Tucson: Beowulf Alley Theatre Immediately Seeking Backstage Crew for Arcadia by Tom Stoppard

 

Beowulf Alley Theatre Company (www.beowulfalley.org) is seeking backstage crew for Arcadia by Tom Stoppard. One position is available. The director is Dave Sewell. We are seeking people who are 16-years and older and are willing to train technicians if the applicant possesses a strong work ethic and a passion for learning more about theatre. Beowulf Alley Theatre Company is primarily a volunteer theatre but a stipend is offered to assist with transportation costs.

Information about Arcadia:

This play, in rehearsal now with a cast of twelve,  takes place in 1809 and the present. Technical rehearsals will begin around March 12. Performances run Thursday-Saturday evenings and Sunday matinees, March 20^th -April 13^th.

Positions needed are:

Stage Crew (1 position) – Needed immediately and continuing through the strike of the show on April 13, the crew would be present at tech rehearsals and each performance.

A good, clean, prime-time variety show on Access Tucson is seeking volunteers to work on the crew and in support roles. We generally go live twice a month and sometimes just once. We alternate musical entertainment by local artists with discussion about social and environmental matters. We can use help in all areas of live studio production, namely directing (both technical and floor), camera operation, audio, and lighting. Arts for All, Inc., a non-profit corporation, began in 1979. In August of 1985, Third St. Kids was founded by Marcia Berger, an innovative pediatric physical therapist, to provide an after-school program in the performing arts for children with and without disabilities. In 1986 the non-profit corporation was turned over to Marcia Berger by its founder and thus Arts for All, Inc. and Third St. Kids became one.

The students, ages 3 through adulthood, come from throughout the greater Tucson, Arizona area. All aspects of the program exemplify integration for children with and without disabilities. Arts for All, Inc. currently provides special considerations during the planning and programming for persons with physical disabilities, visual limitations, hearing impairments, learning disabilities, cognitive limitations, emotional disturbances, mental illness, behavior problems, autism, and seizure disorders. All programs attempt to provide a quality art focus for children and youth with and without disabilities.

Arts for All, Inc. currently has ten projects which merge the arts and human services: preschool, daily after-school classes, Third St. Ensemble Company, community-wide public performances, summer/winter arts camps, Arts for All Presents, day program for adults with disabilities, support services, inclusion aides training and AmeriCorps.

Production Director Requirements:

1. Minimum of one (1) years teaching drama
2. Minimum of two (2) years working with children and/or persons with disabilities
3. High school graduate
4. Demonstrate good communication skills both written and verbally, preferably in more than one language
5. Excellent people skills
6. Must receive Fingerprint clearance card within 60 days of hire
7. Receive certification in CPR, First Aid, CIT I, CIT II, and Article IX within 60 days of date of hire.

Ensemble Company Coordinator and Director Duties:

1. Responsible to Executive Director
2. Must be able to demonstrate and teach various aspects of the performing arts
3. Be able to encourage participants to explore different performing arts activities
4. Encourage creativity and self expression among participants.

Bisbee's Obscure Productions Presents "My Blue Heaven"

Bisbee's Obscure Productions will open the romantic comedy of a "different color," "My Blue Heaven" by Jane Chambers, on Friday, March 21, 2008 at the Bisbee Woman's Club, 7 Ledge Avenue in Old Bisbee. 

"My Blue Heaven" features the old song but is not based on the musical of the same name.  It's the story of a young couple that has moved to the country trying to pursue their creative dreams and free themselves from the society that oppresses them.  The dream runs into trouble, though, when they realize that the oppressive society also "provided them with central heating and a toilet that flushes" -- just one of the many twists that make this a good fit for a play produced in Bisbee.  Comedy ensues as the couple looks for ways to find a windfall that will make their dreams come true while allowing them to be true to their ideals and to each other.  The play does contain mature themes and language.

Rae E. Jones, the "obscure" part of Bisbee's Obscure Productions directs. The cast features talented BOP veterans Fiona Lillard and Christa Smith and the very funny and most welcome BOP newcomer Cobban Barnett.  These actors have real chemistry and great comic timing among them, and Cobban's chicken sound effects alone are worth the price of admission.

"My Blue Heaven" will play Fridays and Saturdays, March 21, 22, 28 and 29 at 7:30 pm with a Sunday matinee at 3:00 pm on March 23.  Tickets are $10 in advance at Atalanta's Music & Books, Bisbee Food Coop and Bisbee Visitors Center and by mail from BOP at P. O. Box 277, Bisbee, AZ  85603. They will be $12 at the door.

The Red Barn Theatre Company presents "The Odd Couple." This hilarious play by Neil Simon is the story of two divorced men who share an apartment - one a slob, the other a neat freak. This hit broadway play was then a movie and finally a tv series.  Follow the adventures of Oscar and Felix and their hilarious antics. The show opens Friday March 7 and will run for 3 weekends. Friday and Saturday shows are at 8 PM, Sunday matinees at 2 PM. (No performance on Sunday March 23) Tickets are $12 adults and $10 seniors/students. The Red Barn Theater is located at 948 N. Main (1 block south of speedway on main). For ticket reservations please call the theater at 622-6973.

Subject: Auditions for "My Fair Lady"

 

The Red Barn Theatre Company is holding auditions for "My Fair Lady". Auditions will be on Monday March 10 and Tuesday March 11 from 7-9 PM.  Please bring something to sing, an accompanist will be provided. Also be prepared with a monologue or to do a cold read from the script. Auditions are at the Red Barn Theater 948 N. Main (1 block south of Speedway on Main) The show will open in May and run for three weekends. Call the theater for further information 622-6973.
