Emotional 9/11 “Elevator” Stage Play brought back for three week run
In a rare move within the Tucson theatrical community, the recently performed play, “Elevator,” depicting six people trapped in the twin towers during 9/11, is being brought back for a three week run at the new Arid Rose Theater in downtown Tucson as a joint venture between The Red Barn Theater Company and Elevator Stage Play International. The play opens October 14th.
“Elevator” originally played for only a few days at the Proscenium Theater at Pima Community College Center for the Arts, but positive word of mouth and critically acclaim is allowing the play to return for a longer run and lower ticket prices to allow for a larger audience.
“Elevator” is a character study of six lives trapped in a World Trade Center elevator, driven by the astonishing facts of the elevator system in the twin towers and seen through an amalgam of what happened to the passenger elevators on the day of 9/11. The play begins a few minutes before the first plane hits the first tower and runs in real time for the one-hundred and two minutes until the tower collapses. The story explores layers of humanity in times of crisis as it moves forward--the victim’s situation continually disintegrating--until the final improbable understanding that their very existence is in jeopardy. This play, ultimately, examines the best of the American spirit and the inherent hope and compassion that resides in all of us.
