Genie Joseph, an Emmy-Award Winning Producer/Director, has feature films distributed by SONY that have won international awards.  She is the former CEO of Hawaii Movie Studios and was a staff producer for ABC, Nickelodeon, and Take 2 Productions.  Her films have played on USA Cable, and she has sold seven screenplays to independent producers.  Genie is a judge at the prestigious PAGE International Screenwriting Awards where she reads over 300 feature scripts a season.  She has taught media online and in person at Chaminade University since 2003.  She has created a free online film school and is President of Independent Film Arizona.

Renown sculptor/mask maker Zarco Guerrero reveals the awesome power of the mask to transform in this unique one man storytelling event for children. Touching on such issues as Mexican-American and indigenous heritage, the wisdom of elders, and the current pandemic, Zarco presents a light-hearted solo performance that mirrors the mysteries of the heart in a myriad of familiar cultural faces.

 

Zarco Guerrero has exhibited and received international acclaim and many prestigious awards. He received the Japan Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, The Arizona Governors Arts Award, the Artistic Excellence Award from American Hispanics in Higher Education and the Esperanza Teacher of the Year Award among many others. He won the 2012 Zony Award for his ground breaking work as a mask maker in Childsplay's 2011 production of "The Sun Serpent." In 2015 he was recognized as a Master by the Southwest Folklife Alliance. The New Times named him "Best Storyteller" in 2016. In 2017 he was chosen to design the Light Rail Station at Baseline and Central Avenues in Phoenix

Borderlands' ensemble member Adam Cooper-Terán (ACT) presents a curated set of media from his expansive repertoire of video art, performance, and music spanning nearly two decades. The show is a meditation and response to these pandemic times we are living in, combining new and unseen works addressing the ongoing struggles in these borderlands, and the world at large. This is not passive TV, it is an indictment of the mainstream narrative, remixed to provoke and inspire audiences. Warning: there will be images of flashing lights and some disturbing imagery regarding child detention centers.

How's it going where you are? With the way things are these days, you may be wishing you had a place where you physically distance yourself from all the worries of the world and laugh with some other folks. 

 

We at Unscrewed Theater have some good news! We're offering an online Improv Drop-In class on ZOOM! Mondays from 6:30-8pm (Tucson time) you can drop-in and connect with improvisers of all skill levels for a silly session that might turn into your favorite time of the week. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. Have some fun and see other people's faces.

Here are some important updates!

 

Dear Wonderful Invisible Theatre Family,

 

We hope you and your loved ones continue to be well and safe. Our hearts go out to each and every one of you. Here are some updates regarding the current and ever changing situation.

 

FILMIMG O'KEEFFE

June 15 - July 5, 2020 - RE-SCHEDULED

The exact dates and times TBA

 

All 49th Anniversary Season Tickets and individually purchased tickets will be honored. You will receive a phone call

after May 15 to reschedule your tickets.

 

We will be instituting what we call "Boutique Seating". Every night the configuration will be a bit different reflecting yours and other audience members' group reservation. We will strictly adhere to every precaution on social distancing as outlined by the CDC and the city of Tucson. We anticipate seating between 25 - 40 fabulous people nightly.

That is only 25% - 50% of our capacity. Yikes!

We look at this not as half empty but as our

"Half Full Initiative"

 

Here is how it will work!

 

• We will take your request for seating when we call you.
• All audience members must wear masks.
• You will be seated directly into the theatre.
• There will be a check-in rather than issuing a ticket and an information sheet rather than a full program.
• All social distancing guidelines will be followed.
• The theatre will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized after every performance.
• If you are feeling ill, please stay home and we will reschedule your tickets.
• FILMING O'KEEFFE is 75 minutes without an intermission.
• All of our actors will be monitored daily.

We are committed to helping ALL of our arts community, students, teachers, restaurants, advertisers, first responders and vendors who have been financially devastated. Out of deference to everything our community is experiencing, we have chosen to wait until after May 15th to launch ...

ODYSSEY STORYTELLING ONLINE PRESENTS: SAVAGE

As you all know by now, due to the inadvisability of gathering in large groups during the COVID-19 pandemic, Odyssey Storytelling decided to cancel our April show, “Kale (And Other Reversals of Fortune).” Because Odyssey is a non-profit that relies almost entirely on ticket sales, this left us in a bit of a bind, which is why we took to Facebook to ask for donations. And you responded beautifully, prompting us to raise our goal amount not once, but twice! Thank you so, so much for your support during this time. There are still a few days left to contribute to the fundraiser, so if you haven’t had the chance yet, you can find it at the following link:

Instead of canceling this one, however, we’re doing what so many other organizations are doing right now: We’re taking the show online. “Savage” will be a pre-recorded storytelling event, curated by the superlative Jess Kapp, and will be available both on YouTube and via the Odyssey Storytelling Podcast. We’re still looking for Savage storytellers, so if you’re interested, send us an email or reply to this post! We recognize that not everyone finds the digital world easy to navigate, so we’re going into this with the goal of making “Savage” as accessible as possible for ANYONE. The exact date that the show will become available has not yet been set, but we will be posting that information here, as well as sending out an email to those on our mailing list. So keep an eye out for more info! And remember, you can find the Odyssey Storytelling Podcast on any podcast app, or here:

In addition to “Savage,” Odyssey is more committed than ever to making stories from our community available to others and providing a platform to the many voices of Tucson. We also know that, given recent events, some of you probably have some pretty good stories! With that in mind, we’re putting out an open call for story submissions for the Odyssey Storytelling Podcast! If you have the means to record a audio version of your story, do so, and send it to stories@odysseystorytelling.com. If you want to record a story but aren’t sure how, send an email anyway! We will put you in touch with our podcast producer, Miles Schneiderman, who will help you get your story out into the world! Stories are more important than ever at this moment in history, and so are our communities. Let your voice be heard, and help us use the power of storytelling to draw together and strengthen the Odyssey community as we traverse the unknown landscape of a post-COVID world.
