The Latest with Linda: Production Insights

Have you ever noticed the mysterious people dressed all in black, quietly moving around during a theater production?

As the Production Stage Manager for IT, I'm one of those people! Once a show has opened, you'll most likely find me in the control booth at the back of the theater. That's where I call the cues to make the lights, sound, video, and projections happen at just the right moment. If I do my job well, you won't even notice I'm there.

During rehearsals, I sit next to the director, taking detailed notes on every aspect of the production to share with the set, costume, lighting, and sound designers. Live theater is a team effort, and a big part of my role is making sure everyone stays organized and has the information they need to do their jobs.

I joined the IT staff a year ago, and I'm living proof that it's never too late to follow your dreams. I did a lot of theater in high school and college—where I discovered how much I enjoyed stage management—but ultimately pursued a different path, becoming an archaeologist. I spent 25 years with the Tucson-based nonprofit Archaeology Southwest.

About three years ago, as I began thinking about retirement, I returned to the world of theater, stage managing for local Tucson companies. That experience led me to my current position here at IT. It's truly a dream job, and I feel so fortunate to have found a home in Tucson's vibrant theater community.
