TIM Comedy Theater Closed Due to COVID-19

Starting today, Friday, March 13th, we canceling all shows at Tucson Improv Movement. We didn't make this decision lightly and want to be apart of the solution in slowing the spread of COVID-19. We don't know what the future of this pandemic will look like and want to do all we can to keep our community safe.

Our shows will be canceled through March 25th, and we will make a determination about future operations on that day. We are also canceling all classes and rehearsals, an email will be going out in the next day to our comedy school students with more details.

We love Tucson and all of you! Please continue to love and support each other. Be kind, and we hope to be laughing again with you soon!

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Barrio Stories Nogales is postponed until further notice. This decision was made after careful consideration and multiple discussions among the event organizers and the members of the Nogales resident steering committee.

 

Borderlands Theater and its ensemble were very much looking forward to sharing our work with you but this is not the time. We understand the necessity of physical distancing and social solidarity in doing our part to keep our most vulnerable community members safe. Barrio Stories Nogales is about community engagement and it's not possible to engage in the way we would like at this time. We will remount the event at a later time.

 

Thankfully we were able to pay ensemble members for the work they have done up to this point, but there will be a loss of income. Please consider donating to local artists, organizations, and vendors. Your financial support is greatly appreciated.

Subject: Unscrewed Theater This Weekend!

 

 

 

We're excited for another weekend of shows!

First, we need to address the microscopic elephant in the room.

 

We are committed to offering Tucson a safe, fun, and funny place to laugh the evening away. We will keep performing and scheduling shows, as long as you want to come. 

We know your safety is important to you, and it's important to us, too. You can trust that we are taking every precaution to make sure your visit to our Theater is 150% positive in every aspect. We'll continue to be stewards of good health, disinfecting surfaces, avoiding public areas while feeling sick and more, as outlined by the CDC - & ask that you do the same.

Please know that we are watching the Pima County Health Department website and are ready to make adjustments as needed.

In the meantime, we'll continue to laugh and hope you'll be laughing right along with (or at!) us. We certainly are living in interesting times. 

And, yes, we've got LOTS of hand soap and paper towels  – just waiting for you.

NEWS: Old Pueblo Playwrights Cancels 29th Annual New Play Festival

TUCSON, ARIZ.—Mar. 11, 2020—Old Pueblo Playwrights regrets to announce it will postpone its 29th Annual New Play Festival in the face of concerns about the coronavirus and large public gatherings. The OPP Festival was scheduled to present a diverse array of short and long, serious and comic, never-before-produced plays the last weekend of March. The nonprofit has presented original thought-provoking literary theatre since 1990.

"St. Francis has been very understanding so please stay tuned (and healthy) for news of a new Festival date, hopefully sometime this summer."

A Tucson nonprofit, Old Pueblo Playwrights aims to inspire professional and aspiring writers of any age, race, religion, gender, ethnicity, or political persuasion to create new works for stage, film, radio, or TV. A grieving mother from New Jersey roams the hills of Lockerbie, Scotland, searching for her son, lost in the explosion of Pan Am 103. Her husband pursues her, helpless to assuage her grief. Meanwhile the Women of Lockerbie battle with bureaucracy in their efforts to perform a final act of grace, to launder and return the effects of the victims to their families. Inspired by a true story and written in the structure of a Greek tragedy, The Women of Lockerbie is a poetic drama about the triumph of love over hate.​ A stunningly beautiful story of grief, hope, and redemption. 

This staged reading will take place at St Francis in the Foothills Community Center 4625 E River Road, Tucson, near E River Rd and N Swan Ave. The excellent ensemble cast features Linda Andresano,  Jessica Armistead, Winding Road ensemble member Tony Caprile, Allison Dragony, Annie Koepf, Steve McKee, and Ensemble Emeritus Peg Peterson. Artistic director Maria Caprile narrates. The Women of Lockerbie is directed by Winding Road ensemble member China Young.

The Women of Lockerbie plays two nights only: Friday March 20th and Saturday March 21st at 7:30 pm. Tickets are only $15 for all audience members. Parking is free.

Arizona Repertory Theatre presents Shakespeare's comedy The Two Gentlemen of Verona

TUCSON, AZ – Arizona Repertory Theatre (ART) presents The Two Gentlemen of Verona, William Shakespeare's comedic tale about two best friends and their trials in love, March 16-29, 2020 in the Marroney Theatre (1025 N. Olive Rd, Tucson, AZ 85721).  

 

The Two Gentlemen of Verona, directed by University of Arizona Professor Brent Gibbs, is the story of best friends Valentine and Proteus as they embark on different paths in life only to run into each other again when they both fall in love with the same woman. The Two Gentlemen of Verona is one of Shakespeare's earliest plays, his first comedy and one of the most rarely performed plays in the canon. The play tackles themes that Shakespeare would spend the rest of his career wrestling with -- betrayal, disguise and love. Featuring Launce, one of Shakespeare's most beloved clowns, and his dog Crab, "the most scene-stealing non-speaking role in the canon," The Two Gentlemen of Verona provides an opportunity to see a master playwright just beginning to flex his genius.

 

"Love in all its forms are onstage in the Arizona Repertory Theatre's production of The Two Gentlemen of Verona. The play is, as Shakespeare himself wrote, a 'shallow story of deep love'" remarks Brent Gibbs, the director of this production. "In this tale he shows us how love can be both nurturing and neurotic and either healthy or damaging as he presents romantic love, fanatic love, obsessive love and platonic love. He shows the love between consenting adults, the love of a parent and a child, the love between two friends, and even the love between a clown and his dog. Love is not always pretty but in Shakespeare's hands it is always entertaining."

 

Ticket prices range from $15 to $32.  Discounts available for seniors, military, UA employee/alumni and groups of 10 or more.  Tickets can be purchased at tickets.arizona.edu or by calling the College of Fine Arts Box Office at (520) 621-1162 or in person at 1025 N. Olive Road.  Box office hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 12-4pm.  

 

The Two Gentlemen of Verona has a run time of 1 hour 45 minutes including one 15-minute intermission.  A pre-show discussion is scheduled on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at 12:45pm in the Harold Dixon Directing Studio (Drama Bldg. Rm 116). This discussion will be led by Director Brent Gibbs.  A post-show discussion with members of the cast is scheduled on Friday, March 27, 2020 following the performance.  The Two Gentlemen of Verona is sponsored by Greg Knopf.
