Stephen Sondheim's Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning musical SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE will be presented June 19th - 29th for six performances only. Arizona Onstage Productions, a multi-award winning music theater company (BARK!, ASSASSINS, A NEW BRAIN, ELEGIES), brings the story of George Seurat and his artistic vision as he creates the painting, Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, his most famous work, that changes lives, loves, and introduces the art world to "Neo-Impressionism."
Currently on Broadway at the Roundabout Theater, SUNDAY won raves for its recent London production.
Please a note to auditioners - this score is complicated, sophisticated, warm, funny and heart-wrenching, with much atonal harmony. Those who want to audition should be familiar with Sondheim, should be able to sight read notes, or be very savvy with difficult harmonies and abnormal time signatures in the score.
Unlike the original Tony-winning production, starring Bernadette Peters and Mandy Patinkin, this staging is more a chamber piece - never missing any emotion or theatrical effects. We see his canvas behind him as he sketches.
All characters except George are open... George will be played by Kit Runge. This is a show where it is fine to sing from the score for auditions...

The Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation is seeking a volunteer to serve as Stage Manager for our upcoming event, Moda Provocateur.� Moda Provocateur is an amazing show of fashion and style to be held on March 9th, 2008 at the University of Arizona Student Union ballroom.

This is a volunteer position and a wonderful opportunity to work with a crew that cares about the community and about the needs of people living with HIV/AIDS.� We need a no-nonsense person with experience� managing a variety of people in a fast-paced situation, to get them on and off the stage at the correct time and call cues for lighting and sound.

If you are interested in helping out, we would need you to attend a full rehearsal at La Encantada mall on Sunday, February 24th (that's this Sunday) from noon to 3pm, and possibly other meetings/rehearsals in the next 2 weeks.� The event itself will require your presence at the U of A student union ballroom from about 8AM til 8PM on Sunday, March 9th.� We do a tech rehearsal that morning/afternoon, followed by the show from 5 to 8pm.

Oscar to Appear at Fox
Fox Tucson Theatre announced today that the Nelson Riddle Oscar will appear at Oscar Night America, a fundraiser on Sunday, February 24th. The Oscar was loaned to Fox Theatre courtesy of the University of Arizona’s School of Music.
Nelson Riddle won the Oscar in 1974 for the score of “The Great Gatsby.” In1998, the University of Arizona received an endowment on behalf of the estate of the late Naomi Riddle, widow of the famed composer and arranger Nelson Riddle. It comprised the entire personal collection of Nelson Riddle's arrangements, as well as a great many items that pertained to his life-long career in music, including his Oscar and Grammy awards.
The Oscar will be available for photo opportunities at the event, which is to benefit the Fox Tucson Theatre Foundation.
“We are so excited to have an actual Oscar,” said Herb Stratford, Executive Director of Fox Tucson Theatre Foundation. “How many chances do you have to take a picture with an Oscar?”
The Fox Tucson Theatre will host Oscar Night America, a simulcast presentation of the 80th Annual Academy Awards Presentation on February 24th at 6:00 pm.
Fox Theatre’s Oscar Night will include a red carpet entrance, a photo opportunity with an actual Oscar, an official Oscar ballot to predict the results, cocktails, a silent auction, and the simulcast presentation of the Oscars on Fox Theatre’s 40 foot, high definition screen. The Fox Theatre’s event is a black-tie affair.

How Big is Your Network?

I have a confession to make. I've never been a huge fan of country music.
My grandmother, however, loved it ... especially the "old" country songs
about cowboys and horses, lost loves and broken hearts.
Then along came Faith Hill and Shania Twain and that's when everything
changed for me, because even though their music was still "country" (at
least to some people), it had enough pop to it, that I was able to enjoy
it, too.
Now that I divide my time between California and Montana, my taste for
country music is slowly growing, and I've since become a fan of Martina
McBride, LeAnn Rimes, Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw, Vince Gill, and Rascal
Flatts, just to name a few. So, when ABC aired the TV special "6 Degrees
of Martina McBride" last fall, I was curious enough to sit down and watch
the show. I've always loved the "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" Visa
Commercial, so I knew this would be an interesting project.
So what does this have to do with working in the entertainment industry?
EVERYTHING!
As The Industry Coach®, I am forever telling (or reminding) my clients
that in this business, or in any business for that matter, but especially
in the entertainment industry, "it's not what you know ... it's WHO you
know!" And the Martina McBride project is proof of how important the
concept of networking really is.
If you didn't see the show, the premise was this: if six aspiring country
singers, without any connections to Martina McBride, could actually find
her and meet her in person, using their own connections with up to six
other people, they would have the opportunity to win a recording contract
with Martina's record label, Sony BMG.
Believe it or not, all six of them succeeded at this task; they all met
Martina and one lucky woman really did win a recording contract. So who
was this woman and whom did she know? While I don't remember how her
chain-of-command went, I will tell you this: her first phone call was to a
man from whom she bought a pickup truck!
If she can do it, you can, too! And you can start by asking yourself these
questions:
1) What do I really want?
2) Who do I know who can help me get what I want?
3) What’s the first step I need to take?
The truth of the matter is this: We are all just 6 people away from
achieving our dreams. However, most of us don't take the time to sit down
and work through our address book, or we're afraid to ask for help,
because we feel like we have nothing to offer in return. Either way,
unless we're willing to change our behavior and become fearless in the
pursuit of our dreams, we will always be six degrees away from what we
truly want.

AWARD-WINNING ACTOR TO CONDUCT ACTOR’S WORKSHOP
Waypoint Theatre Company, southern Arizona’s premier faith-based live theatre organization, is pleased to announce an actor’s workshop to be led by award-winning actress, Lesley Abrams, on Sunday, March 2, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Catalina Foothills Presbyterian Church/room 406 in northwest Tucson.
The participatory workshop, “The 5-Step Approach to Creating a Believable Character”, will begin with a fun mixer, and focus on a series of improvisational techniques for creating a five-step personal approach to creating an onstage role, which include “Imagination” (what if…), Intuition (improv), Observation, Analysis of script, and Experience (drawing from the self).
Lesley Abrams is co-founder of the LaughingStock Comedy Company, which specializes in creating customized comedy for business audiences nationwide. Locally, she has appeared in productions of the Tucson premiere of Doubt, New House New Dog, Steel Magnolias, Noises Off, and Sister Ignatius. She won the Arizona Daily Star “Mac” award for her portrayal of the psychiatrist in Frozen. She is currently working on a one-woman show about the writer Dorothy Parker. She studied Second City Theatre in Chicago, as well as Northwestern University and received a Master’s in Theatre Studies from the University of Arizona. She has been teaching theatre and improvisation for over 20 years. Ms. Abrams currently serves as the Director of Children’s Ministry at Christ Presbyterian Church in Tucson.
There is a workshop fee of $10.00 payable to Waypoint Theatre Company. Due to space limitations, the workshop will be open to the first thirty (30) participants to register by mail (including a check or money order) through February 25, 2008.
