On two evenings in May

 

Ten by Four is two evenings of table-reads hosted by Old Pueblo Playwrights.  Ten pages of new script by four local playwrights will be read on successive Monday nights. We will hear these works under construction and share thoughts with each writer to help him/her push forward with the next step in their play’s development. The evening will be fast-paced, slamming through the Ten by Four in just two hours. Admission is free and open to non-member guests.

 

May 1st – Ten by Four, featuring works by OPP members. Actors are provided. Non-member guests are welcomed to listen and participate in the facilitated discussion.

 

May 8th – Ten by Four, featuring works by non-members of OPP. If you’re a playwright, working on a play, and yearn for supportive input, bring ten pages in for a table-read. We supply the actors and facilitate a brief discussion afterward. You must register in advance with coordinator Carl Damhesel (cdamhesel@yahoo.com); the first four to register are in.

 

Each Ten by Four evening will take place at 7:00 P. M. in the rehearsal hall, upstairs behind the Cabaret Theater, at the Temple of Music and Art, 330 S. Scott in downtown Tucson. Note: Plays may contain themes appropriate for mature audiences. Parental discretion is advised.

"Impulse, Awareness, and Economy: A workshop in improvised theatre making with music, movement and text."

An exploration of improvisatory/devised movement and music for actors, physical performers, dancers, and musicians. During this two-day workshop, we'll explore the role of the actor/dancer and the musician in interdisciplinary theatre-making

 

This interactive, two day intensive will be led by the Rogue Theatre Education Director Matt Bowdren and Resident Music Director Jake Sorgen. The workshop culminates in a public performance of improvised/devised material created during the workshop.

Schedule:            Friday April 7^th – 6:00pm-10:00pm

                           Saturday April 8^th – 10:00am-3:00pm, Rehearsal: 4:00pm-6:00pm, Performance: 7:00pm

 

Cost: $50

6:30 - 9:30 AM | Set up & Registration
Help set up signs & stanchions, prep registration, greet attendees and give them a rundown of the day
11:00 - 12:30 PM | Lunch Logistics & Registration
Help organize boxed lunches as they arrive, answer questions from attendees and lead legislators to their tables
1:00 - 2:30 PM | Trash, Cleanup & Pack up
Make sure all trash has been deposited in receptacles, tie bags off, pack up signs, stanchions and registration materials

 

 

We need a few people to be available for the entire day and a a few additional available for the morning period only.

As a volunteer, you will be provided a lunch and are welcome to attend any of the workshops occurring throughout the day when not volunteering.

We invite all artist-types and culture-makers to attend and present for 4-5 minutes on a piece of art or in their chosen creative form – whether it be music, dance, poetry and spoken word, meditation, design, textiles, painting, culinary work, theater and short acts, short films, photography. Through your participation, we will create a shared vision and voice as to why funding for the arts is important.

Repertoire
The highlight for Dance & Dessert 2017 is the company premiere of La Bayadere – Act III.  This famous "Kingdom of the Shades" scene in the great tradition of Russian-style classical ballet is meticulously staged by Assistant Artistic Director Chieko Imada.
 
Other repertoire includes:
Hi Jinks – long-time Ballet Tucson associate Sam Watson stages his riotous comedy ballet.
 
Cascades – guest choreographer Kim Robards of the Denver-based Kim Robards Dance Company reprises her signature work; a dynamic contemporary ensemble piece performed with effervescence and spirit by Ballet Tucson's company of dancers.
 
Monster – Ballet Tucson Soloist Dancer Connolly Strombeck debuts this new work set to the quirky music of the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. Strombeck has been a participant of Ballet Tucson's ChoreoLab in which this contemporary piece found its genesis. ChoreoLab was launched this season to nurture the next generation of choreographers and artistic directors. This will be the first choreographic selection chosen from ChoreoLab for main stage performances.
 
The company's Ballet Master Daniel Precup will contribute several short neo-classical offerings to round out the wide range of repertoire for the 2017 Spring Concert.

TUCSON, AZ – Past member of the multiple Grammy winning ensemble, Chanticleer, Terry Barber takes the stage for one performance in The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber at Tucson's Fox Theatre on Saturday, March 11. The show begins at 7:00 pm.

 

            Terry, a rare countertenor, will sing hits from ten well-loved shows of Andrew Lloyd Webber. The show will include "Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera, "Heaven On Their Minds" from Jesus Christ Superstar, and "Memory" from Cats in addition to other selections from Evita, Sunset Boulevard, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Requiem, and more. Terry has selected three of the area's most exceptional up and coming talents from the University of Arizona's Repertory Theatre program to join him for cameo appearances: Devon Prokopek, Matthew Osvog, and Shira Maas.

 

            When Terry was with Chanticleer, he was called "a jewel in their crown" (the Oregonian), and with them he gave "performances of great vitality and verve" (the Los Angeles Times). Since then he has been a soloist on many of the world's most storied stages including Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Opera, Moscow's Sveltlanov Hall and many, many more. His most recent album, the 2015 Christmas Presence, was considered for six Grammy nominations. His solo tours in the USA and Canada have had more than 200 performances where ''...his grasp of the texts and elegant phrasing made for charismatic singing' (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution).

One of the most popular romantic comedies of our era, Same Time, Next Year ran four years on Broadway, winning a Tony Award for lead actress Ellen Burstyn, who later recreated her role in the successful motion picture with comedy-great Alan Alda. Slade's heartwarming tale remains one of the world's most widely produced plays. The plot follows a 25 year love affair between two people, Doris and George, married to others, who rendezvous once a year.
