Act 1 Academy of Performing arts are pleased to Annouce our Musical Theatre summer camps!

 

Taught by Broadway Veteran and Professoinal Mentor Cheryl-Ann Rossi, And Gaslight Favorites Sarah Vanek and Todd Thompson (See below for more information on all of our awesome professional intructors!)

 

Act 1 Academy is a whole learning process based performance school. Our summer camps teach all aspects of musical theatre, acting, voice, dance and stagecraft culminating with a full scale production on the Gaslight Theatre stage.

LULLABY OF BROADWAY

 

Betty-Jo, a country bumpkin, goes to New York City to become an actress.  Through a series of mishaps and hilarity she bumbles and stumbles her way to success but not without help from her unlikely allies…Javo-Joe, who runs the local coffee shop, Big-Bob, the taxi driver and a man in a gorilla suit. This show is designed to accommodate several age groups and material from musicals such as:

You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, Les Miserables, Annie and more….

 

Session 1:June 11-22 Show on the The Gaslight Theater stage, June 23rd

Registration deadline May 15th

 

Session 2:July 9-20 Show on the The Gaslight Theater stage, July 21st

Ages 7-19 (age appropriate groups)           9AM-4PM             Cost $325

 

 

 

2 weeks, FULL Day 9AM-4PM:

All camps have a written curriculum designed to engage campers in multiple aspects of the performance world. Our structured hands-on, high energy, fun packed camps will build performance skills in a safe, professional setting.

Instructor Bio's

 

 

Cheryl Ann Rossi has been performing in musical theatre for over thirty years, having worked with such talents as Bob Fosse, Michael Bennett and Gus Giordano. Her vast performance experience includes work on Broadway as Maria Gonzalez in the Marvin Hamlisch / Howard Ashman musical Smile, playing the role of Mabel in the Broadway tour of Pirates of Penzance, well regarded radio voiceover work, and countless regional productions. Her directing and producing experience ranges from projects such as industrial videos to commercials and innumerable professional stage companies. Ms. Rossi employs an approach to the arts which involves encompassing all aspects of theatre. She has produced award winning, agency signed talent, who have gone on to many different arenas of the entertainment world. Through her experience and ideals, Cheryl Ann is determined to turn the tide in the entertainment industry, putting forth “artists with integrity.”

Sarah Vanek has been performing professionally for 25 years. She has worked extensively in theatre, film and television throughout the west coast. For the last 11 years, she has had the privilege to be a regular performer at the Gaslight Theatre, where she is also resident choreographer. Along with her extensive performance experience, Sarah has been teaching for roughly 10 years, developed a standing for audition and performance coaching in Tucson, and has had many students accepted by conservatories and collegiate programs across the country.

Todd Thompson is no stranger to the Performing Arts. He has been one Tucson’s Favorite Gaslight personalities for the last 8 years as well as performing extensively at The Arizona Broadway Theatre in Phoenix. He has a BA from ASU in Interdisciplinary Arts and Performance and has since taught numerous improv workshops in several schools throughout the Tucson area.  He has traveled internationally as a stuntman and played hero’s galore but his favorite adventure role to play is Dad to Tucker and Grace!

 

Erin Helm has heard the call of the stage for the past 17 years. As an army brat she had the opportunity to perform on stages across the nation, as well as abroad. She has been performing professionally for several years now (you can currently catch her on the Gaslight stage and touring with Lonely Street Productions) and although musical theater has always been her forte, she has been active in radio, TV and film as well.
