I would like to offer some further clarification about the multiple productions of THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES in Tucson:

 

All three productions of THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES are very important to this community. While one may be performed at a large and newly renovated venue, all three should be considered valuable to the community as a whole. Each production is being coordinated in hopes to raise awareness in the community about Sexual Assault, as well as raise funds for a particular center against sexual assault. If you choose to audition for one of these productions, you are contributing to a very good cause and your efforts will be highly appreciated.

 

If you are not auditioning for one of these groups, please make a point to see at least one of the 3 productions in February. Information about the University of Arizona performance will be distributed starting in January.

There may be some confusion: the auditions on the 8th that Bevan sent out an announcement for are for the University of Arizona production while the ones on the 9th and 10th that I sent are for the community production that will be held at a very large, very beautiful newly-restored venue that I can't yet mention by name until the contract's been signed.

 

Needless to say, these are two very different productions with different organizing groups, directors, creative staff, etc.  And in case anyone on the list is interested, there is also a third, all-Spanish production in Tucson.  I'll let those affiliated with the UA and Spanish versions speak for themselves though.

Thank you to all of you who have expressed condolences over the loss of our colleague Albert Soto. We are deeply saddened by Albert's sudden death last week.  Albert was a passionate arts advocate and administrator who gave generously to so many causes--striving always to make the world more just and more art-full!!   

 

Albert had worked at the Arts Council since 1991 developing and managing a wide range of programs and services--from grants to support artists and arts organizations, to international exchange programs and programs that served youth and neighborhoods.  Most recently Albert was the Director of ArtWORKS! Academy and was overseeing the school’s relocation to the downtown historic warehouse arts district and expansion to serve more students.

 

We invite you to join Albert's family, friends and colleagues in honoring and celebrating his life and his legacy this Saturday, December 3.   We have just learned that there have been changes in the details of those services.   Please note the details  below.

An amazing evening of Dances in space, Music in time, with Theatre, Poetry and Visuals for the Mind.

An evening of collaborative performance works by many of Tucson’s seasoned movement and musical artists held in the intimate environment of the ORTSPACE Warehouse. Contributing to the evening of exciting and moving performances will be: Capoeira Malandragem, The Human Project, Nicole Stansbury, Charles Alexander, Lena Lauer, Nicole Sasala, Annie Bunker, Barbara Schuessler, Richard Tavenner, Sukie Keita, Danielle Jones, Kiona Brown, Aurelia Cohen, Dondi Marble, Anton Smith, Charlie Luna, Adrian Ruizand others.

This event will be the last of a series running eight years utilizing the entire warehouse space. O-T-O Dance is loosing it’s east studio early in 2006. So, if you’ve missed this performance in past years this will be your last chance to experience it.

Performance Description:

 

Artistic mayhem? Possibly. Risk Taking? You bet. A sumptuous buffet of movement and visual delicacies. Front line performances? That’s the whole point!  O-T-O Dance once again sets the stage for a level of artistic intimacy almost unheard of in today’s performance art venues.  Two simultaneous performances spaces will all take place in the same large studio space, the Ortspace Studio Complex located in Tucson’s Historic Warehouse District. 

The boundary between the stage and seats will be at times hard to find. This unique venue allows creative use of space, thrusting the viewer into the gray area between participant and audience member.  This “front line” performance layout creates an intimate visceral connection between the performer and the viewer that is not possible in more traditional settings.

 

During the evening, the audience will experience a series of performance works, moving between two performance spaces. Audiences will experience a wide variety of performance works including: Modern, Aerial Dance, Flamenco, African, Hip Hop and addition to Poetry and Capoeira

 

Our performances are audience friendly; all the works are suitable for humans of all ages.  The doors open one half hour before the start of the show.

Needed: Catalina Players is searching for actors ages 16 and up, who can act like a bunch of 6 year olds. All should be able to sing and have some comic timing. Snoopy can be either sex and shouldn't have 2 left feet. Linus also needs to have some ability to dance. The rest should be able to move well (i.e., walk and chew gum at the same time). Dress comfortably and come prepared to read, move and sing. Please prepare a song that shows your vocal range and ability. Bring sheet music. Accompanist will be provided.

 

About the play:  You're A Good Man Charlie Brown is a comical, upbeat family-friendly musical about "a day in the life" of Charlie Brown.  A day made up of

little moments picked from all the days of Charlie Brown, from Valentine's

Day to the baseball season, from wild optimism to utter despair, all mixed

in with the lives of his friends (both human and non-human) and strung

together on the string of a single day, from bright uncertain morning to

hopeful starlit evening.  Through song and dance, Snoopy and the rest of

the Peanuts gang (Lucy, Linus, Patty and Schroeder), help Charlie Brown

figure out who he is, how he fits in and exactly what being a "good man"

means.  People of all ages are guaranteed to fall in love with this

wonderful production.

I'm revoicing the leading role in a locally produced film noir.

Experienced, trained (Method preferred), Female Actor, 23-30 years
old for VOICE WORK ONLY. This role is emotionally demanding,
complex, and nuanced.  Terror, rage, desperation, cynicism,
manipulation, betrayal, double crosses, and other powerful
expressive scenes.  You must view the entire project before deciding
whether or not to audition.

If you've never done ADR before, you'll be good at it in an hour,
and by the end of this project, you'll be expert enough to add "ADR"
to your resume' skill list.

There are 24 scenes.  With diligent work, this can be accomplished
in 12 to 14 sessions of 3 - 3 1/2 hours each -- approximately 2
scenes per session.  With a "legit" level of commitment, this work
can be completed in 2 weeks with a weekend day for 2 - 3 sessions in
between -- or 1 week, if your schedule permits. Work will be
scheduled in January.

No play; festival play; DVDs when they are manufactured; glory,
gratitude, dinner/coffee/bottled water.

a fun sense of sarcasm to him. He is not the greatest gunslinger,
but gets
the job done at whatever cost.

Yin is a very old Asian immigrant. Yin began the Freak Show to make
a means
to an end. Just from looking at Yin, you may feel uneasy because of
his long
nails. However, those who know him feel close to him and know he
wise, and can be trusted.

*Artimus

Actor: Open

Younger version of Yin

*Tattoo Man

Actor: Open

The Tattoo Man is a very large (muscle) man. His body, including his
face,
is covered in tattoos. He is a New Zealander who traveled to here in
search
of land of which to purchase and make a home. Because of his
appearance, he
is the type of guy that would not be accepted anywhere but the Freak
Show.
He is not only a performer, but also is Yin’s right-hand man. He has
very
strong romantic feelings for the Gypsy Woman that are obvious to
everyone in
the Freak Show, but he has never pursued her.

*John (Dark Rider)

Actor: Open

John Custer is in his mid-thirties. He is a small build, but very
quick with
his gun. He stands as Wes’s right-hand man for the band of hired
gunslingers
known as the Dark Riders.

*Doug (Dark Rider)

Actor: Open

Doug Samuels is in his young twenties. He and his brother, Ben, have
been
riding with the Dark Riders for close to five years. He, like his
brother,
is in it for the thrill more so than the money.

*Ben (Dark Rider)

Actor: Open

Ben Samuels is the younger brother to Doug who also rides with Dark
Riders.
Though he is the youngest of the pack, he is no less ruthless than
the rest.
He is thin but tall. He has a very humble presence to his domineer.

*Virgil (backup Deputy 1)

Actor: Open

Virgil is in his early sixties. A good spirited rugged man who
believes in
God, the Law and Family. He is a volunteer town deputy.

*Jimmy, Tye and Buck (Backup Deputy’s)

Vagina Monologues

AUDITIONS

Once again in 2006, the Network of Feminist Student Activists at the University of Arizona is organizing benefit performances of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues as part of the V-Day 2006 College Campaign. Put your activism into acting and help us make this show happen. No acting experience is required.

Auditions will be held on Thursday, December 8th at 7 PM in the Cooper Room on the 4th Floor of the Student Union. The performances will be given next semester on February 16th, 17th and 18th. For more information contact our Director, Bevan Bluemer, at bevanbluemer@cox.net.

Waypoint Theatre Company, southern Arizona’s non-profit, faith-based theatre company, will present the family Christmas comedy, “It’s Christmas, and It’s Live!” at the Mountain View Recreation Center Social Hall auditorium, 1495 East Rancho Vistoso Boulevard, in northwest Tucson, Friday, December 1, Saturday, December 2, and Saturday, December 3 at 7 p.m.

    

It’s Christmas Eve, l952, and a small, northeastern TV studio is getting ready for the live broadcast of its Christmas special.  The set is wrong, the props are falling apart, the special guest star is a heart throb with a recent back injury, and to make matters worse—a blizzard has hit the city and most of the cast and crew can’t make it into the studio.  The director is pulling his hair out, when in walk the “Harmonaires”, an amateur singing group straight from Dubuque, Iowa.  There’s more surprises in store that will bounce the audience from laughter to tears and back again.  Lots of holiday classic music favorites, and fun for the family.
