The Great American Playhouse proudly presents "Naomi & Michelle's Excellent Adventure!"

If Naomi & Michelle fail American History, they won't play in the Championship Volleyball Game, they won't graduate and they'll ruin their own history. With a snarky cheer duo on their tails trying to stop them, a mystical phone booth time travels our girls from 1776 thru WWII. Featuring she great hits from the 80′s, you'll tap your toes as the girls travel thru the history of our country. From war to civil rights to the natural beauty of our country and crazy hairstyles, our girls come to realize what it means to be an American.

It's totally tubular!

The show will be followed with our 60′s Summer of Love Olio, featuring great hits from The Mamas & The Papas, 3 Dog Night, Simon & Garfunkel, Hair and many more!

The show will run from June 12 thru August 30.

Thursdays @ 7pm

Fridays @ 6pm

Saturdays @ 6pm

Sundays @ 3pm

Come have your kids spend the summer at the Playhouse! We have a few spots open for our Theatre Summer Camp for Young Artists! Your kids will have hands on work putting together a production of "Charlotte's Web!" Working with Artists from the Playhouse, the kids will be given instruction on acting, singing, movement and costume and set building.

Camp runs Monday, June 16-Friday, July 11, with performances on Saturday, July 12 and Sunday, July 13. 10am-3pm M-F(July 3rd and 4th will be taken off for the holiday). $400 for the four week camp, one of the best deals in town!

The Gaslight Theatre is four weeks into our new “Gaslight Shares” Program we’ve already met and helped four great families that enjoyed a night out on us! We at The Gaslight are celebrating 36 years of making Tucson laugh! We wouldn’t be here without all of Tucson’s great audiences and support! We would like to “Give Back” to our community with our NEW “GASLIGHT SHARES” Program. We will donate one table for up to four guests, one large pizza and sodas for a deserving family nominated by you. All names will be put into a fish bowl, from which one name will be drawn each week. All unselected names will remain in the bowl for a continued chance to be selected in the upcoming drawings. Anyone may be nominated, families in financial need, medical need or maybe just in a tough spot who would enjoy a night out full of laughs and good food.  lack of funds.          

 

Since last August, the creative team of playwright, Milta Ortiz, and director, Marc David Pinate, has generated over 450 pages of interview transcripts from former students, teachers, school board members, academics, lawyers and others intimately connected to outlawed Mexican American Studies program at TUSD. Interviews were turned into a dramatic script following in the style of docu-theatre works like The Laramie Project by Tectonic Theatre, and

Twilight Los Angeles by Anna Deavere Smith.

 

June's staged reading is an opportunity for the play's creators to test out the interdisciplinary elements of the project which include Aztec masks by award-winning mask maker, Zarco Guerrero; choreography by Yvonne Montoya of Tucson's Safos Dance Company, and live music by fusion band, Astral Folk. Ricardo Salinas, from the nationally renown performance troupe, Culture Clash, is the dramaturg on the project and will be in Tucson for rehearsals and performances.

Mas was commissioned by Borderlands Theater after being awarded a one year residency from the

National New Play Network. The project has also received a Research and Development grant with Distinguished Merit from the Arizona Commission on the Arts.

Les Miserables has  been seen by over 100 million people live onstage, and the recent Academy Award nominated and winning movie version has been seen by over one billion people.

FST! Presents: Best Summer Ever

 

FST! was founded in 2012 as a creative outlet for women to have a voice in Tucson. Each month FST! invites four or more women to write and perform personal stories based on a set prompt or theme. With each person's individual perspective on the theme, each FST! performance is uniquely unpredictable, often inspiring much laughter and the occasional tear from the audience. Talk about flower power! The impish forest creature, Puck, places one flower petal in the wrong spot and all sorts of passion, heartache, confusion and comedy takes place. It's the ultimate in love triangles; on-again, off-again relationships; and mismatched lovers trying to find their way through life while finding their way through an enchanted forest.

The ballet will be performed to the remarkable score that, almost overnight, made Felix Mendelssohn a star. This magical, musical Shakespearean comedy with all its hilarious plot twists and turns is brilliantly told in dance. The supernatural characters of Puck, Oberon and Titania, and a full retinue of fairies and sprites are performed by the students at Dancing in the Streets AZ . Bring all the mischief-loving members of your family!

Dancing in the Streets Arizona (DITSAZ) is a non-profit dance organization geared to the diverse children and families of South Tucson. These families have not typically seen ballet as an appropriate alternative to the gangs and after school mischief that can tempt their children. But because of the charisma, enthusiasm and educational talent of Husband and Wife DITSAZ Co-Founders/Artistic Directors, Joseph Rodgers and Soleste Lupu, numerous families are embracing ballet as a way to open paths of productive creativity and discipline, paths that can help children grow beyond the confines of a disadvantaged neighborhood. DITSAZ uses the excitement and discipline of ballet to guide children in achieving life goals.

Vision: To be recognized as a world class performing arts organization, primarily for at-risk youth, committed to the region’s

cultural and artistic development.
