At our last meeting, we talked about the fact that no member had reserved the first Monday Hybrid meeting for a play reading.  Since that time, nothing has changed.

The Scoundrel & Scamp's 24/7 Play Festival

The Scoundrel & Scamp’s 24/7 Play Festival is a celebration of the theatrical creative process!

 

On Friday night, August 16th, at 8:00 PM, seven playwrights will be given a common prompt for plays (a starting line, a prop, a situation) and the gender/age compositions of their assigned cast. Their coffee cups will be filled and they will be given the directive that they can leave the writing chambers only when handing over a completed 10-minute play — or the arrival of 4:00 AM, whichever comes first.

 

On Saturday morning, August 17th, starting at 7:30 AM, the other artists — 7 directors and 21 actors — arrive to discover their new scripts, roles, and assignments.

 

At noon, we’ll begin the tech process.

Performances will then take place at 7:00 and 9:00 PM! Both shows will include the seven plays.

At the conclusion of the festival, a mini-awards ceremony will be held to celebrate the audiences’ and artists’ favorites.

Members-Only Classes For Adult Students!

This summer, I introduced our new membership program for classes like strength, flexibility, and dance. 

I quickly realized that the original model did not meet the goal that I had for these classes, which was to allow people to train more often and be able to do more supplemental work like stretching and conditioning.

So, I went in and redesigned the program to be an unlimited model for the classes in this category. 

Membership allows members to attend classes on the Member's Only list, such as adult stretching, conditioning, dance, and choreography classes.

Welcome Rachel Walker!

Circus artist Rachel Walker is in residence with us this year! She is an excellent teacher who comes from a background as a Cirque du Soleil performer and training at École National de Cirque in Montreal.

She is teaching a few classes in the schedule including cloudswing and is also available for private lessons. Contact for more info!!!

 

Workshops

Rachel will be teaching workshops on Sept. 21st in Flexibility and Conditioning.

Each workshop will be 1.5 hours and $75 each or $130 for both.

Join us for casting call and be a part of one of Tucson's oldest Community Theater endeavors. Our theater program focuses on inclusion, allowing parts for all, and fostering community.

 

There are lots of ways to get involved, including acting, working on sets and props, costuming, carnival games, ushering, and front of house.

 

Chaos has been unleashed at Valley of the Moon! The Evil One has discovered a terrifying
source of magic and plans to use Zogog the Wizard to unlock its unspeakably destructive
power. Fortunately, a ray of hope emerges from the darkness⸺the warlock Adramel and
their demonic companion Skiraneth. But things get complicated when they're joined by a
demon hunter who sees them only as monsters. Can they set their differences aside to save
our world? Find out this Halloween season when you join them on their sorcerous
adventure! As you travel through Valley of the Moon, you'll meet hilarious and ghastly
characters, do battle with the forces of evil, and perhaps learn that you needn't fear the dark,
for darkness is as necessary to this world as light.

ATC youth auditions for Scrooge!

 

Arizona Theatre Company is seeking Young Female and Young Male Performers from Tucson and Phoenix to audition for our upcoming production of Scrooge!

SCROOGE!

Newly adapted from the Oscar nominated film Scrooge! comes a Christmas musical spectacular by Oscar-winning, Grammy-winning, and Tony-nominated composer Leslie Bricusse. Scrooge! is a ground-breaking adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. The story follows the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge as he goes on a fantastical journey through his life over the course of a single Christmas Eve night. In a new version created uniquely for ATC, Scrooge! is the perfect holiday fare for families and audiences of all ages.

We are looking for:

Four (4) young performers ages 10-14 from Tucson who can sing, act, and dance.  They will only perform in Tucson and the schedule is October 15 – November 30.  Rehearsals are scheduled Tuesday – Friday from 3:00 – 9:00pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00am – 6:00pm.  The Young Performers will not be called for ALL hours but must be available during these time periods.

Four (4) young performers ages 10-14 from Phoenix who can sing, act, and dance.  They will only perform in Phoenix and the schedule is December 4 – December 28.  There will be five rehearsals in Tucson between November 15 and December 1, dates/times TBA. 

Dates include:

• First Rehearsal Tucson – October 15, 2024 
• Opening in Tucson – November 8 
• Close in Tucson – November 30 
• TBA Rehearsals for Phoenix cast in Tucson  
• First Performance in Tempe/Phoenix – December 7 
• Close in Tempe/Phoenix – December 25

Pretendy Time Saturday! This is one of my silliest shows at the theater because we get to hang out with some of the coolest kids in Tucson. Pretendy Time is an improv show for families and one where we invite future comedians up on the stage to be a part of the improv magic. Kids say the darndest things, which leads to some of the most fun shows! So come on out and bring your little ones for the most fun family-friendly comedy show in town!

We have a ton of options for you to try out comedy, as we just released the fall semester of classes at the TIM Comedy School. You can start Improv 101 with Lindsay McEldowney on Tuesday, August 20th, or take it as a one-day intensive with Jessica Hill on Saturday, August 31st. Isaac Torres is a critically acclaimed comedy magician who keeps his audiences laughing from start to finish. Isaac's versatility and audience participation have been enjoyed at corporate events hosted by United Airways and Absolute Vodka, as well as at public shows at Tempe Improv and multiple Casinos across the country. 

 

Comedian David Membrila is a retired schoolteacher of 40 years, professional musician, comedy stage hypnotist, hypnotherapist, realtor, actor and author. In his own words, "I don't know what I want to be when I grow up." He has shared the stage with Judy Tenuta, Pablo Francisco, Chris Fonseca, Angel Salazar, Jill Kimmel, and many other nationally known headliners. David has been seen at comedy clubs and casinos in seven states and was a runner up on Ed McMahon's "The Next Big Star". "I'll look to perform anywhere. I LOVE the spotlight…in the middle of the night, If I open the fridge for a midnight snack and the light comes on, I'll easily do 20 minutes…"
