(Tucson, AZ – Jan. 20, 2009) Beowulf Alley Theatre Company is holding auditions for its late night theatre series. Auditions will take place at 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21 and at noon until 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at the theatre, 11 South 6^th Ave, Downtown between Broadway and Congress . Performance will be February 20-22 and February 27-28.

 

We are seeking a variety of actors:

·         Males who can play characters 20-40s

·         Female actors who can play characters in their 20s-30s

 

There are three plays under consideration. One play is a musical so plan to come to sing any piece you want – a capella.

 

There is no nudity involved. We’re building a late night program at Beowulf Alley and want actors who are interested in newer, contemporary plays with an edge. Sets, props and costumes are minimal and performances are 10:30 to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays and 7:30 on Sundays in conjunction with our mail stage schedule for now. Rehearsals are scheduled according to availability of the director, cast and crew. We invite you all to get involved. What you lack in pay will be made up in creativity, collaboration and FUN! We are also building a planning committee for late night activities so if you have ideas or want to get involved, let us know. Turn your volunteer time into play time!

Reel Inspiration is hosting a directing workshop March 21-22 with master directing instructor Mark Travis on "Working with Actors in Rehearsal, Staging and Performance." Day 1, Mark will lecture and demonstrate with 3-4 actors the Travis Technique as a powerful tool to explore the characters within the actors. Day 2, pre-selected directors will be coached as they direct two-actor scenes while being observed by an audience of directors and actors.
 

Mark is the author of the Best Seller, THE DIRECTOR’S JOURNEY: the Creative Collaboration between Directors, Writers and Actors as well as DIRECTING FEATURE FILMS. Mark has shared his techniques at The Directors Guild, American Film Institute, Pixar Animations Studios, UCLA Extension, and workshops around the world. Mark is a creative consultant to film directors Mark Rydell, George Tillman, Cyrus Nowrasteh, among others. 

The weekend intensive directing workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on March 21-22 at Artfare, downtown Tucson, AZ. "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" is a Miramax Films, feature Film produced by Guillermo Del Toro and Mark Johnson. Directed by Troy Nixey and written by Guillermo Del Toroa and Matthew Robbins. The film is based on the teleplay by Nigel McKeand.

Role:

SALLY HURST - LEAD. Female child, 8 to 12 years old, bright, and mature for her age. Sally is a bit serious and even sad. Sally lives with her Mom in California but is heading to New England to spend time with her father. Having not spent much time with him their relationship is strained and the presence of his girlfriend seems to complicate things. Her father lives in the old Blackwood Mansion, which he is restoring, and shortly after arriving Sally discovers a secret room with mysterious inhabitants. [please note: Sally is scripted as 8 years. Anyone older should play younger than they are.]

Actor and Actress needed for two scenes in feature length outrageous comedy.

Actress needs to appear sixteen, white, Blond hair, blue eyes, average build, between 5'3" and 5'7". Her character plays a rebellious teen who grows up to be a rough and tough, bank robbing biker girl.

Actor needs to look Latino, between thirty five and forty five, out of shape, not "MR. G.Q." to play the mean step-dad.

Tryouts for both parts will be held this Friday and the following Thursday, January 16th and January 22nd, from 7:00 P.M to 9:00 P.M. both days.

Potential shooting dates are between thirty and sixty days from now.

Stories that Soar! will serve a delicious feast of stories to Desert Willow students and their friends from Navojoa, Mexico

On Thursday, January 29^th at Desert Willow Elementary, Stories that Soar! will return with an original show, created from some of the wonderful stories that the children have “fed” to the Magic Box. The hour long, variety style show will include dance, acrobatics, music, comedy, drama, amazing feats of imagination and a confetti filled author recognition.   

 

Through their involvement with Stories that Soar!, children understand that their ideas have the power to make change. Our process involves having them write down their original ideas in a format that can be shared with others. We then develop their stories into something that teaches, entertains and positively impacts the entire school community. They understand the connection between their stories and the performance they see, and that they all have this power, regardless of age, race, physical or academic ability.

 

Liz Bradshaw, Vail District Educational Enrichment Coordinator, participates in “Hands Across the Border” where students from the district engage in an exchange program with students from Navojoa, Mexico. The children from Mexico have sent stories to the Magic Box and they will be in Tucson during the performance, thus adding a unique cultural dimension to the show. Soon after, the students from Tucson will travel to Navojoa to practice their Spanish, attend school for a few days and learn more about the culture.

 

This performance has been made possible by the generosity of the Vail Education Foundation, Ward 4 Council member Shirley Scott, as well as in-school efforts, and by STS! grant funders: Arizona Commission on the Arts, Tucson-Pima Arts Council, Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, Target Foundation and the Stocker Foundation.

Waypoint Theatre Company, southern Arizona’s faith-based live theatre organization,

is serving up generous portions of laughter and romance with SEASONS OF LOVE—a delicious dessert theatre sprinkled with love and music to stir the soul!  Five performances only Thursday, February 12 through Sunday, February 15 at Waypoint’s new performing venue at Atria Bell Court Garden’s Academy Hall, northeast of St. Joseph’s Medical Center- 6653 E. Carondelet.

 

Sketches include Anton Chekhov’s THE  PROPOSAL about a hypochondriac who tries to muster up courage to propose to the lady of his dreams; TONIGHT’S THE NITE takes a positive peek into teen love; LOVE, OCTOGENARIAN STYLE explores the father/son relationship when the elder widower seeks his son’s wedding blessing. 

Two additional sketches are taken from Robert Fulghum’s best selling novel,

All I Really Know I Learned In Kindergarten with MOTB (Mother Of The Bride)-

a hilarious retrospective take on one wedding gone terribly awry and CHRISTMAS/VALENTINE’S DAY- a heartwarming story of sweet love remembered as recalled from the wife of an Alzheimer’s victim.  Featured soloists will be performing in between sketches with romantic favorites, “My Funny Valentine”, “I’ll Be Seeing You”,

“Unforgettable“, Gimme, Gimme” and others.

 

Forty-five minutes prior to the performance, three different mini-gourmet cheesecake slices will be served with coffee, a glass of sparking cider with premium round table seating.  Premium seating is limited.

In a Maine coastal village toward the end of the 19th century, the swaggering, carefree carnival barker, Billy Bigelow, captivates and marries the naive mill worker, Julie Jordan. Billy loses his job just as he learns that Julie is pregnant and, desperately intent upon providing a decent life for his family, he is coerced into being an accomplice to a robbery. Caught in the act and facing the certainty of prison, he takes his own life and is sent "up there." Billy is allowed to return to earth for one day fifteen years later, and he encounters the daughter he never knew. She is a lonely, friendless teenager, her father's reputation as a thief and bully having haunted her throughout her young life. How Billy instills in both the child and her mother a sense of hope and dignity is a dramatic testimony to the power of love. 1. Minimum of three (3) years teaching drama
2. Minimum of two (2) years working with children and/or persons with disabilities
3. High school graduate
4. Demonstrate good communication skills both written and verbally, preferably in more than one language
5. Excellent people skills
6. Must receive Class I fingerprint clearance card within 60 days
7. Receive certification in CPR, First Aid, CIT I, CIT II, and Article IX within 60 days of date of hire





Duties:

1. Responsible to Executive Director
2. Responsible for demonstrating and teaching various aspects of the theatre arts
3. Responsible for encouraging participants to explore different theatre activities
4. Responsible for encouraging creativity and self expression among participants
5. Responsible for preparing daily lesson plans and posting them weekly
6. Responsible for assuring that needed materials are on hand for classes
7. Responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly classroom.
8. Assist with finding possibilities for off site educational activities for participants
9. Assist with performing arts needs as requested by Executive Director

Cisne Productions and Crimson Blue productions are currently casting for a THE CRUMBLING MAN, a micro budget feature in Tucson AZ set for production in early summer. This thriller offers intensly dramatic roles with a lot of range.

Octavio: A 60 year old architect and father. A self made success who lives an upper class life.

SUPPORTING
Benjamin: 30 years old, Octavio's son and also an architect.

Dunbar: 35-45 years old, a compulsive, hard working detective.

We are shooting a music video in the middle of February and have one role left to cast:

Victim: male, 18-35, thugged out, any ethnicity (pref Black or Hispanic), decent range of emotions

Basically the victim is the semi-privileged son of a semi-powerful man. In the video, he runs his mouth, gets jumped, kidnapped and eventually killed. We're interested in someone who's willing to go all out.

Tucson, Arizona--PCC Theatre Arts cuts loose and brings back all the over-the-top fun of the 80s with its exuberant spring production, “Footloose,” February 25 through March 8. The musical, which opened on Broadway in 1998, was adapted for stage by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie, with music by Tom Snow and lyrics by Dean Pitchford. Footloose is brought to the Pima stage by the collaborative efforts of the creative team of Todd Poelstra, Mickey Nugent and David Waggoner, and an incredibly talented group of student actors, dancers, singers and musicians. A preview performance of “Footloose” on February 25 at 7:30 p.m. will begin the show’s two-week run. An opening celebration, 80s Night!, is planned for February 27 at 7:30 p.m. Patrons are encouraged to come dressed in 80s attire and hair styles. Prizes will be given. Sign language interpreters will be available for the Wednesday, March 4 performance.

“Footloose,” based on one of the most explosive movie musicals in recent memory, bursts onto the live stage with the rockin’ rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated top 40 score. The soundtrack album reached number one on the Billboard charts and included Holding Out For a Hero, Let’s Hear it For the Boy, Almost Paradise, On Any Sunday, I Can’t Stand Still, and of course, Footloose. The story follows a teen from Chicago (Ren) forced to move with his mother to a puritanical small town after his father abandons the family. He is outraged to discover that the local preacher has strictly forbidden dancing. The reverend’s daughter (Ariel) captures Ren’s heart as they connect over love, loss and frustrations with their lives. Together they lead the youth to protest the anti-dancing law. With tenacity and clever use of the Bible, Ren takes on the preacher and brings dance back to the heart of a town held back by the memory of a tragedy.

“Footloose,” the seventh musical production directed by Poelstra, Nugent and Waggoner; taps into the choreography skills of Nugent, musical direction of Waggoner and the experience of pit orchestra conductor Dr. Mark Nelson. According to Poelstra, “We have more talent packed on this stage than we’ve ever seen. It’s going to be a powerhouse of energy. It’s beyond high energy—it’s explosive”! Footloose will entertain the young and those who remember what it is like to be young. It’s almost paradise…
