Price Changes

After years of keeping pricing the same, the time has come to raise our prices. Sales tax has gone up, as well as our rent, and we need to adjust for that. We have raised the monthly price by $5 and adjusted all other pricing accordingly.

We hope you know that your payments to the Circus Academy directly sustain this community and space. Without you, we wouldn't be here, and your payments and presence are what keeps this community alive with the lights on, the coolers running, and our teachers paid fairly.

In addition to all this, we are hoping to do some improvements to the space over the next year, including insulating the roof and upgrading the cooling. 

We want you all to know that keeping circus accessible to all is still our primary goal and mission, and as always we welcome your feedback and questions! 

We want to keep this alive for all of you well into the future.

 

End of Summer Shows!

All Aboard The Circus Train

The advanced youth camp will be presenting their end of summer show "Circus Train" in Flagstaff at Heritage Square on Friday July 27th at 6pm (for free!) and in Tucson at the Circus Academy on Saturday July 28th at 6pm for $5.

 

Enchanted Forest

The advanced adult intensive will present their final show "Enchanted Forest" on Friday August 3rd from 7-8:30pm for $10. This performance will be an immersive circus experience that allows the audience to walk through and explore the enchanted forest and interact with the characters that live there. Come by at 7 and stay the whole time to see the entire story and show or drop by and walk through at any time in the evening!

Arizona Onstage Productions (Les Miserables, The Producers) will be staging the Broadway and world-wide hit MAMMA MIA for 5 performances the last weekend of November, and 1st weekend in December at the Berger Performing Arts Center.  

 Auditions will be held at Kids Unlimited Studio, 6066 N. Oracle Rd on Saturday, August 18th, starting at 4:15. Be prepared to sing and dance. Our director and choreographer Debbie Runge will teach the movement routine at 4:15 - then see you all in smaller groups. We are asking all to sing 32 bars of music that you have marked and prepared in advance. We will have a pianist as well as a cd player. Please note that the roles of Bill, Sam, and Donna have been cast. There is a small honorarium for every performer. Callbacks will be the following day - same time and place.

Celebrating the TheatreLab’s 10^th Year in Tucson

August 2nd-12th, 2018

 

The Bennett TheatreLab is presenting a Festival of Plays to celebrate our 10^th year of teaching the up-to-date Stanislavsky System of Psychophysical Actions and Active Analysis.  We will be presenting three productions in true repertory form, over the course of two weekends.  Included will be: Agnes of God by John Pielmeier, Red by John Logan, and a Mime & Scene Showcase. Over the course of nine months, actors from our professional three-year training program have been preparing their roles for performance. The Festival of Plays will run Thursdays through Sundays at The Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre, August 2^nd through August 12^th. Pre-sale General Admission tickets are $20 or $50 for a 3-Day Festival Pass. ($15 for Students, Teachers, and Seniors).

 

Can you be a murderer and a saint? Agnes of God explores the arrest of a young nun examined by a court-appointed psychiatrist.  Startling revelations force the Doctor, the Mother Superior, and Novice to question the meaning of faith and the power of love.“[Agnes] riveting, powerful, electrifying drama […] the dialogue crackles.” – New York Daily

 

“There is only one thing I fear in life my friend…One day the black will swallow the red,” declares Mark Rothko. Red depicts the dynamic struggle between two artists from conflicting generations. During the creation of the monumental Seagram murals, world renowned abstract expressionist Mark Rothko and his young assistant Ken, battle over the meaning and relevance of modern art.

 

Topping off our Festival, internationally acclaimed master Mime artists, Rick Wamer & Grant Bashore, have created original pieces for Mime & Scene Showcase. Rounding out our celebration, TheatreLab students ranging from their first through third years will be performing challenging scenes from Shakespeare and contemporary works.

In order to bring all the elements of what is taught in the Stanislavsky System of Psychophysical Actions and Active Analysis performance in full-length plays is required, and we are thrilled to offer this for the first time to our Tucson base. Five of our incredibly dedicated students will be completing their third year of training in both Agnes of God and Red.
The Bennett TheatreLab offers professional conservatory style actor training to the local community in Tucson, Arizona. We believe every actor with talent has a spark of genius. The goal of our System of training is to identify that spark, bring it to the fore, and develop the actor’s technical skill and confidence to do so independently.

Artifact Dance Project tells two stories of manipulation and malice. Artistic Director Claire Hancock premieres her adaptation of Thomas Cullinan's novel, A Painted Devil, about a Union soldier who finds himself in an all-female boarding house entangled with rivalries and jealousies in the Confederate South. Music by Vincent Calianno for strings, piano, percussion and electronics. Hancock also remounts her version of Edgar Allan Poe's short story, "The Oval Portrait", about a painter who becomes so obsessed with creating a lifelike painting of his wife that he deprives her of real love in the process. Ripley earned critical acclaim and won the Best Actress in a Musical Tony and Helen Hayes awards for her work as Diana in the Pulitzer Prize-winning rock opera, Next to Normal. Ripley received Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations for her work as conjoined twin Violet Hilton in the cult hit, Side Show. INVISIBLE THEATRE JOINS CHEF JANOS WILDER DOWNTOWN FOR TWO WEEKS OF "SIZZLING SUMMER SOUNDS"

Invisible Theatre's annual New York-styled cabaret series has taken over the Chef's new Carriage House adjacent to Janos' Downtown Kitchen on South Sixth Avenue, completing the urban atmosphere of sophisticated entertainment surrounded by sidewalks and streetcar tracks to give those Sizzling Summer Sounds extra authenticity.

 

Lighting the fire to get things started Tuesday, July 10, is the SIZZLING SOIREE! presented by Susan and the Chef -- IT's artistic director Susan Classen and renowned Chef Janos Wilder. On stage is a sampler plate presentation of all the saucy entertainment in store for this fortnight of fun through July 22, along with a table of "fabulous and fun finger food" for all the guests, plus a glass of champagne.

Multi-instrumentalists Rob Boone and Ray Templin join versatile harpist Christine Vivona for an ice cube tinklng set of cocktail summer sounds ranging geographically from New Orleans "Dixieland" to Chicago "Hot Jazz" to New York "Swing."   

 

Friday, July 13, LUCK BE A LADY!

Paying tribute to Frank Sinatra and his favorite "dames" (from Ella to Peggy Lee) are popular Baked Apple vocalists Julie Anne and Armen Dirtadian joined by pianist Daniel "Sly" Slipetsky, adding their polish to the Great American Songbook.

 

Saturday and Sunday, July 14-15 AN AMERICAN IN PARIS!

Nobody does the City of Light better than Steve Ross, also known as "the Crown Prince of New York Cabaret," playing his own piano, telling stories and singing the heart out of Piaf, Chevalier and Brel. You may think it is July in Tucson but it will feel like "April in Paris."

Wednesday, July 18, MOTOWN WITH TRIPLE THREAT!

Bringing the music of Motown straight into downtown T-Town are Crystal Stark, Katherine Byrnes and Julie Anne with two nights of "Dancing in the Street" to the piano accompaniment of Khris Dodge. There are some excellent reasons why these ladies call themselves Triple Threat.

Full-flavored, unadulterated and all New York is Ann Hampton Callaway, coming way out west to bring IT's Sizzling Summer Sounds the genuine goods, this time letting the Silver Screen call the tunes. AUDITIONS

ARIZONA ROSE THEATRE

2018/2019 Season

 

The Arizona Rose Theatre will be holding auditions

on Wednesday, July 18th from 7:00pm to 8:30pm for our upcoming season.

 

Auditions will be held at the Arizona Rose Theatre in the Tucson Mall

(Lower Level by Macy's and across from the Container Store)

 

This is an open call... Please come with a prepared monologue.  If you are

auditioning for our musical productions then please have a song prepared as well.  We ask that you only prepare 32 bars. Musical auditions will be acapella, you may bring an accompaniment track on a phone or ipod.

 

We will  be auditioning for the following productions:

 

August 25th through September 2nd

The Musical World of Disney - volume 2

 

September 29th through October 14th

Deathtrap

 

December 1st through 9th

Yes Virginia, There is a Santa Claus

 

February 23rd through March 10th

Crimes of the Heart

 

April 27th through May 12th

Little Women the musical

 

We will have a couple of additional productions in late May and June we

Will also be looking to cast.
