Upcoming Auditions
The Santa Cruz Shoestring Players will hold open auditions for "Picasso at the Lapin Agile" by Steve Martin on January 26 and 27 at 6:30 PM at the Community Performance & Art Center, 1250 W. Continental Road, Green Valley, AZ 85622.
Director Mike Manolakes will be casting 7 male and 3 female adult roles. All roles are open; none are precast. Auditions will consist of readings from the script; no advance preparation is required.
Performances are April 9 through 12 and April 17 through 19.
The comedy by actor/comedian/musician Steve Martin tells the story of an evening in Paris in the year 1904, when Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein meet in a bar called the Lapin Agile. Though neither man is famous yet, it is apparent that their genius will transform the twentieth century. Before the evening ends, they are joined by a time-traveling rock and roll singer from the future, who will also influence the century.
No accents will be used on stage (except for the Visitor's southern American accent).
Character descriptions (all ages flexible, except for Picasso and Einstein, who should pass for their historical ages in 1904) can be found here:

Our performances of Picasso at the Lapin Agile will also include a Readers Theatre performance of I'm Herbert, by Robert Anderson. I'm Herbert will have a different cast each night, and auditions are open to anyone! Auditions will be held Wednesday, January 28 at 6:30 pm at the Community Performance and Art Center
No memorization necessary, but total familiarity with script when performed is expected, and rehearsals will be held.
PERFORMANCE DATES: April 9-12 and April 17-19
Cast: one older adult male and one older adult woman
"I'm Herbert" is a comedic, yet touching, one-act comedy sketch by Robert Anderson, part of his collection "You Know I Can't Hear You When the Water's Running," featuring two elderly people (Herbert & Muriel) on a porch discussing life, love, and their spouses with hilarious, sometimes poignant, misunderstandings.
