A**hole, The Dog

"I know it can be hard for volunteers to see them crammed into tiny cages. You come here just wanting to help out but one of the first things you realize is there's no way to save them all."

LeeAnne is fresh out of prison and needs to log 200 hours of community service. The animal shelter should be an easy gig, but one aggressive, brutalized canine challenges her to overcome her own tragic background.

Straton Rushing is an Arizona playwright originally from Sonora, Texas. In 2022 he was the recipient of the Bela Kiralyfalvi Playwriting Award, the Hear Me Out Golden Ear Award, and he received an Honorable Mention from the William Faulkner Literary Competition. His works have been featured with Phoenix Theatre Company, Capital Repertory Theatre, Orpheus Theatre Company, SceneShop, and other companies around the US and internationally. Recent publications include pieces in the Silk Road Review, Apricity Magazine, Nine Cloud Journal, the Ponder Review and with Smith & Kraus. Straton holds degrees in Theatre and Philosophy from the University of Texas at Arlington. He is a recent graduate of the Arizona State MFA Dramatic Writing program. Straton is a proud member of the Dramatists Guild of America.

A**hole, The Dog is directed by Ensemble Member Gianbari Deebom and features Kat McIntosh (THE BIG MEAL) and Myani Watson (KEEPING ABREAST).
