Tucson, Arizona--Pima Community College Center for the Arts announces its 2015-2016 Season: INSPIRE! The new season of stimulating and expressive arts events; from Pima's theatre, music and dance performances to the Bernal Gallery's contemporary art exhibitions; strive to spark your imagination and kindle your creative spirit. The Center for the Arts complex, situated on Pima's West Campus, consists of the Proscenium Theatre, the Black Box Theatre, the Recital Hall and the Louis Carlos Bernal Gallery.
PCC Theatre Arts
HENRY AND RAMONA - By Cynthia J. McGean. Based on the Beverly Cleary books Henry and Beezus, Henry and the Clubhouse, and Henry and the Paper Route. Directed by Mickey Nugent. September 23-October 4, in the Center for the Arts Proscenium Theatre (Fri. and Sat. at 7 p.m., Sat. and Sun. at 2 p.m.) ASL interpreters: October 2. Tickets are $8 with discounts for groups of 10 or more. Welcome to Klickitat Street, home of Henry Higgins, his faithful dog Ribsy, Ramona the Pest, and her long-suffering sister Beezus. Newbery Award-winning author Beverly Cleary's irrepressible hero saves the day in this adaptation of one of the best-loved children's book series of all time. Ten-year-old Henry wants to do something important; he wants to deliver newspapers. But first Henry has to prove to his parents he can handle the responsibility. That won't be easy with Ramona Quimby around! Then when the boys form a clubhouse excluding girls, Henry's friendship with Beezus is tested and the girls wreak their hilarious revenge. Along the way, with the "help" of Ramona, he learns some valuable lessons about friendship. Henry and Ramona captures the everyday trials and triumphs of being a kid. Scout Theatre Adventure Night, for girl and boy scouts and their leaders, is Saturday, September 26 at 7 p.m. The event includes discounted tickets, a stage tour, cast interaction and Q&A session after the play. STICKS AND BONES - a 1971 play by David Rabe. November 12-22 in the Center for the Arts Black Box Theatre (Thu.-Sat. at 7:30 p.m., Sun. at 2 p.m.) ASL interpreters: November 19. Tickets are $18 with discounts available for students, seniors, military, PCC employees and groups of 10 or more. Rabe's savage and savagely comic portrayal of the quintessential middle class American family—Ozzie, Harriet, David and Ricky, goes to the damaged heart of American family values. When David comes back from the war in Vietnam blinded and unable to come to terms with his actions on the battlefield, he is alienated from his family because they neither can accept his disability nor understand his wartime experience. Wanting to return their son to normal, Ozzie offers camaraderie, Harriet cooks and bakes the foods he once loved, while guitar-playing, fudge-eating Ricky pops cheerfully in and out of the house pretending all is well. Winner of the 1972 Tony Award for Best Play.
CRAZY FOR YOU - Music and Lyrics by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin, book by Ken Ludwig, co-conception by Ken Ludwig and Mike Ockrent, and inspired by material by Guy Bolton and John McGowan.
Originally produced on Broadway by Roger Horchow and Elizabeth Williams. Brought to the stage by the creative team of Todd Poelstra, Mickey Nugent, Martha Reed and Dr. Mark Nelson. February 25-March 6 in the Center for the Arts Proscenium Theatre (Thu.-Fri. at 7:30 p.m., Sat. at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Sun. at 2 p.m.) ASL interpreters: March 3. Tickets are $18 with discounts available for students, seniors, military, PCC employees and groups of 10 or more. CRAZY FOR YOU, a high-energy, romantic musical comedy, features mistaken identities, plot twists, fabulous dance numbers and classic Gershwin music. Bobby Child is a well-to-do 1930′s New York playboy whose dream in life is to dance. When his mother sends him to a small, poor town in Nevada to close down the local theater, Bobby falls in love with the theater owner's daughter, Polly. In order to save the theater, he dreams up the idea to put on a show to raise money. In the end, the town is reinvigorated, the theater is saved and Bobby finds true love. Memorable Gershwin tunes include I Can't Be Bothered Now, Bidin' My Time, I Got Rhythm, Naughty Baby, They Can't Take That Away from Me, But Not for Me, Nice Work if You Can Get It, Embraceable You and Someone to Watch Over Me. Winner of the 1992 Tony Award for Best Musical. An opening night celebration featuring preshow activities and refreshments is planned for Thursday, February 25 beginning at 6:30 p.m.
LOVE'S LABOUR'S LOST, a comedy by William Shakespeare. April 14–24 in the Center for the Arts Black Box Theatre (Thu.-Sat. at 7:30 p.m., Sun. at 2 p.m.). ASL interpreters: April 21. Tickets are $18 with discounts available for students, seniors, military, PCC employees and groups of 10 or more. Love's Labour's Lost is a play of witty banter written during the early part of Shakespeare's literary career. It follows the King of Navarre and his three companions as they attempt to forswear the company of women for three years of study and fasting, and their subsequent infatuation with the Princess of Aquitaine and her ladies. The play draws on themes of masculine love and desire, reckoning and rationalization, and reality versus fantasy.

Wind Ensemble concerts – Under the direction of Dr. Mark Nelson featuring classics for full band, as well as small wind and percussion ensembles and soloists. October 22, December 3, March 10 and April 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for the Arts Proscenium Theatre. Tickets are $6 with discounts available.
Chorale & College Singers concerts – Under the direction of Jonathan Ng featuring selections for a large mixed-voice choir and a more select mixed-voice a cappella choir. October 25 at 3 p.m., December 4 at 7:30 p.m., March 8 at 7:30 p.m., May 1 at 3 p.m. in the Center for the Arts Proscenium Theatre. Tickets are $6 with discounts available.
Jazz Ensemble Concerts – Under the direction of Mike Kuhn featuring jazz standards performed from a variety of periods in big band style. December 1 and April 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for the Arts Proscenium Theatre. Tickets are $6 with discounts available.
Orchestra Concerts - Under the direction of Dr. Alexander Tentser featuring a repertoire for orchestra with students and community adults. December 5 and April 30, at 3 p.m. in the Center for the Arts Proscenium Theatre. Tickets are $6 with discounts available.
CANTORES: Male Quartet a Cappella Ensemble – featuring faculty Jonathan Ng, counter-tenor and tenor; and guest artists Jose "Chach" Snook, counter-tenor and tenor; Vincent Jackson, tenor; Darryl King, baritone and Suzanne Eanes, accompanist. DR. JONATHAN NG TENOR – an annual faculty vocal recital. Besides conducting choruses and orchestras, Dr. Ng is a professional lyric tenor and has appeared in various oratorios and operas throughout the states, Europe and Hong Kong. TBA. Tickets are $8 with discounts available.
ALEX CARDIERI PIANO & FRIENDS – a faculty lecture recital featuring popular music in America. April 10 at 3 p.m. in the Center for the Arts Recital Hall. Tickets are $8 with discounts available.
Dr. Mark Nelson tuba – an annual faculty tuba recital featuring classic, contemporary and premiered works for tuba. Dr. Nelson has given recitals, master classes and lectures in such diverse locations as Austria, Canada, England, Japan, Australia and many parts of the United States. He has premiered over 30 new works for tuba and has been instrumental in helping establish a number of consortium commissions for new works. April 14 at 7 p.m. in the Center for the Arts Recital Hall. Tickets are $8 with discounts available.

PCC Dance
SIGNATURE SELECTIONS. Under the direction of Nolan Kubota. A contemporary dance concert inspired by movement processes featuring faculty and student works. December 11-12, Fri. at 7:30 p.m., Sat. at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the Center for the Arts Proscenium Theatre. Tickets are $10 with discounts available. DANCE FUSION. Under the direction of Nolan Kubota. The performance melds various dance styles together in a melting pot of dance movements from classical to contemporary styles; intermingling ballet, modern, jazz and more! A vibrant blend of physicality, musicality and passion is demonstrated with innovative choreography and contrasting music.
