Tucson, Arizona--Pima Community College performing arts department is pleased to present the PCC Jazz Improv Combos in concert, under the direction of Mike Kuhn. The concert features two jazz combo groups; each with a rhythm section, several horns and a vocalist. Each group plays its own set of repertoire, drawn largely from the jazz masters and standards.
Program selections include Antonio Carlos Jobim's “Girl From Ipanema,” and the standards “Mack the Knife” and “At Last.” Vocals are featured in “You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You.” Instrumentals featured are “Oleo,” “Anthropology,” “Blue Monk,” “Billie's Bounce,” along with Django Reinhardt's original “Django's Castle” and Paul Desmond's sequel to “Take Five” send off— “Take Ten.”

The PCC Jazz Improv Combos are formed out of the weekly improvisation class. Besides this performance, several combos perform at a variety of additional venues. Each combo also has the opportunity to cut a demonstration CD recording of several music compositions at a professional recording studio.

In addition to instructing jazz ensemble and improvisation classes at PCC, Kuhn plays the jazz saxophone in a variety of venues around the greater Tucson area.
