LA GALLINA DEGOLLADA

Written and Directed by Jen Winterbotham

Based off the short story by Horacio Quiroga

Synopsis: La gallina degollada is a short Spanish film exploring themes of child neglect and vanity. The film follows Hernando Morales and his struggle between his love for his three mentally challenged sons and his relationship with his wife, Irene. When it seems as if their marriage is faltering, Irene gives birth to their first daughter, Anastacia. As the years pass, Anastacia fulfills Irene’s image of what the perfect child should be.  As their sons fall into the care of an abusive maid, their lives take a turn for the worse.

Yadira (20-25): Supporting. A timid household maid. Must speak Spanish.

Raimunda (50-65): Supporting. A brute woman; household maid.

Anastacia (4-5): Spoiled but clever. Must speak Spanish.

**Guillermo, Luis, Alejandro: All three are mute and unresponsive, yet still convey innocence.

**For the roles of Guillermo, Luis, and Alejandro we are looking for Hispanic children ranges 2-12, since we will be seeing the boys at different stages in their lives. It is not necessary that the boys speak Spanish.
