New Month

New Improv!

September might not mean cool fall weather for Southern AZ, but it does mean a new calendar full of Unscrewed Theater events! Print, save, and put on the fridge!

We've got all kinds of shows, workshops, and learning opportunities for you -- all delivered online via Zoom. So you can join us from wherever you are.

Get your laughs in this weekend at our Unscrewed Theater House Party! All you need is the internet and a little app called Zoom.

This Saturday's show features very special guest Justin Lukasewicz! Justin is a long-time improviser and the founder of Tucson Improv Movement (TIM). He'll bring his energy and skills from his home to yours - all thanks to our virtual stage. Justin is joined by Unscrewed Theater improvisers Jon, David, Rob, Rosanne, Chris - & your host, Cy Barlow!!

Our family-friendly show is sure to start your weekend off with a smile.

Sunday 9/20 & 9/27

Celeste Pechous Workshops!

Celeste Pechous has been kicking the comedy improv tires for the last two decades.

As an alumna of the National Touring Company with Second City, Pechous performed comedy all over the world. She has trained and performed at the Second City, iO Chicago/LA, and The Annoyance.

You can currently find her playing Campbell on Showtime's critically acclaimed dark comedy Work in Progress.

Thanks to the power of wifi, she'll be joining the Unscrewed Virtual Training Center this September in FOUR special workshops.

The Initiation

Sunday, September 20, 10am

Register: https://www.unscrewedtheater.org/event/pechous-initiation-2020-09-20/

The first few lines of an improvised scene are the beginnings of a blueprint for said scene. Initiating can sometimes provoke anxiety. This concentration will work that initiation muscle and lessen those fears so you can be confident right out of the gate. We'll focus on removing all second-guessing of yourself when it comes to starting a scene by providing strong initiating choices, actions and dialogue.

A Taste of Long-form

Sunday, September 20, 2pm

Register: https://www.unscrewedtheater.org/event/pechous-longform-2020-09-20/

Dissect the long-form structure bit by bit, starting with the opening and moving into the game, tag outs, walk-ons, editing, callbacks, ensemble, grounded-scene work, environment/object heightening and of course the characters and relationships that drive the long-form forward. "The Montage" and "The Oak Tree" will be the centerpiece of this focus.

The Two-Person Monoscene

Sunday, September 27, 10am

Register: https://www.unscrewedtheater.org/event/pechous-monoscene-2020-09-27/

A ten-minute, two-person scene… make you a little nervous? Good. That means you're ready. Before you know it you'll easily be able to do a two-person 25 minute set. Detailed analyzation and notes after each scene. YOU can (and will) do it.

The Supporting Role

Sunday, September 27, 2pm

Register: https://www.unscrewedtheater.org/event/pechous-support-2020-09-27/

Support Roles are often undermined in their concrete ability to heighten and enhance a scene to it's full potential. This workshop will allow you to look at the scene from a whole new angle via different avenues of supporting what is already there by adding to the scene via entrances, exits, walk-ons, background and atmosphere. Find purpose, timing and voice in your supporting roles.

Friday 9/25

5 - 8pm
Scotty Watson Improv ShowShop

It's a a workshop!

It's a show!

It's a ShowShop!

Improviser Scotty Watson returns to our virtual training center for a workshop that's inspired by the work of Elaine May & Del Close.

You'll learn the four basics of improvisation:

  1. Make active & positive choices
  2. Support each other
  3. It's an actor's job to justify (work with what you have)
  4. Be seen & be heard

That SAME NIGHT, you show off your new skills in a live-streamed online show which will later be posted to Youtube. Check out the video from last class as they showcase their skills in a game of Freeze Tag!
