needed for most all musical theatre needs.  We will incorporate tap, modern jazz, elements of ballet and contemporary dance.  No prior experience is necessary.

 

Acting for the Beginner

In this introductory drama class learn the basics you need to perform on stage.  Starting with rules of the stage and moving through pantomime into improvisation work.  The students will learn confidence in decision making, skills in collaborative problem solving, and gain a deeper understanding of the joy that performing provides.

 

The Song Within You Workshop

September 18th or 25th, October 2nd, 6th, 16th, or 23rd, 2021

All music must start from a place of resonance and connection for both the character and the performer. In this workshop performers will analyze and develop character history, delve into the needs and wants for the character, and strengthen their abilities to make clear and concrete choices for their character.  The song will first be worked on as a spoken monologue, then all the work will be combined for a final singing performance for feedback from the guest artist.  Take once - or multiple times to prepare for an audition or other performance!

 

Prerequisite: Participants must have a song from an established musical memorized and rehearsed prior to attending the workshop.

 

Dia de los Muertos Mask Workshop

October 1st, 8th,15th, 22nd, and/or 30th, 2021

This weekly workshop will expose you to the rich artistic imagery of Mexico’s holiday honoring the souls of lost loved ones. Celebrated in Tucson with the annual All Souls Procession you will be equipped to walk in the parade on Sunday, November 7th, with your very own mask, or have a lovely piece of folk art to hang on your wall. Each weekly class produces 1 mask. Take one class or all five!  All supplies included.

 

Puppet Shows

November 5th, 12th, 19th and/or December 3rd, 10th, 17th, 2021

Come and learn about the art of puppetry. You will perform with puppets, paint backdrops for the puppet stage, and even write your own story. Each week will be a new story written for you and highlighting something rich about the natural beauty of our desert. Attend one or all six!  Our last week will be a ‘special’ Christmas show for family and friends to attend.
