The Story of Allen Gus - ONE NIGHT ONLY @ Scoundrel & Scamp Theater

ONE NIGHT ONLY:

The Story of Allen Gus

Henry A. Childers

Join us for the Premiere staged reading of a new play by Tucson Poet and Musician Hank Childers who plays the older and younger man telling the story of Allen Gus.

Scoundrel & Scamp Theater, April 27, 7pm

Featuring the talents of Tucson Actors, Dennis O’Dell and Gabriella de Brequet with Director Howard Allen and the expert help of Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre’s expert staff.

The play is the story of would-be singer/songwriter Phil who met a remarkable song master in small town Aowi, Nebraska Iowa, decades ago.  Now an older man, Phil as Narrator takes the audience into and through the miraculous apprenticeship in music and in life he got from Allen Gus, who had returned home from WWII and never left.  Why?  The audience will be asked by the older Phil for some forgiveness for what did and did not happen between the mentor and his student.  How did they each survive love and loss in their personal lives? Phil jumps back and forth in time and shares 5 songs written about the journey.

Hank Childers is a singer/songwriter himself, a member of the Bright & Childers Band and the Dry River Band, active in the Tucson music scene.  He is also active in the Tucson poetry scene.  The play has been adapted from the to-be-published collection of poems, songs, and drawings.

Talkback and reception afterwards.  There is no charge for this show, but a donation to the Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre would be welcomed.
