We may have the perfect opportunity for you to realize your dream.
Old Pueblo Playwrights presents a New Play Festival at least once a year. These plays are written by our members and have yet to be viewed by a live audience. Some of our works are as short as ten minutes while others are full length two act plays with intermission.
OPP has a New Play Festival scheduled for April 2 – 7, 2024. The festival will run for three nights and four days with staged readings of our plays on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights and at two matinees on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Each play will get a single performance, usually book in hand, after only a few rehearsals. Staged readings present special challenges for directors.
We are seeking directors to bring their creative genius to our processs and make the most of the words we have written down. We are having a ZOOM meeting with anyone interested in directing to put them in touch with our playwrights. Novices will assist seasoned directors to give them the experience they will need to direct a play by themselves at subsequent festivals.
You might know that our festivals traditionally have provided small honorariums to actors and directors who work with us. The honorarium for a director is fifty to one hundred dollars, typically depending on the play's length.
