Celebrate
World Theatre Day

March 27, 2014

World Theatre Day has been celebrated
on March 27 since 1961, created by the International Theatre Institute (ITI),
an international non-governmental
organization founded in 1948 by
UNESCO and the international
theatre community.

Each year a World Theatre Day International Message is circulated through which a figure of world stature shares his or her reflections on the theme of Theatre and a Culture of Peace.

The Message of World Theatre Day 2014
is from South African playwright, designer,
director, and installation maker Brett Bailey!

Read the 2014 message here

Various national and international theatre
events are organized to mark the ocassion,
but many events are local with the purpose of drawing attention to theatre and
international harmony.

AACT and the International Amateur Theatre Association embrace and urge celebration of World Theatre Day. Watch the AACT Facebook page to see how other theatres celebrate and to share your World Theatre Day celebration.

AACT is the source for community theatre networking, resources, and support.
